I have ALWAYS been a proponent of hex based systems over square ones for game purposes. All game purposes, not just video games. There are just so many gameplay advantages to the idea.

It's a lot harder to wrap your head around the code involved though.

As a quick question: Does anybody here know how to set up a small local TF2 server? My brothers and I want to play some friendly private games, but none of us know how to, nor how to add perks and stuff.

EDIT: We know we have to press teh small cross near "Server", to add names, and some stuff. But neither one of us can access the other's "new" server.

You need either reasonably static IP without routers or firewalls blocking it, or have ports/exceptions open. If it's the later case, chances are you won't be able to do it yourself if you don't have at least some idea what you're doing.

Btw, maybe it's dumb question, but you read tutorial how to crate servers with console, load map and make it visible to other players? If not, I'd do that first...

So it depends on if you're in the same house or not. If you are, you SHOULD be able to see it under the lan tab.

If you're not, then it gets compex.(Fun fun)

You'll need to forward 27015, don't remember if it's TCP or UDP to the server. Look it up if you have to.

Start teh server in TF2, and in the console put "sv_lan 0"
Should be usable.

Thing you should know: Routers are *****, and may not forward, or might need to reboot and not tell you. After you forward the port, unplug it for ten seconds. This has been known to help, and can't hurt.

It's just a shame they messed up practically everything else about Civ 5. The new expansion (whose name I forget) is supposed to clean up some of the problems, particularly with respect to the insane AI, but I've not tried it so can't comment.

"And stuff on page 1" refers to non-hat stuff, like weapons. I'm trading away the Strange Ullapool on the first page, and perhaps the strange revolver on the last page. Might trade away my deus-ex weapons for games and a standard yellow-named equivalent.

But not my strange scattergun, grenade or rocket launcher, for instance.

Also, trade me a game that I might really want (The new X-Com, for example.), and I'd have no problem parting with even more items than usual (I'm sure my Big Kill's still worth a hefty chunk).

Also, anyone playing shootmania? I just got an invite to it a couple days ago, and am quite enjoying it. Speedball and Royale being my preferred modes, would play Elite but nary anyone play that mode publicly.

Starting to get the hang of Pyro's airblast, and Demo Sticky Spam.

I play Dustbowl level 2 on Blue and am pretty useless. So I go engineer, to at least speed up the team with a teleporter.

So I start setting up my stuff, and suddenly another guy goes engi. On Blue. Because Blue needs two engis on offensive that set up their stuff at the same spot.

Okay, my stuff gets blown up by uber Demo, and I think, let's go pyro, because now I don't have any stuff that would get lost. So I leave spawn, and at the other side of the map I see the other engi killing himself to change class. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.

I'm not complaining any more when I start as the only spy/sniper, and 30 seconds later there are 2 or 3 more. That's to expect. But engi?

I've had three on offense. It was a 32-person server, so it isn't as bad as it would be in a normal 12v12, but it's still terrible.
