[Dragon Warriors] No players needed (Free quickstart available)
Contact me via PM if you need me, as I'm unsubscribing from this thread.
We need a replacement Knight or Barbarian character in our Dragon Warriors game that is running currently. I'll take up to two players of those professions. Note that this is the first game I've run, so I'm still new. But the game is a few weeks old, so I have a little experience.
Dragon Warriors is a reasonably rules-light old-school game set in a fantasy setting very much like medieval Earth. If you're familiar with the setting of Legend, I've mostly de-Tolkienised it. There are no orcs, elves are otherworldly beings between the material world and somewhere else, and dwarfs are odd, never-seen beings living deep within mines who knock on the walls to warn miners of danger, or lure them into cave-ins and gas deposits.
If you're not familiar with the setting, imagine that the superstitions of medieval peasants are true: Goblins are odd little creatures who spoil milk and steal babies, and strange spirits lure men to their deaths in the swamps. Getting caught using magic is a good way to get burnt at the stake, as the dominant religion in the area views it as a sign of possession or collusion with the evil one.
You can find everything you need to make your character below in the OOC thread. Please stay out of the OOC thread until I've accepted you into the game. Post any questions and your rolls here, as well as your character sheet while you're working on it. Here is the 16:
Spoiler
1. What game system are you running (D&D, Call of Cthulu, Palladium, GURPS, etc.), and if applicable what edition (Original, Classic, Revised, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 10th, etc.)? Dragon Warriors
2. What 'type' or variant of game will it be (i.e. "Shadow Chasers" or "Agents of Psi" for d20 Modern)? What is the setting for the game (eg. historic period, published or homebrewed campaign setting, alternate reality, modern world, etc.)? Standard rules and setting, except for a few setting changes.
3. How many Players are you looking for? Will you be taking alternates, and if so, how many? Up to 2 players.
4. What's the gaming medium (OOTS, chat, e-mail etc.)? PbP on these boards.
5. What is the characters' starting status (i.e. experience level)? 1st level.
6. How much gold or other starting funds will the characters begin with? Standard for your profession.
7. Are there any particular character classes, professions, orders, etc. that you want... or do not want? What are your rules on 'prestige' and/or homebrewed classes? Knight or Barbarian.
8. What races, subraces, species, etc. are allowed for your game? Will you allow homebrewed races or species? 'Prestige' races or species? Human only, from anywhere in Ellesland.
9. By what method should Players generate their attributes/ability scores and Hit Points? Standard method for health points, see bottom of post for stats.
10. Does your game use alignment? What are your restrictions, if so? N/A, but if this were a D&D game, your character shouldn't fall into the "Evil" category.
11. Do you allow multi-classing, or have any particular rules in regards to it? N/A
12. Will you be doing all of the die rolling during the course of the game? Will die rolls be altered, or left to the honor system? If players can make die rolls, which ones do they make, how should they make the rolls, and how should they report them? Usual method, you will roll openly, I will pretend to roll and actually just take whatever number is most likely to kill you.
13. Are there any homebrewed or optional/variant rules that your Players should know about? If so, list and explain them, or provide relevant links to learn about these new rules. No, except the stat rolling.
14. Is a character background required? If so, how big? Are you looking for anything in particular (i.e. the backgrounds all ending up with the characters in the same city)? Yes, you should have a background of one to two paragraphs. You should have a reason to be out in the remote village of Maiden's Vale, just south of the Shriven Hills on the map in the rulebook/quickstart. Be prepared to convince the other characters, IC, why they should take you. This won't be difficult, of course, but just give it some thought.
15. Does your game involve a lot of hack & slash, puzzle solving, roleplaying, or a combination of the above? All of the above.
16. Are your Players restricted to particular rulebooks and supplements, or will you be allowing access to non-standard material? What sources can Players use for their characters? N/A, though no homebrew.
You have 19 dice to assign amongst your stats, with a maximum of 5d6b3 and a minimum of 3d6b3 per stat. After rolling, once only, you can move up to 2 stat points from any single stat except Looks, to any single stat including Looks. The character creation section in the OOC thread has 3d6 per stat, ignore that line until I update it.

