You forgot that the woman was actually stabbed in the chest with said knife - and was wearing chainmail at the time, thus remaining unharmed (except for a small bruise).
Also, if i can take Combat Reflexes that are based of Charisma (because i have little to no need for Dexterity in my build and MAD can go and burn in hell), i'll go with an Attack-of-Opportunity Build and maybe throw in some tripping or other Combat Maneuvers.
For that purpose i will equip my Intelligent Sword with the ability to transform itself, so that i can get proper reach and still threaten nearby squares. It's not listed under Intelligent Items how that is supposed to work, but i figure taking the Transformative weapon quality (which incidentially costs precisely the same) and just letting the Item handle the transformation (since it is intelligent), thus not taking up a standard action, should work.
Now i just have to decide on the Combat Maneuvers i want to use, and live with an useless feat (Combat Expertise, yuck). I like Trip, but that doesn't work on flying or large foes.

I think that's a different story from mine - or a different variation.
Although it does bring to mind the time that a friend of my brother's was going to get cash from a cash machine - chainmail on under his jacket - and got knifed by someone. He turned around, looked the guy who did straight in the eye and yelled.
"That was a nice jacket!"
Needless to say, his attacker ran away screaming like a little girl about the 'immortal' he had tried to kill.
Next IC post is up.
And this is why four armed creatures can be so nasty....

Dirty Trick would be a nice combat maneuver, but it looks like you can't actually use it as part of an Attack of Opportunity (because clearly you have to do stuff like throwing sand or pulling down pants to hinder an enemy, god forbid you use a weapon for that).
Disarm and Sunder only work against foes with actual weapons, and i am not so sure how reliably Neverwere will have those.
Darn, looks like i'll just have to rely on standard damage for my Attacks of Opportunity.
Ouch.
Yeah, we better do that, she can't take another hit like that.
My next action will include using Beacon of Serenity on her to give her some temporary hitpoints. Other than that we don't really have any immedeately available healing though, as far as i know.
I will allow the use of Sunder against Neverwere limb-weapons.
And I don't think you do unless any of you bound wands into your devices using the stuff Serafina came up with. Although the Silvers might have some...

Well i get Lay on Hands in a few levels, but Standard-action heals are generally still not all that useful.
If they were, i DO have a Wand of Cure Light Wounds, and IIRC someone else had a Wand of Symbol of Healing (though that'd also heal the Neverwere, and we don't really want that i think - unless they are vulnerable to positive Energy, in which case we DO want it!)
Still, 11 Temporary hitpoints should bolster her enough that she won't die with another hit, and then we just clobber the Neverwere to death.

On positive energy hurting/healing, that would be a Knowledge (Planes) roll
And considering there's only this one and the one Chiskai's grappling left, unless you all roll horribly you should be more than capable of taking them out before they can act again.

Very well then. Sturmbringer hereby makes a Knowledge (Planes) roll, with +3 from Bardic Knowledge and +5 from its Intelligence (which is equal to my Charisma):
I wish I had the chance to get into some weapon handling classes. Sadly the closest I've heard of that around here is kendo (still somewhat interested) and I don't even know where that's at, probably doesn't help that this city has been a hotspot for gang activity. The most training I've gotten so far is a brief introduction to stances/grips with swords at the ren faire I volunteer at and some drilling with polearms at the same.
Not to mention most of my weaponry are of the kind sold to tourists. A daisho set, several daggers, fold out locking blade shuriken all in varying stages of sharpness. Weight aside probably the only viably usable weapons I've got are my eating knives for ren faire and perhaps my mugs for the same.

Don't forget the bread! Trenchers are lethal clubs in their own right!

Wait, so did the one Daina was fighting die somehow? Also, if I read that right, 3 of my attacks hit giving it a -12 to damage. I'm quite glad I went with that since even with a -12 to each attack it managed to hit her for 15 (with what looks to have been 2 attacks)... I'm rather worried to think what the damage modifier they have might be.
Also, on the topic of healing, Daina is the one with the symbol of healing wand in her device. I would however note that having not had the time to make a symbol prior to the battle that could be activated now, and due to the 10 minute casting time, it may not be the best choice to use.
I also could try using my healing belt to heal her, since it can heal others as well as the wear, but as mentioned, standard action healing isn't the best choice, and Daina is in combat.

