I'll have the shopping occur in Hillsfar, it's a huge trading port across th Moonsea. It's a humans only city. If Kurt wants in on the trading IC, the trading can take part at Melavaunt.
Then there will be a short ship ride across the Moonsea, maybe hearing the ghosts of the sunken city. Then, the group will have traveled off camera, starting up with Shiny telling a grand tale in a tavern. And then the adventure will be off.

There is a big pseudo market that is even more distasteful outsider the city for Kurt and Shiny to have shopped. Unless Shiny and Kurt want to have disguised themselves as a child and a bearded lady! Since it is the prologue, no need for dice rolls, just RP it.

So right now our plan is to disguise Shiny and Kurt while we all go shopping, at the magic item store we fill up Mithril's spellbook and get random potions and scrolls, Miriam becomes the bearer of the almighty KUAS, and then we get our new weapons and armor, including Mithril giving Natalia another crossbow? Sounds good to me!

Kurt and Shiny could disguise themselves by having shiny stand on Kurt's shoulders. That way we could have the face continuing to be the face, and making up stories to explain his disproportionate body.

Is Natalia's description good? I don't like doing it all at once (that just reeks of bad fanfiction...), and supply it through action than, "Hi I'm Natalia Bolts and I've got raven black hair that streams out behind me in flowing locks and molten chocolate orbs..." Ugh. Gag.

I gave that an out by putting a bunch of merchants outside of the gates, which only makes sense. It is still a hub of business for them, they just have to conduct their business outside of the city.
That way the demihumans don't have to enter the city if they don't want to.

I liked it, and I think your idea for combat will help things run much more smoothly.
I have the feeling that even if you placed the inn in the city, it wouldn't help matters much. Kurt seems like the stubborn type and Shiny would just see it as a challenge.
I am going to be using Google Docs Spreadsheets for maps. I will have it set so anyone can access them and modify them to move their characters on the map in "real" time.
A wounded Natalia is fighting an Bandit inside of a tavern. On the top of the Initiative Natalia moves from L7 to L3 taking cover using the bar from A1 a bandit with a heavy crosbow, she shoots her hand crossbow at him 30ft across cover scoring a nice 6 damage I have moved her on the map and it now reflects this. If need be, we can describe the path taken. It should help us visualize things quite well. When anyone updates it it updates in real time, no separate maps to show what is going on.

If you say so. Took me about a minute to update it to your scenario. Really is pretty simple, just like using any other spreadsheet, except online.
