My Little Pony: Friendship Was Magic
In Equestria, the monsters are kept in safe places, and can be beaten off with hugs and clothing and angry stares.
In Equestria, a benevolent goddess raises the sun and the moon, and keeps the world in harmony.
In Equestria, the concept of danger is barely understood.
This is not that Equestria.
The town of Bridle Shores lies near a lake, and is one of the cities that survived the revolution. The heroic Moon Goddess, and her student, overthrew the Burning Hate of the Iron Hoof, saving Equestria from the searing, unending summer that raged for years. Even now, she tries to hold against the monsters, the literal armies of feral species that attack.
This is not the Equestria you know. Friendship has power, love may yet triumph. But evil is not just a word. Go out into the woods today, and be sure to take an axe, or make sure you have that fireball spell on a hair-trigger. If you want to keep your life... you'd better work for it.

A: As dark as Exalted or a darkish d&d game, no more. The idea should be that things ARE fixable.
Q: What kind of RP is this?
A: More active than the non-grimdark. The added darkness makes actual adventure-style plots more viable. We could have wars against [unspecified villains], Celestial cults, and dungeoncrawling!
Q: Anything else?
A: Yes. Dark or no dark, keep within the board rules.

With our recent addition t'the group," he shot a glare at the ninja pegasus. "I don't know if we'll get much more outta our prisoner. There's gotta be some clue or somethin' we ain't lookin' at. Somethin' she said or did that'll lead us on th' right track-"

"Maybe she was directly leading us in the opposite direction. We could start by searching on the other side of town," Silverpine offered.

Something doesn't add up here. One doesn't, under the threat of a rather sadistic execution and when you have known allies that could otherwise bail you out, lead somepony on a red herring that would make them mad.
"There has to be a connection here," Staccata states in sort of a fragment of a thought. Wasn't there something in the news or rumors about this place. Either way, the mare follows Sandy back to the prisoner Vampony, her body language and expression stating that she made the mare that didn't want to kill her very mad.

"I can't believed I didn't see through her bullmanure about their lair's secrecy having had been compromised, she went and wasted our time!" Miss M growled stomping a hoof against the ground.
Meanwhile, the vampony mare was recovering, her body repairing itself, her ghoulish burntness looking a little better. She backed away when she saw Sandy and Staccata walk towards her. "G-get away!" She lowered her head and tried to feebly back away from them.

"He's gonna make armor that'll feasibly protect against pretty much every type of magic and a sword made out of shadow that can cut through armor. Then I'm gonna make some improvements so neither of them break."

The ninja fluttered next to the advancing Staccata and Sandy. In a soft but serious voice. she says "You do know what happens to a ninja who fails to protect his or her escort?"
About this time, all of the vamponies could have been able to recognize the strange scent about the ninja. It was a bodily odor that displayed her changing hormonal levels and metabolism shifts. It wasn't a pheromone from heat. It was something else.

Sandy briefly wondered what Staccata was talking about, before remembering that she seemed a much better liar than him. Nothing for it but to play along then. He made a show of readying his stake, this time not obviously going for the leg.

Its problem of having heightened senses when it came to being able to smell the blood in others, because there just always had to be the ones with weird blood that made them standout, and rarely was standing out a good thing. The vamponies could smell the strange blood, along with Sandy's ever present weird blood smell, but that was it.
Anyways, meadow took the opportunity to hide behind the ninja, fifteen feet away. Her body was still repairing itself from the severe burns and the poison in her body, so she was not in the condition to be all "vampy powers activate!" and run out of here with her super speed. She was rather mortal right now.
"I'm...n-not going to tell you guys anything!" She sputtered being obstinate, continuing to be uncooperative, relying on the obstacle that was the ninja.

Stellar helps out by gathering various materials and making (ludicrously complex) sketches of end products, while Horne makes several attempts at shaping shadowmass into a dagger-like shape and slashing at an armor stand.

