Default What kind of Banana is this?

I am currently visiting my Home country of Burma for the summer. I am living at my extended family's home (we moved to US with me, a brother, a sister and parents in 2010) for lodging. I got a curiosity and wanted to share this photo of banana, which might be confusing for those who haven't seen bananas other than cavendish (we called Cavendish as Thee Mwae, meaning Sweet fruit in literal terms, in Burmese language).
Spoiler

So, what kind of Banana would you call it? It's same as cavendish but shorter and thicker.

I know which Kind you mean, and I like them a lot more than Cavendish, but I don't know their Name. After some googling, this pagecalls them Baby Bananas.

Is it just my phone that makes that photo look humongous?

Anyway, looks and sounds like a ladyfinger banana to me.

Am I childish, or did that make anyone else giggle?

Does look like a baby small off duty czechoslovakian police officer to me, don't know if that's the actual name or just a familiar term.

No it's actually bigger than baby banana and we called them Phee Gyan in Burmese language. It's not plantain since it's good enough to eat it raw.

I'd be careful around that banana if I was you. It looks dangerously similar to something I've seen before...

A plantain is just any starchy banana used in cooking, usually banana types that are more likely to be eaten cooked rather than raw. Most of the pictures of "true plantains" I can see just look like normal bananas.
I'm pretty sure what you have there is a ladyfinger banana, as seen here...

Here's two more snap shot of the banana for more clarification.
1. The scale between readers digest book and my hand.
2. Inside of the banana.
I think it is not Lady's fingers.

Clearly this rare subspecies of banana known as Terrablis Bananis. My old encyclopedia is a little water damaged, but I can just make some bits, "DO NOT INJES..." , "...RNING: MAY CAUSE SEVER..." and "...EXPLOSIVE DIAR...".

Or, you know, people could not post eye-bleedingly humongous photos, that could work too.
(it is nice to know that, though)

Nice to get the scale. Still looks like a lady finger to me *shrug*

Right you are! However, like "plantain", "ladyfinger" is a catch-all term that can refer to a variety of different cultivars.

Now although I am a monkey, I cannot claim to be a banana expert. However, I do have keen monkey vision. The "ladyfingers" in your photo have a rounded shape. The OP's photo shows a banana that has corners. So while both types are petite, the similarity ends there.

In other words, we see once again that size ain't everything.

It's easy to slip into.

Plus you gain natural camouflage when standing in front of enormous piles of bananas... so... that's handy... when you have to fight big tarantulas.

Or the Tally Man.

Or Harry Belafonte.