On the round AFTER you succesfully initiate a Grapple, you can make ONE attack against your target if you succeed on a Grapple-check. That attack can be make with your unarmed strike, a light weapon, armor spikes or one natural weapon, and use your normal attack bonus and damage for the respective attack. Note that this attack hits AUTOMATICALLY, as it is a function of your grapple-check (so you already succeded on hitting)
You can also take some other actions, which are not relevant for now.
IF you have the Rake-ability, you can make TWO ADDITIONAL claw attacks when you attack during a grapple. As stated under the Eidolon-rules, these attacks are PRIMARY attacks, meaning that they don't take penalties and use your full strength modifier. They do not hit automatically and are normal attacks, requiring rolls etc.
You can also see that in a the monster-stats of those who have Rake. Otherwise Rake would be a somewhat pointless ability IMO, too.
So i'm afraid that Chisaki only gets her Bite and two Rake-attacks. That's still 34 damage while pinning down an enemy, hardly harmless.
Wait, so did the one Daina was fighting die somehow? Also, if I read that right, 3 of my attacks hit giving it a -12 to damage. Ah, sorry. Somehow I forgot about that one. It's still around.
And only two of your attacks hit - one turntable got dodged, the other hit perfectly. Neverwere have some rather nice bonuses to AC. Unfortunately - for them - almost all of them don't apply if they're flat-footed.
So that was two attacks hitting you, with a total of a -16 to damage.

There's some more interesting things. Any prospective crusaders may want to note the linked Paladin fix. For me though, the Fighter boasts some good potential to be exactly what I'm looking for to fill my role as a melee tank. Good saves, d12 HD, good armour are a given, but right from it's first level it gives a serious upgrade to Intimidate that allows it to be used very viably in combat to keep my opponents off my allies' collective backs. And it has a lot of skill points and access to knowledge skills. Nifty, right?
Signing off for the night.
Just in case the game moves faster than anticipated:
Cymorils next action will consist of using Beacon of Serenity on Makoto (Swift Action), then charging (or move-attacking if that is not possible) the next Neverwere, using Power Attack and Cornugon Smash.

Ah, I'd misread the part on which attacks hit. In that case the amount of damage being dealt seems much less threatening (even if still something to be concerned about).

Well, as that's myself signing off for the night, game will likely resume in a few days when Selinia posts. If we can get a via-phone post then that's great, but don't push yourself to do so.
And now that I have pictures for your next opponent(s), I can go sleep

Hey, guess what - I got a sort of jury-rigged power converter thing going here, so it looks like I won't be vanishing like I thought I would. Huzzah. Still will be scarce, but I can keep moving with a post a day at least. I just have to make sure I don't leave this thing plugged in too long.
My favorite paladin retooling remains the T. G. Oskar one, but I'm a big fan of his stuff in general.
Makoto is in fight or flight mode at this point, and she's mostly just lashing out at the thing that hit her with enough force to kill most large animals. That said, she seems to be doing that... pretty darn well. I somewhat intended her to flail around to minimal effect and generally make a moron of herself in her first combat... but Makoto apparently has other ideas.
Speaking of which, crit confirm: (1d20+8)[10]

Darn, damn birds woke me up - again. Thus, i am back - again.
Thanks for all the suggestions, but i think i'll stick with the Pathfinder-Paladin.
Mostly because i want to stick with Pathfinder-material where possible.
And the two suggested retools only really work if i take plenty of Paladin-levels or use a shield, neither of which i want.
Also, you are really risking an AoO when you may be low enough on hitpoints that one good hit knocks you into negative territory? When Snowfire is outright saying that we're facing something bigger very very soon? Yikes!

Hey! I never said it was going to be bigger!
And huzzah, we can keep going. Ok. I will have another post up when I get back from work this evening.

