Finding Players (Recruitment)Look for players for chatroom, play-by-post, or even real-life games here. Threads will expire after 3 months, so be sure to move important information to your OOC thread.
So, the time has come yet again where I feel I could use an outlet for some spare time. The general premise is the people of the recruitment thread decide the game they want and I build everything based on these requests.
You want to fight some Inevitables? Cool
Wanna build a city somewhere in Pandemonium? I'll work on it.
See how this works?
The only stipulations I have is this starts low level and that everyone agrees on a power level.

Spoiler
1. What game system are you running (D&D, Call of Cthulu, Palladium, GURPS, etc.), and if applicable what edition (Original, Classic, Revised, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 10th, etc.)?
D&D 3.5
2. What 'type' or variant of game will it be (i.e. "Shadow Chasers" or "Agents of Psi" for d20 Modern)? What is the setting for the game (eg. historic period, published or homebrewed campaign setting, alternate reality, modern world, etc.)?
We could convert to pathfinder given enough interest.
3. How many Players are you looking for? Will you be taking alternates, and if so, how many?
4 no more, no less
4. What's the gaming medium (OOTS, chat, e-mail etc.)?
These forums
5. What is the characters' starting status (i.e. experience level)?
To be determined
6. How much gold or other starting funds will the characters begin with?
See #5
7. Are there any particular character classes, professions, orders, etc. that you want... or do not want? What are your rules on 'prestige' and/or homebrewed classes?
I'm very lenient about these things, just ask permission first.
8. What races, subraces, species, etc. are allowed for your game? Will you allow homebrewed races or species? 'Prestige' races or species?
See #7
9. By what method should Players generate their attributes/ability scores and Hit Points?
32 point buy
10. Does your game use alignment? What are your restrictions, if so?
Whatever, just know that stupid get you killed.
11. Do you allow multi-classing, or have any particular rules in regards to it?
Have at it, no penalties.
12. Will you be doing all of the die rolling during the course of the game? Will die rolls be altered, or left to the honor system? If players can make die rolls, which ones do they make, how should they make the rolls, and how should they report them?
Players will be making their own rolls, but I will take the reins from a player if they take too long.
13. Are there any homebrewed or optional/variant rules that your Players should know about? If so, list and explain them, or provide relevant links to learn about these new rules.
See #7
14. Is a character background required? If so, how big? Are you looking for anything in particular (i.e. the backgrounds all ending up with the characters in the same city)?
I want motivated characters, not Mary Sue's. Give me some goals and contacts. I will do my best to work everything in.
15. Does your game involve a lot of hack & slash, puzzle solving, roleplaying, or a combination of the above?
We'll see won't we?
16. Are your Players restricted to particular rulebooks and supplements, or will you be allowing access to non-standard material? What sources can Players use for their characters?
Re: Choose your own adventure! [3.5e, needs players]
I'm hoping to start at levels 1-4 but could be convinced to start as high as 6. I just really hate starting as high level characters since that can lead to some nasty surprises surfacing in mind game.
Re: Choose your own adventure! [3.5e, needs players]
If we started around level 3, it would be perfect for what I had in mind. Could I use the iron golem monster class from this list?
He would be the first intelligent iron golem, but he'd be a goofy one. He doesn't like flesh golems, though. They're ugly and big and mean and scary. He relates the same way to undead, so he'd likely be CG.

I wouldn't mind starting around 3rd either, playing a Balor with the intentions of redeeming himself, and setting up a homebase style thing, starting small but ending up with a giant castle.

Re: Choose your own adventure! [3.5e, needs players]
The monster classes are fine with the caveat that you only start with one slam attack and the second one comes once you have enough BAB for iterative attacks. I would also prefer a relatively serious game, so please lets avoid goofy characters.
Re: Choose your own adventure! [3.5e, needs players]
I can agree with being serious, as I am, I enjoy good RP, and I really want to play a game where we slowly build up a reputation, and a base, and all the perks it has.

Re: Choose your own adventure! [3.5e, needs players]
Alright. Just letting you know, though, that since it's his only natural attack (he doesn't have two), he gets 1.5x his STR modifier on that. Slightly disappointed on no goofy characters, but sure. I'll have his character sheet up in about 45-60 minutes.

