Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's been 4 minutes since the last bless. Did everyone add their benefits to their sheets for easy calculations? Call them temp modifiers or whatever, I made sure that nothing overlapped with existing benefits. In other words, they all stack.

First combat in a new adventure. Has everyone rolled for initiative yet? I see only Petra's. I'd have been better off if someone else rolled mine. Or not. Linguz, looking in your direction

It's called handwave it and just fight the parts that pertain to the PCs. All good DMs eventually adopt that.

I haven't read heroes of battle, but that book is supposed to be good for that kind of thing. But honestly, 3.5 is not made to replicate battles of thousands on each side.

Can you imagine 3.5 trying to replicate the battle of Thermopylae? AKA 300? AKA Gates of Fire? Yeah, roll dice for about a year, that is round one. Just do your best.

I found just combining an army into somewhat of a single host works ok for epic combats, or place soem rules into effect like "Pc's crit any foe 10 cr or lower" for quick and easy fights.
Or just introduce "Dramatic combat" Wherein a single attack can affect the whole battle ground. Example being Ixin at level 30:
Ixin steps towards his ancient foes calling on his own inner strength and conviction, his blade is surrounded by a golden light, which is both terrible and beautiful to the demons that surround him. With a single muttered prayer to the old gods and a swing, the light leaps forward, cleaving through a horde of demons, leaving nought but ashes in their wake. The paladin's blade radiance fades for a moment as he turns to face the surviving creatures, his eye's ablaze with divine strength.
"In his name" The Paladin utters, raising his blade and stepping forward again.

That for example would be; Ixin vs. Demon army, Ixin vastly overpowers the minor soilder's and this is a fantasy game, so when Halberd chooses to use Smite evil, it manifests in a very game changing way, that rather than just increases the damage, allows him to strike many more foes. Aiding more in an epic battle by mere strength. This also helps balance Martial characters to casters at higher levels, mainly epic where many martial characters are horrifically underpowered compared to casters.

Complete Warrior has things about Fantasy Warfare. Including stuff for a 'mercenary campaign'. And sporting combat too.

Hmm I guess you can just say 3,000 equals one colossal swarm creature CR whatever or something similar to that, that could work too.

I really like the dramatic combat for epic. I'll certainly will have to take a look at heroes of battle and complete warrior.

Complete Warrior's got more of individual assignments and how to run a war campaign where the PCs are a part of one army. Not necessarily PCs versus a massive armor.

But it could still help.

Really? Has it been a month already? It seems like it started just a couple weeks ago. Anyways, I hope we can make this last a lot longer. It's quite fun.
