Ugh. I started out using second-person as most GMs on here seem to, but then it's not appropriate in certain circumstances. I take it nobody will object if I change to third-person for everything, so I don't need to keep switching?

Weird, my last post isn't showing up in subscriptions. Anyway, if you can post the relevant stat in spoilers whenever you make a roll, that would be great. Note that Grail is posting his attack skill whenever he makes an attack roll.

EDIT: OH, and if you're in melee with someone, you may as well put your defence in the spoiler.

I am so... not familiar with this system. I roll a d20? I think? Vs my 13 attack?
attack(1d20)[2]
and sword: (1d8)[7]

Wow... so if I have this right, I almost critted. Why does this remind me of second edition D&D?

it's pretty simple.

Subtract opponent's defence from your attack.
Roll equal or less on d20 to hit.
Weapons have a statblock like Sword (d8,4)
This means that it has an Armour Bypass Roll of d8, and does 4 health damage.
To bypass armour, roll the dX and you need to beat their AR from their armour, eg your Plate has an AR of 5. So you'd only bypass it with a sword on a roll of 6,7,8
When you reach 0 health your knocked out.
When you reach -3 you're dead.

Right, and as you noted, Ralasha, you almost critted. Rolling a 1 means that you automatically hit and bypass any armour, regardless of whether you should be able to hit or bypass according to the stats.

Well, I'll have to check their stats to see if you did. They're wearing plate armour.

Background Idea:

Charles's parents were freeman who were being killed during a bandit raid. He is adopted by the church and he got to know Cedric (Bonivant). His church was visited by the Bishop of Clyster who became his new mentor. Unknown to all three, the bishop is actually a sorcerer sanctioned by the church to exterminate other non church sorcerer since they cannot be controlled like the landed lords with their gospel. The bishop lied to him that he is studying the holy arts rather than arcane sorcery. Charles began as a trusting student and slowly has his own doubts when the training starts to result in more grey areas despite the brainwashing and scripture training.

When Charles finally completed the training, the bishop confirmed to him that he has been learning arcane arts all the while. Charles was devastated but the bishop assures him that their own soul is a small sacrifice to pay in order to save more souls in the process. Perhaps the Saviour will even see this part of their sacrifice and reward them with greater honour in heaven. Charles clung to this hope and tries his best to live a life of being the holy priest. He helps others as much as possible by healing and claiming it as a miracle by the Lord. He has a signet ring to identify him as an important member of the church which is to be above questioning by the inquisitors. However this ring is not a full proof method to prove his "innoncence" everytime since not everyone from the church might understand the significance of the ring.

He is going to Maiden’s vale under the bishop instruction to check if there are any sorcery activity.

It's a medieval society. I doubt they have Golden Retrievers and Australia Sheppards. It's probably pretty close to a wolf still.

Actually, a lot of the breeds of dog that exist now existed then. Though perhaps without most of the refinement. In example Hounds. Hounds existed then. Wolf Hounds being the most widely used variety due to the ferocity of a large portion of wildlife.

Ah, there's our new player. Note that there are a couple of changes I requested that haven't been put in. One is that the "using sorcerers against sorcerers" thing is actually from a secret splinter faction, and not mainstream Church policy. The other is that the signet ring is not proof against inquisitors, and at best allays suspicion temporarily. And angry villagers won't give him time to flash the ring before putting him on the pyre.

Yes, a healers most common problem is this: "He saved my daughters life! Hew's EVIL! KILL HIM!!!" Because, you know... that just how it works when you cast spells.

The problem is that with all the Church's ranting against magic, simple folk fear for their souls. Not much point having your daughter's life saved, only for her to die later and burn in hell for eternity.

No problem boss. Just take it that Charles THOUGHT that was the mainstream policy... Being duped AGAIN by his bishop mentor... @$#^#^^%&%

Though he does know that it is not a good thing to flaunt the power infront of villagers.

Retort: "It's not a lack of faith in god I have. It is a lack of faith in the church. Men are by nature corrupt, therefor any organization built by them are by nature corrupt."

Charles shakes his head sadly, "You are mistaken my lady, the church is the salt of the earth. How can salt itself be corrupted?"

*Takes out bible while Ralasha bleeds profusely*

"This is chapter one of the first book in the bible that expounds on the creation of man.... By the time we finish to the sixty-six books and the last verse in the last chapter, you will be able to see why man needs the church."

*More blood spurts out from the arteries*

"Here's to the church that preaches love and generosity, and yet refuses to give charitably, or heal those in need if they don't share their faith. even though through acts they would gain more followers." She lifts her hand, and flips him off. She then gets her dagger, and rams it in through her own eye as she spits on him.

I don't know what you're talking about.
>.>
<.<

For one thing, I didn't reference any religion. I referenced an organization.

That's like saying that telling people microsoft is evil is going to get the game killed, it's an organization. Or am I wrong, and microsoft is a religion? The Church is the same, it is an organization.

Barclyffe decides that he should help, so he quickly removes any heavy items that would weigh the bleeding knight down..... starting with the coin purse. "for what it's worth I think you're both a bit daft." :)

The bleeding knight swings her only remaining weapon at the assassin, her sword. And rolls a one on her attack roll, removing the assassin's head in a clea stroke, thought the monk is still out of range, and she is still flipping him trhe bird. "I hope my body freezes in this position and you and I both turn to stone so others can see."

Just waiting for Bonivant's move and we'll finish this round. We're using the 1 health point rule most of the time, and players have 24 hours plus whatever it takes me to get to the computer. If you don't post in that time, I'll make some attack on your behalf, depending on what seems appropriate, for example distant foes you'll use a ranged weapon, if you're in melee you'll strike them. You can also post a round in advance in the spoilers using ifs ("if the dog dies, I turn to the other one and cast Dragonbreath", or "if I kill the dog, I move to help Fred kill his opponent, otherwise I take another swing at mine"). You get the idea, and I'm sure we'll get into the swing of it.