Re: Choose your own adventure! [3.5e, needs players]
I'd prefer the upper edge of the level options, if that's alright, but I'll deal with that if it's lower.
Would dreamscarred press's Psionics Expanded line be okay? It's pathfinder, but transfers very easily to normal 3.5 - I don't need to do other things with pathfinder if it's a normal 3.5 game. ^_^
I can shove information around easily - the classes have previews (Here's Vitalist, here's Marksman for a couple random examples of that) and very handy handbooks (Like this aegis one!) apiece. I own the book itself and can also send info - just am checking to make sure it's okay before I do so.
(I'll also be sure to sum up information a lot more when I've picked something!)
I... um, I was going to say I'd play a melee sort, but as other people are suggesting they're going melee, I may instead aim towards a more castery type: maybe psion, or a vitalist to be a healer. Either way, uh, I'm mostly curious if this is okay before I come up with a concept ^_^
I tend towards good guys over bad guys, though.
Edit: If the response is 'I'll need you to be more specific', that's also totally understandable. Just am checking if it's on the table at all or not. :P

Re: Choose your own adventure! [3.5e, needs players]
I'd be up for joining as a player.
If we're having some sort of territory base building aspect I'd like to be someone who makes all of the wonderful monsters you have populating dungeons, either a dread necromancer or some sort of aberration maker (not sure how to do that classwise). It could be especially fun if we were in some sort of evil mage nation and working to take territory and forming it into a more heroic good-aligned location while still being creepy/looking evil (as teh party has two good aligned monsters already).
Re: Choose your own adventure! [3.5e, needs players]
It seems this moves forward a balor in an evil territory trying to be good and all sort of minions helping him.
While this sounds awesome it clearly points to a less serious game.
I'm IN for something starting arround level 2-3 but different concepts.
Concept 1) I would love to play a game where a group of modern day humans travel to a world of fantasy, either it is a real world-traveling or in the end they are just inside a matrix-style program.
Concept 2) I would like to play a game where a group of character shipwreck into an exotic island where magic works differently and there are dangers everywhere. Where we have to survive, search selter and in the end escape the island.
Edit: werid concept 3) A game where we start high level, something arround 15, but slowly LOSE levels. So we have to do something (escape, defeat the BBEG, save the world, whatever) before we reach lvl 0 and dissapear.
weird concept 3.5) A game where our players slowly turn into zombies and have to find a cure before they become mindless flesheaters.

Well, I don't have time to finish the character sheet, so I'll think up of concepts while I'm at work tomorrow. Will post more tomorrow/day after.

Excellent!
I like the idea of building a nation, or even just a city or castle-town. If so, I could either be a 'good monster' myself - likely a goblin or hobgoblin, or be a half-elf - and thus be the 'normal guy face', but with an emphasis on half-orcs and half-elves. Both can be neat - sometimes you don't really want a normal guy mucking up the monster game, othertimes it's helpful to have someone that can go chat with people.
I also am very fond of exploration style games - seeing new things! Interacting with odd people. Wanderlust is a fun thing in a character, after all.
In all cases, I'd like to aim more on the good scale, and would like to start as high as possible - statement was 'up to 6', so 6. I find that being more capable leads to better roleplay. Still, I'm totally cool with tweaking... any of this, really - if the rest would prefer an eviller group or lower level, I will deal.
Classwise, I'm leaning heavily towards being a vitalist and thus party healer. Possibly a focused healer, or possibly a healer-with-some-blasts. Depends on how things go - as a vitalist, however, I'd be able to heal my allies regardless of their spell/power resistance or immunities, so that would help
Edit: Oh, and I can take or leave pathfinder itself. Totally up to other players there, provided the dreamscarred press classes are alright. DSP is amazing.

Re: Choose your own adventure! [3.5e, needs players]
I'd be fine for either pathfinder or 3.5, but will likely be dumpster diving for classes that can actually make monsters other than undead, or possibly look through some homebrew going to it.
Re: Choose your own adventure! [3.5e, needs players]
Hmm, and a lean towards city building.
Swarmlord please. Purely for a desire to create a megalomaniac who ends up creating and rulling his/her own kingdom very efficiently. Fantasy setting preffered, moderate level of magic at a minimum purely due to the type of class..
Preference for 4th level or greater.
Should that idea be scrapped, then a Warlock variant is my aim.

Re: Choose your own adventure! [3.5e, needs players]
I'd like to apply to be a player.
I like the city building.
I definitely prefer more serious RP on my PbP games, silliness is for games that are in meatspace.
If possible I would like to try an evil game, I understand if that would be against the majority, so I'm fine being good/neutral too. But building a secret evil city of goblins (who have been oppressed by the prettier "humanoid" races) and eventually leading a revolt against the human lands sounds like a fun idea to me!!
I prefer pathfinder, but am fine with 3.5e.
Shipwrecked on exotic island with minimal starting equipment is cool idea too (but there are secretly folks that already live there of course).
My preferred starting level would be 4. But a few others have said 3, that's cool too.
As for my character, I think I'd stick to the basic classes, nothing complicated. I'm thinking of rogue/ninja/swashbuckler type of character, I'll probably multiclass. I do really enjoy playing races from the bestiary though (I stick to the "playable as characters" monsters, don't want to complicate things); right now I'm thinking kobold if we play evil, kitsune if we play good/neutral. (ooh, maybe a kenku beguiler..., I have many ideas)

