Hi everyone,
i'm looking to recruite 4-6 people to help me playtest my Final Fantasy VII D20 Roleplaying Game. The link below is to the current version of the core rulebook:
The game will be a combination of hack&slash and puzzle-solving, and all characters are to begin at level 1 as i want to playtest it properly. players must submit their character sheets via Myth-weaver (use the Star Wars Saga Edition character sheet to make your character, however Force Points is substituted with Mako Points, and Magic Defence must be calculated in the notes box).
Also, i would like to know which era of the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII players would like to play in. Page 226 of the book provides a detailed description of each of the three eras.
Re: Final Fantasy VII d20 playtest 2 (Players needed)
Well, term is starting soon and I'm already in a few other games... but you know what, i like your style, Marc, I'm in. This time I'll make a non-Machine character.
If we're playing post-meteorfall, can Mex be a part of the campaign? Like as a little cameo NPC? Then again, she would suffer Cloud-like sickness at the time of AC so I guess she may be more important than that. Hmm... I guess asking for a solo game would be asking too much.
I think I'll make... a healer of some sort. That could be fun. Healers are always the centre of attention - a healer/face, even moreseo. Perhaps a Cetra.
Re: Final Fantasy VII d20 playtest 2 (Players needed)
I'm glad your back Trace . If the game is set post Meteorfall, i'll be happy to have Mex back as a NPC, but we will see what other players suggest on what era to play in first.

See, Marc? I told you I would get you a player, and I did. Aren't you glad you have me around?
Don't know crap about Dirge of Cerberus, but that's what makes it fun. I'd be down for whenever really. Put my vote in for 'undecided' as it stands. I can probably muster some sort of backstory without defining the exact time period, but it would probably help to wait that long.
Re: Want to give Rosso the Crimson a good thrashing? Here's your chance! (Players nee
Well, I've never read through this system before; but it seems like fun and I'm a quick learner. 'Sides, if Trace's characters tend to be as amusing as Knox I wanna see where this goes.
Re: Want to give Rosso the Crimson a good thrashing? Here's your chance! (Players nee
@Regalus: If you're going offensive caster, Mage is obviously pretty good as a class, especially with one ability I recall that can regenerate your mako points (which you only have so many in a level without using ethers) that you need to use your spells, but SOLDIER 3rd class is basically good at everything - sometimes even better at things the other classes should be able to do. I still think Sneak Attack should be available to Scout or Scoundrel rather than SOLDIER - they don't need to be stealthy, they have giant swords. Speaking of, don't worry, you can hurt Marc's feelings all you want - this is a playtest so criticism is welcome. Anyway, if you want a caster of any sort, just get something with spellcasting, remember to buy some blasting materia and you're golden. Just remember that true to the games, the more materia of the casting type you use, the worse your combat stats are. And I won't let you down opn the 'amusing-as-Knox' front of character design (hopefully)
Oh, and in case you didn't notice, LOOK MARC, I GOT YOU ANOTHER PLAYER!
Re: Want to give Rosso the Crimson a good thrashing? Here's your chance! (Players nee
Oh, here's something that may amuse you in particular, zeone. STORY TIME! My previous character in Marc's campaign (the first playtest) was BLUE7, also known as Mex Muramasa, a paralyzed girl whose father made a robot for her to control in place of her body until science could cure her. She was a big techiq, even if I kind of build her wrong for it (not getting knowledge (tech) or anything like that) . Zeone, you may recognise that repertoire of skills from Amon - BLUE was what inspired me to make another techie, AND another character with Cyborg parts in our Naruto d20 game. In other words, Blue here is Amon's parent character.