Well i'll certainly be disappointed if it's not a huge nasty evil creature from beyond
I dunno, tiny slip past your defences and into your cloths to kill you monsters from the beyond can be pretty terrifying themselves. Then again, considering these are magical girls the most common monsters in the genre that fit that description are tentacle monsters which borders on indecent if not going full past that, and I'd rather avoid entering that situation.

I just proposed a few defender feats for the Magical Girl.
Combat Reflexes that works of Constitution.
Increased threatened area and a way to stop enemy movement in it
Shields as part of your Costume, and Combat Expertise that benefits others
Demoralize against enemies that hurt your allies, and said enemies are then compelled to attack you.
So, Snowfire, will you allow (any of) these feats in our game?

Approved for this game.
Also, when you consider that the thing's you're currently fighting are Large size...
Do you really want me to throw around the next size up? With all the damage boni that entails.

Yay!
Is it okay if i swap out Cornugon Smash for Protective Reflexes right now? I know i've already used it, but considering that the enemy i have used it on has disintegrated anyway...
Technically it'd actually be better for me if i kept it for this fight, because i am somewhat unlikely to need plenty of AoOs and demoralizing a single large foe would be advantageos *shrug*
Also, i am curious what you have in stock. Oh, sure, i normally would not want such a thing, but considering all your teasing, my curiosity must be satisfied or it will go on a rampage and start eating libraries. And who would want that?
I'm trying to be a defender, but I won't be able to take that Stay Away From Them feat because I don't have Shrug it Off - Mistbreakers get a nifty feature instead that allows them to gain temp HP equal to their Motes every round. Perhaps I could still qualify?
So, no thoughts on that Fighter Fix? It seems good for a tank and I was considering taking a few levels if allowed.
I might be mistaken, but I think it's out turn again, right? Or is there an AoO in there...? Wait a second, Makoto is using a Lance, right? Which SHOULD mean reach, so no AoO unless the things reach is over 10 feet, but then if it's in melee range, so no 10 feet of charging, I don't think she'd be able to charge... Hang on, I'll read the post closely again...
Serafina, you may switch out those feats. And be patient gosh-darn it. Your doom shall arrive in time
Trace...I'll have a look again when I get home. We'll see. And yes, it is your turn. The Neverwere Makoto is attacking is dead via jump-charge. It's AoO will resolve in my next post - probably after you, Daina and Cymoril have all gone.
And the Neverwere used one of its abilities to extend its reach - for that round only - enough to stab Makoto. That ability is also part of the reason it did so much damage.

Darn, forgot that some Archetypes swap out Shrug it off. So i can honestly say that that wasn't the designers intention (okay, i knew that Kofo Shojo did, but that didn't strike me as a defender).
Thus:
Special: You can take this feat if you have any Archetype feature that replaces Shrug it Off.
Regarding that Fighter-fix:
Well you can already do a weaker version of that (enemy can't attack original target for a few rounds or until it attacks you) fixes threaten-ability via my feats (it's where i got the idea) - except mine works as an attack of opportunity, not a standard-action.
And Trained Reflexes won't be better than Defensive Reflexes unless you have quite a few levels in that class.
And you don't need all good saves if you gestalt with Magical Girl, since you already get everything-but-fortitude as good saves there.
Personally (and thats just me, feel free to take it!) that fix is too much at odds with other classes and too blunt. Which i suppose is no surprise since it's part of a project that's supposed to radically alter the game by rewriting all core classes.
Threaten is basically perfect mind control (unless the creature doesn't want to attack at all or run away), and Cover is a perfect reactionary impenetrable defense. Foil Action can stop anything and everything, even actions where it makes zero logical sense. Improved cover provides cover to allies that stand in front of you, however that is supposed to work.
Can that class do anything you can't do in another, reasonable way? No.
You can still make enemies attack you, you can still provide protection to nearby allies. That class just does it in an absolute way.
Which doesn't mean i have an issue if you take this class, it's just not a class i'd personally like to play.
