Hello again. As the forums urge us to do, let's move all important information, mainly the rules and character sheets here. Something else we'd need to get out of the way before beginning is the exact character relationships so I can come up with a suitable beginning for the game.

Trenarios
Trenarios is a young man, just starting his adult life. He is always cheery, though it could be overcompensation. His mother, you see, was accused of high treason, a crime she hadn't committed, and she was sentenced to dead. The result was that he was raised an orphan. He pretty quickly learned to keep himself alive, as no one cared for him, and some even wanted him dead.
Even though he had no schooling whatsoever, he taught himself how to read, and (borrowing/stealing books) thus acquired more knowledge due time (including how to use different artifacts). He isn't exactly the brightest, but he certainly is eager to learn.

Nada is a smuggler of D'ni artifacts in the dark and ashen expanse of Meanas. While she knows that the things she peddles are old and valuable technology from an ancient civilization long gone, she does not realize that he D'ni weren't from this world. Nada can read a bit of D'ni and probably knows how to manipulate some of the artifacts that she finds and sells, though the purpose of most of them is not clear to her.
Nada has lived some more than 30 years on Meanas, having prospered about half of them. She has grown quite fond of her lifestyle, as it allows her to turn a pretty profit without having to resort to the back-breaking (and not to mention boring) work in the mines.

@gunnar
OK, so we're partners. Fine by me
How about we met like this:
Spoiler
We both happen to stumble upon the same artifact in an abandoned mine extension, deep down under Meanas' dusty expanse. We start to threaten each other in the most amiable manner, bickering about who gets to take the tasty treasure home. Maybe weapons were pulled, fists were raised, I'm not pointing any fingers.
Then some other scoundrels come along, probably having followed one of us to the artifact. Maybe one or even both of us have had our problems with them before... So we decide to team up, use some ingenious combination of brains and brawn to get rid of them and swipe the artifact. Good times.
We split up after we sell the gadget, both realizing afterwards that if we want to keep moving and scoring stuff, we'd probably better find someone else skilled enough to do it with. Someone who could - well, one day - be trusted to watch one's back. So not quite through accident we bump into each other again, grudgingly recognize our respective competence and decide to from now on go forth together and multiply... our profits.
The End.
Whaddaya think?

@Rakmakallan
Sooo, equipment. I think, aside from her weapons, Nada will need some adventuring gear (Lantern, rope, maps, munition, rations, water flask, the works). Maybe some small smoke bombs? These could come in handy...
And I'd really like her to have goggles - maybe a D'ni artifact that she kept? Maybe these show another part of the spectrum or some such... Or maybe, well... the goggles do nothing I wouldn't mind.

I like the whole story, except for that last part: The End... Maybe we could change that to 'and they lived this way ever after'
or something the like. (Even though we're partners you can still call me 'Kid' though xD, I still won't like it )
As for gear: Basic adventuring stuff: waterskin, bedroll, tent, rations, etc
Character specific: a ring that belonged to his mother, a sapphire encrusted in the middle. A black 'shirt' and pants, as to be able to blend into the night, and the same clothing in gray, for daylight.
I turn my back for a second and both threads become active
@Sunfall Smoke bombs are quite alright. About the goggles, you could go with something simple, like making ir and uv visible, essentially granting darkvision. However, in general, D'ni artifacts tend to be more bulky, if you recall from the games. Crystal viewers, telescopes, Sirrus's technology in Spire etc.
@gunnar I will create the IC thread and start posting by tomorrow. What you should expect, roughly, is viewpoint descriptions for each of the characters, especially if they are on different ages, kind of like what happened in the Zork games. It will be in a format like:
Character
Location
Description
for example: Trenarios Myst Island, Sunken Gears
As you ascend the slippery stone-hewn steps, you find yourself on a terrace overlooking the eastern side of the island and surrounded by thick iron railing. Half-buried stone clockwork gears lie here as if pried from some brobdingnagian clocktower. Though obscured by mist, a rocketship is visible in the distance and in-between a steep hill crowned by a turret-like tower.
@historiasdeosos Crunch seems to be perfectly correct. An analogy for Practices and Talents would be Feats and Skill respectively. No, you don't. In the games it was generally assumed that "english" in some form or another served as a common language between many cultures, as it is spoken by most of the main characters (D'ni), Saavedro (Narayan), the inhabitants of Sirenia, and there is no indication in the journals that Atrus had any communication issues with natives of the Everdunes, the Tide, Stoneship and so on. Your progress marks in D'ni would correspond to the ancient form of the traditional D'ni language that is used to write Age Books and Linking Books.