The older man visibly stiffens, even though his worn metal armor restricts body language like this.
"What is there to say?" he whispered quietly, his back facing his apprentice.
"You...have no control. Your strokes are flawed. Your stance is wrong. When you swing your sword, you look like a fool. This I can accept."
Turning around, the master stares sadly at this apprentice.
"But you...you have killed Marick. I have saved you from incarceration. But I cannot teach you anymore."
"Master....please..."
"LEAVE. Leave now. Before I change my mind. Before I drag you before the executioner myself."
"But master, where do I go? I have nowhere I call home but with you, I -"
"Go to the Maiden's Vale. Start there. Start a new life, new adventures. Find a new master if you must."
"But you are the only master-"
"GODDAMMIT. LEAVE BEFORE I KILL YOU RIGHT NOW."
The apprentice winced, and quickly walked away, stealing glances at the crying old man. But who could blame the swordsmaster? His son has been killed by his apprentice is a friendly bout gone wrong. What else was there to do?
If you want a more conventional backstory, I can do that too.
Re: [Dragon Warriors] Replacement player needed (Free quickstart available)
Well, it doesn't really answer many questions, but it's unusual, and I like it for that. So I'll allow it. Have you played DW before, by the way?
So you just need to do your character sheet, and I have a way to work your character in very soon.
By the way, for anyone making a character, your character doesn't have to match their profession. For example, a Knight could be a commoner soldier who has survived a couple of battles and scrounged some patchwork plate armour, while a Barbarian could be a bar brawler who had enough money to buy some equipment and tends to lose his temper during fights. Anything that makes sense within the rules.
Re: [Dragon Warriors] Replacement player needed (Free quickstart available)
It's all fine, just keep in mind that it's not all going to match what is in my version of Legend. Also, a lot of it is from various other people's games, so isn't canon.
You could say it's broadly applicable, though.

Re: [Dragon Warriors] Replacement player needed (Free quickstart available)
We already have a Barbarian, so you're welcome to take either of the two professions. We just need more muscle in general.
PbP is the only way, I'm afraid. Not only have we already started in that medium, but I'm only available at odd times, never at fixed ones. And I don't get warning about that, either. Sorry about that.
Background: Baxter was the youngest of 4 brothers in a poor family. He was not wanted. His parents tried hard to feed all of his sons but they could not.
That problem become unbearable when Baxter was 10 and his father was fired from the farm for stealing bread.
They took the hard decision of selling one of his sons to rich merchant, known for his strange sexual tastes.
Baxter was young and no very clever but he knew it was a bad thing.
He escaped into the mountains the first chance he had and barely survived a month alone.
He reached a city (ooc: I dont find any good map of the zone) and lived there as a vagabond and a thug with other street kids.
His strong arms made more trouble for him that they resolved, but he had no place to go.
Years of fights for survival made his muscles big and strong, but those same years of poor food and illness had a price on his health.
[ooc: to be continued I'm falling asleep on my keyboard ]
Re: [Dragon Warriors] Replacement player needed (Free quickstart available)
Vesth, you've finished your character, so you're free to post it in the OOC thread where I can link to it. I've been trying to think about your character, but I'm afraid I just don't have enough to work with, as much as I like that background. So you'll need to do one of the following so you don't have to mar your pretty background: Post separately in the OOC thread with at least your appearance and nationality, or send me a PM with those and I'll introduce you, or with your first IC post, mention your appearance and accent. Specific hometown can come later.
The nations are on page 16 of the quickstart. Albion has similarities to post- and pre-Norman England, Thuland is similar to the parts of Britain under the Danelaw (i.e. Norsemen), Cornumbria is similar to Wales, Ireland and Cornwall, and Ereworn and Glissom are Scotland-like. Don't make the mistake of thinking they're identical, however, it's just a very rough approximation. Ignore the bit about "Dwarves", nobody knows if Dwarfs have any political or mercantile system.
Edit: Noticed that Korney is all but finished as well. Again, the specific hometown can come later, just need nationality. I'm guessing you're from Albion or Ereworn from the name.

Re: [Dragon Warriors] Replacement player needed (Free quickstart available)
I'm not at home right now, so I can't access the PDF at the moment. This is what I can offer though:
Spoiler
"No, wait, Master...!"

