It has been one month since Shannon's life changed forever.
The temple had expected visitors, just not of this sort. Not at all.
She saw the horde approaching, and the girl stumbling just a tiny bit faster, enough to reach the building with minutes to spare. She had a nasty gash on her front side, and her eyes were beginning to mist over, but she had the lucidity to shove an object in Shannon's hand, telling her to bring it to the White Palace before giving a final shudder and laying still.
Shannon would have started concern herself with the whereabouts of this supposed White Palace. The problem was that the dead girl had risen to her feet.
When Shannon looked to the approaching horde, she noticed that they all looked ill. Their skin green and rotting, some sporting gashes, others with odd magical markings on their skin. She quickly rushed inside, barely avoiding the newly dead girl's glare as she bolted the door.
The head monk, after hearing Shannon's story, attempted to find the White Palace and complete the mission on his own, but soon found that the object- A staff, the make of which he had never seen- would not leave Shannon's grip, delivering a magical shock to anyone else who attempted to touch or take it. With no other options, the bishop put her on a horse and sent her North.
At first, she rode alone. But over the next month, she found others whose lives were also affected by the walking dead, who having heard her tale, opted to assist her in her quest for this mysterious place.
Their stop at a village for supplies has turned sour, however, when the horde of dead, likely following the aura of Shannon's Staff, attacks the village.

Colver's usually grumpy look only soured more when Shannon ordered him and Corvis to guard the broken wall. "Sure, send the Monk and the Mage with no armor to guard the wall with the zombies on the other side. Don't be surprised if I die." Even though he complained, he practically ran to the wall to take up a defensible position.
When Corvis arrived, he nodded and spoke to him.
"So, I never got around to asking you Corvis... why Wind magic?"
Well excuse me for following orders princess! Colver replied to Shannon. Alright, alright. Lets get these people out of here. Go ahead and start clearing out the houses. I'll take rear guard.

Tucking the Satchel into his trusty sack-o-holding, the mercenary hero gave a small sigh. Evacuating villagers, while a hero-ish thing to do, wasn't exactly what he'd expected when he'd joined that troubadour on her journey to White Palace - White Palace! Now that was a suitable quest destination. That he had absolutely no clue where it was was just icing on the cake; no epic adventure was complete without a little mystery, prophesy, or destiny, after all.
"Still, the timing of this undead cohort is rather unfortunate. Sharon, which way was it that we were headed again?"
He could almost sigh; it wasn't his fault that he couldn't remember the name of each and every supporting character! There were just... so many of them!
"Hey Toshi Brigade! You guys might want to start running. That wall isn't gonna last forever!" Colver cried. "Bring your wounded over here so I can do some healing."
Goal: Escape. Complete!

Shannon obviously had no idea where to go. This White Palace had remained elusive for the past month. She was about to say as much when the staff literally jumped into her hand and pointed.
Northwest? That's where they say most of this started. It only took so long to get to us because they had to go around the mountains. It was inevitable, really. In either case, this is where we part ways. There's a monastery about three days' journey from here. They could keep us safe for now.
You can't go on your own. I'll escort you; I know the area. Shannon... if we don't meet again, I'm probably getting picked out of a Zombie's teeth somewhere.

Colver looked out at the townsfolk gratefully handing the heroes their various trinkets and possessions.
"No love for the healer... of course." He muttered to himself. He sighed heavily then shouted to the crowd of people. "Alright, anybody injured still? If you are, come see me. We're going to take care of this zombie problem, no worries."
After hours of hiking, the group finds a forest before them. John hesitates to enter.
I've heard of this place. They say a great battle took place here centuries ago, and the ghosts of the fallen cursed the soil. The trees move to block your way and trap you inside.
Let's go around.
The Staff has other ideas, apparently. It points the way, directly through the forest, glowing like a lighthouse beacon. Something rustling in the brush nearby is outlined by the light, but before anyone can do anything...

Shannon's staff glows brighter still, bathing the newcomer in its purifying light. Smoke seems to be pouring from his wounds, as well as his eyes and ears. His skin becomes livid once more, and his eyes regain focus.
