Here is our OOC Thread for this Kingmaker Campaign. If you could all check in here to make sure that everyone is ready to kick this off, and please select for your character a color to be posting in. Things will be beginning with you all on your way to Oleg's trading post, and there will be an opportunity for some role playing as you get to know one another on the road towards your first adventure. Be sure to check in here for info and updates.
In case any of you are interested, Kit is rather skilled at making bows, so if anyone wants one crafted for them just toss enough gold to cover the cost my way.
I still cannot believe I got in.
Anyway, Rashka will use Dark Green.
My stat block is here.
BTW, Down Comforter, while I cannot spare the expense at this time, I'll probably ask for a bow somewhere down the line.
I for one am glad you got in. Your character's motivations are very in-tune with what I want to get out of this game, you see. Also, certainly adds to certain planned events later on...
As to bows, they require one too many hands for Tharas to use effectively, and he's never going to be halfway decent without Sneak Attack to fall back on anyways. Better to just shuriken from SA range or charge forwards, I think. As time goes on, Tharas will be making all sorts of poisons and useful alchemical goods, and for now I can supply Tanglefoot Bags or something like that.
Wooo! Thanks for picking me! Both of my usual colors have been taken, so my rather excitable little gnome will be speaking in Lime (the color of her hair). If only she could use a bow!
FYI I am flying out on a business trip tomorrow. I will still be able to post at least once a day, but if I disappear for a day or two, it is because I am on the other side of the country in a hotel with bad internet. I'm excited to play this out with you guys. I've heard great things about Kingmaker and have only played the very beginning. Looking forward to seeing what the module has in store!
Hmm... Many foresty colors have been taken. What's a poor Ranger to do? Perhaps a nice earthy Sienna will work?
I must admit I didn't think Talo was going to make the cut, and I need to spend some time familiarizing myself with the fellow-travelers. So well met to you all!
Edit: Stat Block.
Talo Clearbrook

Ok, sorry about disappearing like that folks. I had a little impromptu trip down to San Diego for Comic Con and just recently returned. Glad to see everyone has checked in, I'll be posting the IC thread presently.
Edit: IC Thread is up! Feel free to post an introduction and get to know your fellow travelers. You'll be reaching Oleg's by sunset, so assume you've got a few hours to do so and once everyone has had said their piece I'll just move things right along. Have fun! I can't wait to get things going.

Check the door means to listen at it, not put several rounds through it.

I'm going to wait until Sriseru, Moranica and Zuh1 each post at least once more before I have you all make your grand entry into Oleg's. In the mean time, I'm doing my best to cook up some tokens and maybe a map or too, and would appreciate it if you guys could settle on a marching order for now at least.
Just looking at the conversation so far it would seem to be Talo, Tharas, Kit, then Sprig. I'm assuming you'll be putting Rashka up front with talo and Renna somewhere between Tharas and Sprig.

It was surprisingly simple to do with Inkscape. I just took a snapshot of the hex grid in the Kingmaker AP using my PDF reader (Foxit) and then pasted it into Inkscape. From there, I used the straight line drawing tool to create and object the same size and shape as the unexplored hexes and just filled in white to show blank space.

Looks great. I might have to steal your idea of filling in the hex map if I run this with my RL group.
It's okay. He already stole the idea from me (with my blessing), so we might as well just make a chain of it. I never really understood the proposed method in the AP to begin with; why on earth provide doodling space and a place for a letter when there's an already-gridded professional map? Sure, theoretically players can explore a hex with something secret in it and not find it, but that's what paint is for.

Yeah, it was a little easier using Inkscape though than I initially tried with Paint. Can't thank you enough Daedalus, otherwise I was just going to be all lazy about it and not create any maps or anything. Then I saw how ambitious you were getting and I was like "Damn, better step up my game".

Eh. Paint actually wasn't too bad, regardless of how I described it. While my initial attempts with a laptop touch pad were painful at best, once I got a mouse on the problem and realized I'd be needing to touch it up afterwards regardless it really wasn't so bad. Plus, I don't have Inkscape. I guess it's free, so maybe I'll give your method a shot, but there's definitely something to be said for having the empty grid visible as well. It lets me represent squares visited but not explored with markings and vague doodlings, for one, and lets players more accurately judge areas. Still, it certainly sounded like Inkscape's straight-line selector is a lot better than freeform Paint uselessness. Might have to download that program and do some experimenting.

Good point on the blank hex grid there. Fortunately, Inkscape has a layering function, so I just put down the blank hex grid underneath it for now. I'll look for a tool or a function that will allow me to layer it over the filled map so that we could maybe remove the blank hexes and reveal the explored ones underneath.

Great. For the moment then I will consider that the marching order.

Unless anyone else has a pressing desire for more roleplaying and introductions, I was going to move us along towards Oleg's given this marching order. Any objections?

I'm happy to move into the trading post with the proposed marching order. And loving all this talk of maps, although almost all of it is over my head. That said, as someone playing a character with a rank in Knowledge (Geography) , I might keep my own, hand-drawn map. Now, I am terrible at drawing, but it might be fun!
I'm good. We'll have plenty of time to continue role-playing. I kid you not, I have been in Kingmaker games that died before we ever got into the Trading Post. I am always in favor of moving things along to keep the pace up.
Yeah, made a post about scouting IC but otherwise good to go. As a general rule Tharas will prefer heading in alone to take a look whenever we find somewhere that looks like someone or something might live there, owing to the fact that he's vastly sneakier than anyone else here (and paranoid, of course).
Also, on a different topic, somehow I doubt we'll be needing rations at least. With two Survival monkies in a lush region like the Greenbelt, finding food and water for six should require a minimum of effort. If nothing else, not needing to return to the post except to sell off excess loot and maybe check in on current events should significantly increase the speed at which we explore the region.

Great, I'll post something in the IC to indicate what exactly Tharas encounters, and give you all a chance to move things along.
Also on that note, I will be keeping track of encumbrance, food, supplies (including ammunition), and everything that goes along with wilderness campaigns haha. Plus, PbP allows for the continuity necessary for those kinds of things.
