One bad hair day and a thought to be the opposite, I became a scientist for halloween.

They were slightly less sweet, and slightly more earthy-tasting than the others.

Next year I am going to add dark purple and white carrots, if the seed supplier I use has them, with a few more orange varieties. Since they are my favourite vegetable, I am again going to devote an entire 4'x8' raised bed to them.

Carrots weren't always orange, they were mostly purple. We have the Dutch House of Orange to thank for the selective breeding and popularity of orange carrots.

I am quite aware of that. However, I have never had the fortune to consume carrots of other colours, so was merely curious as to the taste.

None of the non-orange carrots I've tried were wildly different in taste than the orange -- the differences are but subtle; and since they come from the garden, they are uniformly miles ahead in taste, sweetness, and tender crunch than whatever you find in a grocery store.