Yeah, you're right... Though I thought more in lines of something that maybe Atrus would wear to work. And thanks, darkvision would really be nice

Just a reminder: Trenarios and Nada would have come out of that last scrape together, as per the backstory we agreed on (see above). We may be at that point where we separated to go our own ways but realized that working together might have its benefits after all. Hence probably Nada's offer of profitable nature from that night before...

Sorry, I had forgotten. I would have incorporated it better in the IC had I recalled. But yes, we shall make it that Nada helped him with his escape.

Ok, a few quick comments, seeing the game has begun. First, concerning updates. I will be able to post anything between once and five times every day, depending on my schedule. Secondly, about the posting format. Since we are still dealing with the intro, there is no problem with skipping ahead of areas and coming up with elements, but later on when puzzles begin coming into play, every last detail will matter, so unless you are sure what you are doing with the actions, you might need to keep it short and very specific. When in any kind of doubt just ask for more details.
@gunnar (and to everyone, but since you asked first). I thought it was self-evident that a roll will be called when you are attempting to do something. In the case of your last post, I feel like there should have been two rolls. One for the sneaking and maybe one for the spotting attempt in case there was someone trying to sneak. How this will be done? In general I will be making most of the rolls, as not knowing how well you rolled could be crucial later when a Knowledge check could reveal insta-win information. Returning to your post, I will make one Sneak check and one Awareness check. There is no need to worry terribly about announcing every check yourself, as most of the times I will be able to pinpoint the corresponding instances.

Response is up. Since we are dealing with puzzles now, any extensive questions, you could ask on the OOC thread.
About the rift in Gadar, I know I am pushing the limits of canon material, by having it appear right in the middle of an Age, without any cataclysmic vortex-like behaviour, but if you recall from Uru Live, the way the Star Fissure opens, its functions and nature are not exactly established, and I intend to explore these questions further in the future.

@historias The rain comes from the sky as normal. There is a small rift open covering a small portion of the dome, barely noticeable under the proper weather conditions. Rovan probably just got extremely lucky to have been there during an overcast day. If one were to hover from outside they would probably see the external part of the dome, since the rift is localised, but probably growing.
@gunnar11
1) [Awareness roll] To what you see, nothing has been touched recently. The whole structure is covered with a thick layer of dust and dirt, indicating it was buried for quite a long period of time.
2) None that you would know of. The writing does not seem like it belongs to a pictographic script anyway.
3) Nothing happens, the humming merely echoes around the site. [Play by ear practice is not applicable here]
4) [Symmetria practice] It would seem that each of the four cylinders could be connected to each other, and perhaps some even to some other chamber.
@Sunfall
Quote:
Just to clarify: The Gate's a stone slab with four cylinders just lined up on top of it like, say, soup cans for marksman practice? With levers sticking out of each one them? Do I have the right picture in my head?
So, some questions:
Which position are the levers in? E.g. straight up? Or leaning towards us? Or any other noteworthy position?
Are there visible gears or pipes leading away from them?
Is there a lock to be seen on the door's sides, where it fuses with the surrounding rock?
The picture is more or less correct, though the cylinders are of stone and much larger, like containment chambers of some sort. Each bears a lever that can be pulled downward, probably in a variety of intermediate positions. Each lever bears a two pronged head that would allow it to be pulled downwards, probably moving some chains or cogs in the process.
There are no visible gears or pipes, though judging by the thickness of the door, such a system could have easily been installed inside the rock.
There is no lock of any kind on the door, if it were to be moved somehow, it would need a mechanism to exert huge amounts of force from the side, as it appears that it could roll somehow.
Quote:
Nada can read D'ni: so what's written there?
[roll for Write Language: D'ni] On the main writing part of the text reads [...] where we once walked [...] there is always a way home. You notice, however, a small writing, on the side, in what would probably be the scribbles of a child. It reads: "It's all just gas" and signed "Sirrus".

For the record, I had written three versions of this puzzle with increasing difficulty. At first I intended to use the hardest one, but I'm not even sure it has a solution, so if you manage this version, I might recycle the difficult one for later use.

Remember that the one making the puzzles always knows the answer, so it's easier for you...
As for us: *My head hurts!*
And I don't get the system. I tried moving the levers in such a way that we would get a stream going from 1 to 4 to the wall, but I didn't anticipate it going back from 4 to 1...
Yeah, well I, too, was only partially right with my guess, so don't fret. And you're right about the goal. We have to bring it unobstructed from 1 to 4 and then into the wall.
But I think I've really got it now. I know how it works and where we must go (yeah, Rakmakallan helped ), so now it's just the matter of figuring out the right combination.
I'll post in the IC thread what I've got, and then we can both think about the solution, m'kay?