---
It was whispered behind his back that Rayk was born cursed; his mother died upon his birth, and he suffered under his abusive father, until 9 summers later, where his dad died when his house burnt down by accident. His only close relatives were slain by goblins, and it was only the kindness of an old swordsmaster who saved his life by taking him in, and training him along with his son for decade later, when an unfortunate bout ended with the son's death. Angry and upset, the swordsmaster cast him out, with only the words of promise for another life on his lips. With a memories of pain and a heavy heart, he set out to Maiden's Vale, to seek a life he never had.
Re: [Dragon Warriors] Replacement player needed (Free quickstart available)
What?
My rolls for Strength are 1,2,3 and 3. The three best are 2+3+3 = 8.
And, you said

So I moved 1 from Intelligence (14 -> 13), and moved it to Strenth (8 -> 9)
But I did forget to add the (2) roll to my looks. I'm more handsome than I make myself out to be
Albion it is, I guess. It would make sense that Rayk's master had a small piece of land of his own, and had hopes to pass it on to his now deseased son.
Appearance
Spoiler
Most of the time, Rayk is suited in plate armor, the dull grey sheen from constant care of the worn thing. His face is obscured by all helmet, with only a slit to see by; that suited him fine, for he did not want others to see his anguish.
The armor itself is relatively plain, and the only his sheild bares the symbol of the Weeping Rose, an feature he added himself.
His scabbard is rough and scratched, and the sword within is in slightly better shape. He had not the mood to clean it properly, after all, especially since it was the weapon that was once drenched in the blood of the son.
Beneath the armor, he is a stocky, well-muscled man, with a chiseled face complete with strong blue eyes and blond, tousled hair.
Re: [Dragon Warriors] Replacement player needed (Free quickstart available)
You're right, I had looked first at the odd rolling method you used, then at the 9 strength you had on your sheet without checking the others. My apologies for that.
See if you want to buy anything from the list I have there, and then post your sheet in the OOC thread so I can link to it in the OP.
Professional Skills:
Armour Expert (p26)
Ride Warhorse (p26)
Track (p63)
Armour: Plate and Maille ( AF 5)
Weapon: Footmans Flail ( 2-handed weapon) ( d6, 5)
Background: Born into a minor knights house to the north-west of Ongus Robert was eager to follow in his fathers footsteps and join the crusades, and not even a bout of palsy in his early teens was going to stop him, but an unfortunate and deadly encounter with a drunken priest saw him excommunicated and banished from the family manor.
He fled north with nothing but his jousting armour and a few scraps; he has no real idea what he will do with him self but he has so far resisted the temptation to become a robber-knight.
Parents' Class: Gentry
Language= Elleslandic ( fluent)
Character is not literate
Professional Skills:
Armour Expert (p26)
Ride Warhorse (p26)
Track (p63)
Background:
Sir Guylan looks every bit the knight-errant; his armour is polished to a high sheen and is formed in the latest Chaubrettan fashion. He composes poetry and sonnets as he eats wild strawberrys and expouses philosophy from beneath a shining mane of auburn locks.
He keeps his beard trimmed short, " as is the latest fashion at he Kings court", and his manners are impeccable....it is entirely a sham.
Sir Guylan is indeed a knight of Chaubrette and his family quite highly placed; he had sailed through life relying on his devastating looks and impressive skill with a blade. And both had served him well....but there are some things that one cannot get away with and impregnating both the bishops mistress and his daughter is one of those things.
If asked Sir Guylan is in Albion " To perform deeds of daring and grace so to be worthy of the hand of his betrothed back home" in truth there is a price on his head in Chaubrette that would tempt the most peaceful soul.
Re: [Dragon Warriors] Replacement player needed (Free quickstart available)
Sorry, but I want to see your rolls. I assume you rolled honestly from the fact that the stats are pretty average, but I don't want to set a precedent.
Characters are both fine, though. I did have a rule about only Elleslandic characters, but I like that second character, you obviously have played before, and Chaubrette is not that far removed from Ellesland.

Now, I want him to be better looking, so I can take up to two points from Psy, putting them into Looks. So at the end, his Psy is 10, while his Looks are 17.
Is that clear now?