Flippy waves a hoof as the pair departs, flying off in different directions. Oddly enough for such happy news, both of them seemed remarkably somber. Hopefully it would cheer Feathergrin up, though. He very much liked that land-brother. The mere thought cheered him immensely, and he dove back under.
He smiled and greeted his friends (hippocampi and water creatures alike) on his way back to his home. Most of his stash of magic items had been depleted and given to Snowstorm and Moonshine, but he didn't mind. It meant more room and more projects.
He laughed softly, the sound bouncing around everywhere and coming back in a lovely echoing tune that he always enjoyed. He could never get the hang of echolocation like his mother and cousins could, but he tried all the same.
However, his home was not as empty as he thought. When he swam in, the light brown unicorn caught more of his attention. However, hers was not an unwelcome visit.
"Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! Shore! Hello hi hay!" He swam in circles and nuzzled her happily in greeting. Past the filtering spell that covered her face, he could see her smile and hear her chuckle. He liked her chuckle, he thought to himself. It was much like his. The thought made his smile recede somewhat.
"Flippy, hello. I was wondering when you'd be back." Her high-class Canterlot tone boomed slightly through her spell, driving Flippy's limited echolocation crazy. However, he'd had some practice in making it less effective at that.
"Need me for something?" He asked, stopping his motions briefly...while upside down.
"Yes. I've been thinking some things over lately, and...I think I've come to a decision regarding your...last question. Or set of them, rather." She glanced away awkwardly, tone shifting to rather hesitant. Flippy, for his part, slid back to right-side-up (such as it was in this environment) and adopted a serious expression.
"Are you sure? Not everyplace is friend and more friend with not a danger and not a dark."
"I know. But...well..." She 'stood' in a proud position, head raising to emphasize her increased will in this matter. "I can't stay down here forever. You know that. I adore this place, my home, my friends, my family. But it's a big world. And I want to explore it."
"I understand, yes. Oh don't look surprised so. You aren't the only one here to have felt this way. Or to have acted on it. I don't blame you for wanting to see...all of it."
Golden Shore blinked. Twice. "I...well. I expected to have to do more negotiating."
"Hmm-hm-ha. No. Journies come and go and come again. You can't know unless you see, see? There...is something I want to say, though."
"Of course. Anything."
Flippy felt a twinge. Should he tell her? Did anything mean 'anything'? This may well be his last chance. He briefly reflected that the next time he saw Taylor, he'd hug him more tightly than normal. He could understand his choices now more acutely than ever.
"More than one thing. First...don't go unprepared. Take whatever you need from here. There isn't much now, but I don't make useless things, mm? Second, you know my family above, yes? Yes. If you see them, go with them. Tell them who you are, they can help. Will help. You can trust any of them with your gills."
"I...your...? Thank you." She glanced down at a small alcove nearby, where a small amount of light shone through even the magically lightless spot. "And I will see if I can find them. Crests know they can help with many things."
Another twinge, this one deeper into his heart. He should. But he shouldn't. This could be it. But she would be back. But perhaps not. But...
"Shore?" His anxiety was very audible, trembles running through his body and tongue, but even more obvious was guilt. She tilted her head and lowered her eyebrows, confused by this rare manner from him. "...I...Always remember...you...you have a home here. A...a family."
She hugged him. No casual greeting. This was understanding, hope, assurance. "I will. I will. And I will come back. I don't know when, but I'll return."
Such a strong mare, Flippy thought. Confident. She'll do well. Just like her mother.
Just like her father.

"And sometimes it is just right under our noses," Miss M sighed and then suddenly in four seconds appeared behind Meadow who 'waahed' in surprise. Miss M then bucked the other vampony in the back, sending her sliding to Staccata and Sandy, away past from the ninja guard.

Now dressed as Meadow she shifted her aside in a dart of her fast wings. With their places switched, the ninja shoved hher extra ninja uniform on Meadow.

Sandy raised his stake high and...watched as the 'vampony' tumbled to his hooves in an ungainly heap. Sheesh, how dumb did she think they were? "Yeah, yeah, cut th' act, y'ain't foolin' nopony." He poked at her foreleg with the stake, just enough to draw a bit of blood. She didn't move a muscle. "Huh." The engineer scratched his head with the dull end of the stake. "Guess havin' that stake in her kept her weaker than I thought."
All the while, his attention was off the "ninja".

Good gravy, time warping ninja shenanigans complete with the background having speed lines and the scene itself looking like funky edit still cuts. Gearstride, the two vamponies, and even Meadow herself to a certain extent were all completely derped as they watched this.
"That's it, I quit life," Said the undead Zephyr as he ran both forehooves down his face.

Sandy raised his stake high and...watched as the 'vampony' tumbled to his hooves in an ungainly heap. Sheesh, how dumb did she think they were? "Yeah, yeah, cut th' act, y'ain't foolin' nopony." He poked at her foreleg with the stake, just enough to draw a bit of blood. She didn't move a muscle. "Huh." The engineer scratched his head with the dull end of the stake. "Guess havin' that stake in her kept her weaker than I thought."
All the while, his attention was off the "ninja".
"I will admit, that was weird and an interesting trick, but," Miss M sighed-scoffed and shook her head. "Sigh, one cannot hide their vampony blood so easily, especially not with a costume change." She made the motion of sniffing and then looked at the 'ninja' trying to limp away from the scene.

Advancing ominously on the revealed disguised vampony, Staccata makes a show of not being fazed by the whole thing. "Nothing to hide behind any more, is there."

Sandy had a brief moment of confusion, looking between the downed "Meadow" and the ninja slinking away without another word, before it finally clicked for him. He galloped up to catch up with Staccata, stake once again at the ready. "Y'got anythin' t'say now?" he added. Wasn't quite as intimidating coming from a stallion looking to be about ten years younger than he was, but at least he was the one holding the stake.

Stellar helps out by gathering various materials and making (ludicrously complex) sketches of end products, while Horne makes several attempts at shaping shadowmass into a dagger-like shape and slashing at an armor stand.

Blades did her best to help out, although she was forced to leave the magical parts to her assistants. She'd worked late before, and her mind wasn't much more impaired by sleep deprivation than it was anyway.

The fire continued as there was no more input of the ponies working to snuff it all out, just that one spot. They needed to contain it before it got worse, right now it was still just within manageable levels.

Back at the Cirrus
The unicorn carried his lady love on his back, her fore legs draped over the sides of his neck as he scrambled about on the ground. He could risk using his super speed as he risked his lady love slipping off and getting hurt. It sucked having to run at a normal gallop. He tried to run around the back, but the security system's automatic turrets were shooting at him with extreme prejudiced. It took a lot to avoid the bullets and keep his darling from falling off and being a static target.
He then tried to dive into the forest only to find a missile locked on him as he feinted a moved to the side as it exploded in front of him. "Oh mah gosh...! What the fuq kind of bullmanure is this??" He scrambled picking up his lady love who slipped off. He was kinda in adrenaline panic mode, he couldn't quite concentrate right on his surroundings. He was barely with his heighten senses able to dodge a lot of projectiles. Damnit, he really should have had dinner earlier when he had the chance.