Vote for city-building, world-changing, king-maker style game. I like what Tarquin has got there and I feel very envious of him.
I had a Arabian Nights style game going just till now and also two politically inclined games that take place in big cities, so I'd vote for a variation of the theme. King-maker Conqueror?
Either 3.5 or pathfinder. As our beloved DM, I also own almost all books published and internets, so anything is fine.
As far as game-roles go, my preferences either go the Warrior way or the Caster way. That doesn't mean I can't backstab or heal, just that less pleasure is there to be taken in such activities. I tend to err on the side of comic relief now and then, but I built two very strong, unusual and serious characters lately, so why not get the 3rd strike while I'm at it, right? I will often go human, but any race is cool if people opt for a monster game. Level is irrelevant to me. Level 1 through 6 are all expressions of the same character, rp-wise. If you got it right at level 1, you get it right at level 20.
My dark side craves a ruthless warrior type with adaptive styles, based off of the Jedi and the Eldar Aspect Warriors. Probably a Warblade from the Tome of Battle, minimalistic chances of multiclassing aside from vanilla base classes like Fighter or Barbarian. Race? Anything really, let's see what people come up with and I will pick accordingly and paint a personality/background with a race specific brush.
PS: If everyone can come up with a solid idea and easy references I could draw everyone's character, independently and together, for a neat game-tag.
PSS: Oh, Nyarlathotep, Ia Shub-Niggurath, buyetyen. A Great Old One is fine too.

Re: Choose your own adventure! [3.5e, needs players]
Is it too late to get in on this? My designs/desires were for a level 6 or below game and I could get behind town/kingdom/empire making easily, so both of what you said fits in with either of the characters I've been trying to find homes for (an unorthodox barbarian mercenary or a halfling ninja.)
I am not so sure about extraplanar at low levels, so I'd say, maybe mundane/political? Given the desire for monstrous races so far, it seems like it'd be best to have a combination of "clearing out an untamed but also unclaimed area" for the town/kingdom/whatever but also mix in some of the political aspects of actually running the place thereafter.
Kinda like Suikoden, one of my favorite game series. (Except 4. You can forget that exists)

Re: Choose your own adventure! [3.5e, needs players]
City building? Hmm, I don't really like extraplaner adventures.
Here some ideas.
Scarce resources: the place in underdeveloped and we have to start from scratch or we have to attack and steal other towns' materials.
Beacon of hope: We are a free good town in a land of evil and corruption, people keep coming to our town to help build it and live here, but the other town rulers are not happy about it.
Political fail: We were granted land and titles by the king but right when we are starting the town the king dies and the heir doesn't recognice our sovereignity.
Financial crisis: The country is near poverty when a group of adventurers arrives thowing gold everywhere. Everyone wants some. The group decides to fund a town so everybody can work there while they gat a nice base of operations. The thing escalates too quickly and now the adventurers are overwhelmed by the amount of people asking for a job at their doors. Adventurers need more gold!

Re: Choose your own adventure! [3.5e, needs players]
I like that Political Fail option, there.
But that might be hard to write a cohesive back story around that all of the PCs were knighted/rewarded by King Unlucky the Dying (at least if we were all in on the same adventure that the PCs 'won); and given the monster/good monster vibe from a number of applicants...
What I was thinking was a spin on this: there's a Kingdom with a fading monarch, and this has led to a number of their most outlying territories to fall into disrepair/dispute/chaos/high gas prices/etc. etc. Things are crappy in these areas; the king or queen's dying, no one, not even a corrupt official or warlord's going to help, but there are at least some riches or resources that make the place viable for a bunch of adventurers or semi-monsters to try to carve a nice home out of it.
Without knowing how much time before the current ruler dies, the PCs are all unified by a desire to have a home/start an empire of their own and move into one of these places, try to repair everything and eventually have to deal with either allying with, rebelling against, or placating whatever new sovereignty eventually shows up, wondering why the PCs put up a "Monster Town" Billboard or such.

Re: Choose your own adventure! [3.5e, needs players]
Never too late to join. We don't have a deadline and players will be chosen based on how well they mesh with the chosen game and the other characters as well as how often they post.
Re: Choose your own adventure! [3.5e, needs players]
I *prefer* 3.5, myself. Wouldn't it be easier for the guys who want to make monstrous races? (Regardless, even if I get outvoted, got no problems with PF either.)

Depends on the race. Advanced race guide has a lot of options related to a lot of monster races.
