Well that's not unarmed combat then is it?
I thought as a Knight of honour, you'd engage in fisticuffs as intended. Unarmoured and unarmed.... maybe Chaubrettan Knight Errants prefer to cheat?

Assassin fists and feet are recognised by the kings court as lethal weapons.
Of course, saying all this is just hypothesis. Barclyffe is just a man-at-arms. And even if he were an Assassin, I wouldn't play the Eastern-Martial Arts/Ninja aspect. I just wanted a roguish character that could sneak around a bit.
Of course, I might take the Throwing Spikes. They're generic enough to just be small throwing darts and not shuriken or shaken.
Sorry, you can't reach the window without some pretty serious climbing, as it's right over the drop, and the stair doesn't extend to there. You could edit your post to say you're listening at the door, perhaps? Up to you.
Well Guylan has certainly got arrogant covered, foolhardy not as much as it might seem. :)
Although I'm fairly sure at some point during the final battle there may be a mysterious burst of Dragonsbreath in Sir Guylans direction. :D
Not sure about that Dragonsbreath as it is too obvious. Maybe his sword arm suddenly weaken when in a dangerous fight? Or perhaps healing just failed to take place when Sir Guylan need one?
Anyone know of any house rules on climbing? The current one seems way too easy for anyone with a high Reflexes score. I was thinking a Reflexes roll, only using modifiers instead of the difficulty rating system.
Another thing I've been thinking about is how players should feel free to flavour their abilities how they like, though within reason. So for example, if Barclyffe were to learn the unarmed skill, instead of having Eastern-themed martial arts, he might refine the street brawling and dirty fighting techniques he learned on the streets. Charles might intone a prayer in LatinBachille (it would be the same one each time for each particular spell), while making certain religious hand gestures (again, the same one each time for each particular spell).
However, there would be one caveat. A properly trained Assassin would quickly realise that Barclyffe has somehow managed to develop effective martial arts, though they would seem quite unusual to her. Charles' method of casting would fool a layman if there were no visual effects, but they would seem a little strange to a trained clergyman who was watching closely, like the prayer was somehow too stiff and insincere. A Sorcerer or someone who has studied on the subject of sorcery extensively would recognise the precision and ritual of the spell as being sorcery.
Hope people like that idea. I prefer it when people can customise their characters so there isn't a party (or world) of identical clones.
Yep, Climbing is very simple. If your REF is higher than the DN required you don't even need to roll. Assassins are expert climbers.
RE: Character Development
Absolutely agree 100%. Not only is this a very good idea, I feel it is a vital part of the DragWars world, setting it apart from other games.
Good examples of variations from the vanilla - Thief v Assassin, Sorcerer v Inquisitor?
Brother Cedric is another good example of the Mystic v Monk.
Not all knights are 'Sirs'. Some are experienced mercenaries, rough and ready. Just compare Boudicca to Sir Guylan.

Possible to hide the hand gestures under the monk habit and robe?

If it were, it would make it look even stranger. In any event, no it's not possible. Note that, with the clergyman thing, if they only saw you do it once, you could plead tiredness or something. It's just weird looking, not a clear sign of sorcery to those who know little or nothing about the subject. They might get suspicious if they saw you doing it a lot.
The next post will definitely be another day again, my apologies. I'm currently writing an essay, and then after that I'll be doing the family thing until it's possible to collapse into bed, completely exhausted. Fortunately my weekend should be fairly quiet.

And don't worry to our 2 new knightly comrades, barclyffe well grow to like (well appreciate at least) you when all this witch malarky had been dealt with and you've been proven not to part of it.
