Quite true, but it looks awful if I make two squares solid red, and I don't have a tool that will let me shade them in lightly or put crosshatching on them. I miss Photoshop. I was thinking the two squares closer to our decoys, between the two tables, but as I said I welcome advice. I was never very good at being a tactical player. Love writing, not such a big fan of numbers.
Definately later. We're not all in a good position to attack. Once we've started fighting and are all already making attacks it can be used to best effect.
Makes sense, thanks. I'll wait for a good moment!
Neth would like to be hiding either underneath that giant table just to the side of the entrance, or if someone else would be better suited for that spot, then somewhere in the back in which case she doesn't care where. Owl of fire and doom perched up in the rafters by the door. Can he be possessing something borrowed from Arhlo? He likes to be useful. Perhaps a used bucket of hot cooking oil. Or if, while we were waiting, there wouldn't have been a way to keep it hot enough to damage anyone, perhaps just a bucket of cool water, in the event one of us catches fire?
TSM, did Neth have time during the day to prepare any more potions? And has she healed the real Daurily enough for her to fight as well?
edit: Is this helpful at all? Dragonsong, with your permission I will star a collection fund to reunite you with your missing photoshop.
For sake of ease and fairness (given the pwnage factor of the party) you guys will get a surprise round, followed by the drow, and then your turn again.
As for the Owl of Blackest Flame, either a bucket of water, alcohol, or even an Alchemist's fire or somesuch will do quite nicely.
Just as long as everyone who hasn't so far posts where they are on the map, they can feel free to post IC with their surprise-round actions.
Neth, I will talk to you about potions during the day. It will take a quick look through the crafting rules to tell you for sure, but I think at least one is okay.
Can't wait to see this battle go down! Expect more of a challenge this time 'round.
TSM.
PS: Again, a thousand thanks for the work on the map, guys. It's nice to know one's players are dedicated enough to pick up the slack when the DM's busy!
If I missed anything in this post I might be able to check again during work, if not after...
Hmm, since you want us hidden, then with Perelia's permission and assistance, I think I'll be pretending to be the chair in square A-5, courtesy of a Silent Image spell.
- Cheers, Key

That sounds fine by me. She can set up several Silent Images, actually. Any other thoughts or ideas?

An illusion of people defending the bar would be nice. Mix them about the bar, and they can take a few attacks until they whiff out of existence afterward. Sort of a complicated/simple Mirror Image, but it'll work.
This spell creates the visual illusion of an object, creature, or force, as visualized by you. The illusion does not create sound, smell, texture, or temperature. You can move the image within the limits of the size of the effect.
That should suffice for a few nasty looking thugs to be menacing them from near the bar. It'll only last a few rounds, but it'll be cool while it lasts.

You could also use it to pop up some chairs and tables mixed in with real ones. Have ranged players standing behind them. When melee goes to leap up on top of them... WHUMP.
Nothing special, but it might buy those in the back a round to act.
I've put some work into the map, and this is what I've got so far. If people would inform me as to where they'd like to be (only our deceivers in the middle have been placed, apart from the drow and the caltrops), I can add them. The red line is the caltrops, strung between the two tables. If people think this line should be moved, just let me know where. D and H stand for Daurily and Herlam, as they seem to be. P stands for Priestess, S for Soldier, and M for Mage.
The ultimate placement of the Drow is, of course, up to TSM. This is just an approximation based on the IC post.
Small note, nothing huge. Might move the mages away from the windows. They make a pretty easy target for someone on the outside. My post will be up shortly. I'm guessing the door is on the northern side? I guess I'm having a little trouble figuring out where the door is compared to the map. My post will be vague enough to allow for my lack of comprehension though, so we can determine that little bit whenever is easiest.
Everyone still here? I know we're ostensibly planning, but there hasn't been much posting in quite a while. It's got me a bit worried.
TSM, do you want me to keep working on the map, or are you taking over? I had assumed the latter, but I'm happy to keep going if it'll help. I'm ready to post IC as soon as we've got everything where it needs to be.

I'm here. I've given my comprehensive battle set-up plan, so I'm just waiting for the fireworks to begin.

Oh those are windows?? *thought it was the entrance*
Well now that you mention it, it seems quite obvious and I feel like a fool. I'll make sure TSM takes a look at this, and the whole Mage placement thing. Depending on the end result, I'll readjust where I've throw that smoke wall...

I'll make sure he answers you on that one too... So yes... stay tuned for actual answers.
*runs off, pesters DM*
edit: Okay, I've consulted TSM. I'm playing the messenger for him because his work has been busier than mine lately.
1. He also assumed the entrance was on the west side, because of how the drow were arranged and headed toward Perelia and Roen, even though, when I pointed it out to him, he saw why it was probably not meant as an entrance at all by the maker of the map. He'd like to continue as though it was, and leave that space on the north wall as a small window instead, if everyone's alright with that.
2. Yes, he said not to worry, he'll be taking on the map updates. Or asking me to help modify it for him. We both have programs on our computers that should make this quick.
3. The smoke wall of nausea has been shifted to leave its ends open at either side of the room. The drow are still of course able to pass forward through it into the middle of the room, but any who wish not to would be forced to shuffled out past either myself (and possibly Groban wherever he gets put) or Ryn and Doroga by the north wall. Updated map here: [drow fight map] We will also be shown the results of Perelia's glitterdust before the wall is created.
4. Not sure if everyone is placed where they want to be, but just make it known if you're not and that will be fixed immediately!
5. As soon as everyone's done their surprise attacks, TSM says he'll post our results and the retaliation of the drow.
6.

Fear not! Mine owl hath readied a dousing bucket, and I've an instant-water spell, lest our tendencies to burn everything get out of hand again.

I actually wanted to be where the green circle is on this handy, spiffy new updated map. That way I can get shot first.

Whoops, must have missed TSM telling us to post the surprise round, was waiting for that. I'll do that now.

Still here and very much dedicated to being your fun-loving DM!
But as Neth mentioned work and the related stress is getting out of hand last little bit... But fear not, I will indeed post as soon as I get the chance after your surprise actions are up.
Periods like this will not always be the norm, but the end of summer/beginning of fall is always nuts for us.
Thank you all for being so patient and sticking around.
One Love.
TSM.
(And just to clarify, Neth and I will take over map duty. Thousands of thanks to those who took the initiative to find some good ones and mod them!)
For our illustrious GM, I figured I'd toss of a few random map making tools with which you can easily save and stow for builds and the like when you don't want to draw them out manually!
This way, with a few clicks of a button, TSM can whip up a small building map with no more effort than changing the television channel!
I used to know of one that was good for small buildings/businesses, but that was awhile back. However, the one I pointed out as liking also has a number of random generators, including a magic shop generator, that is quite handy if you don't want to default to "Whatever you want to buy, go nuts!" sort of shopping.
For the record, I would gladly post surprise actions, but since Roen is posing as Herlam and doesn't want to give his real identity away (in case the Drow decide to go looking for the real one) I've been waiting for someone else to go first. I have a post ready, and I'll gladly put it up as soon as things have been put into motion.
TheDivineWind, I think TSM will really like those tools. Personally I like the idea of that magic shop generator, if I understand it correctly. It's amazing how something simple like that could make the adventure feel a lot more realistic. Not every shop in every village should have the same things!
Keylac, I put your character back where you meant it to be, and added the number-letter guide in case it might be of use. TSM and I actually were pointing at the screen debating which "A-5" square you meant.

So... who was right then?

Please note that the duplicated post in the dice thread was a mistake resulting from teh fact that the thread didn't seem to want to show me the finished post after I had posted it the first time. Thus, I posted a second, but when it's results came up I saw that the first one had in fact posted properly!
So we're going with the first one, as that's only fair. Either way, the attack misses Ryn.
Thanks Dragonsong, but it's already been established that initiative will work the way it did last major combat, with each side taking turns. For the sake of getting this particular combat underway quickly (because it took some time), I ruled that after your surprise round (already over) the drow would go (already did) and so now it is the party's turn once more, as stated in the end of the last IC post's OOC section.
So basically, initiative is a non-issue for this particular combat for the sake of expediency. The party can post in any order they please.
Hey guys! The forum was down for a few days, I know, but this game hasn't updated in almost half a month. What's going on with you all? Are we all still here?

Yeah, forum being down was weird. I figure TSM just got way too busy, needs to straighten stuff out. I'm still hanging around for when it comes back.