I am familiar with most FF, as well as FFVII but not very versed in the 'expanded universe' Meaning Dirge of Cerberus and Crisis Core.
From skimming through the book, I'm thinking of two possible character concepts:
1. This woman travels from town to town holding on to a half broken sword, her hood covering her Mako infused eyes, while her mind rattles with memories unknown. She seems to posses power beyond a mere human, which she only risks to use to protect the innocent and punish those who abuse their power. As for the turmoil inside her, she keeps it to herself.
(Remnant? Half Alien? Human? Something? with Scoundrel)
2. This red lioness is an odd one. She is quite old enough to leave the tribe, but since she find complete peace in Cosmo Canyon and has little interest in the world beyond, she hasn't left her tribe yet. Now that all her friends have left, she finally decides to give the outside world a chance... maybe there's something interesting for her in the world of the upright kind.
(Wolfion? with Scout)
Re: Want to give Rosso the Crimson a good thrashing? Here's your chance! (Players nee
Uhm Trace, the Scoundral is the sole owner of Sneak Attack in this system. So yeah, I finished reading through the whole book in record time for me.
As for time line I have none I favor over the other. Though it seems that the balance has shifted to focus on the Meteorfall Era by the looks of things.
Considering currently Cetra/Human Mage, or Human Scout. Really depends on what we end up doing. What are you planning on doing Trace? I know you said Cetra healer, but have you settled on a class yet?
Re: Want to give Rosso the Crimson a good thrashing? Here's your chance! (Players nee
Excellent, everyone has some really good ideas on what sort of character they will be playing. Thanks everyone for signing up. I think i can safely say that the Meteorfall era has won the vote.
@Trace: I took the Sneak Attack talent from SOLDIER and gave it to Scoundrel. Please make sure you have the most recent version of the book. Also, i don't know if you were joking or not but i am not ungrateful.
Re: Want to give Rosso the Crimson a good thrashing? Here's your chance! (Players nee
Yay, so you did fix that! I deliberately made such a big deal of it to see if you would tell me if you fixed it. You know what that means - I get to download the latest version of the rulebook now that I KNOW I'm out of date. All it took was semi-deliberately acting like a complete tool.
See there, Marc? I got you a whole 3 players in the space of, like, a day. Truly I am your saviour. Also i was joking.
@Regalus: No idea what class I'll pick up - probably Mage, maybe Scoundrel now that they got some love, depends on my mood. I'll think of osmething after I download the latest book.
Re: Want to give Rosso the Crimson a good thrashing? Here's your chance! (Players nee
Yay, I got the download to work. We could use some bookmarks in this book at some point, though maybe that's hard sicne you're constantly having to move things about.

Yeah, found that out the hard way. The Scoundrel just gets no love - lowest hit points, lowest skills trained, lowest BAB, almost no proficiencies. If I wasn't a robot in the last game, I'd have been killed pretty early on. But hey, I guess it was my fault i chose to play a Scoundrel - I think I took it's obvious weaknesses as a challenge
Re: Want to give Rosso the Crimson a good thrashing? Here's your chance! (Players nee
Oh, well then. In that case, YAY, scoundrels! Just tell me what tree it's under and I'll work it out.
I'm thinking of starting Noble, then straight Mage from there - a runaway aristrocrat girl whose cetra nature was recently revealed and who has now gone on the run, seeking a master or pure experience to teach her the use of her talents. Too cliche?

Wait, your girl is a Cetra in search of others of her kind in order to learn how to wield her new found powers...well, my narrative sense urges me to finalize my character as a Cetra Mage then for the sake of plot goodness. Assuming you don't mind my character possibly taking on the role of companion/mentor for yours Trace. I say possibly because well, in the end it'll depends on how their personalities end up meshing together after all. What do you think? If not then I guess I'll go human mage.
Hey Marc I got a question concerning ranged weapons. Seeing as their's no cost for ammo I'm assuming this means that, much like in the games, we are assumed to have as much ammo as we need unless plot says otherwise correct? Does this extend to Thrown weapons like kunai's and shurikens too; that is do my weapons return after I attack or I'm just assumed to possess as many of them as I'll ever need unless plot says otherwise?
Re: Want to give Rosso the Crimson a good thrashing? Here's your chance! (Players nee
Ooh, I rather like that - I love tying in my character to at least one other. Let's do that master-pupil or companion stuff then. I might start out without any materia in that case and find my first healing materia as part of the first adventure. Or something, I don't know, maybe we can assume you've been teaching me for a while, although since I'm a Noble, I'll have plenty of money to just buy whatever suits my fancy.
There are ammo costs. They're in there somewhere - I know because i had to keep track of my number of clips for my robo-gun arm in the last game. It was like 100 gil per clip or something, though I could be wrong - depends on the weapon. Ranged weapons were a pretty big deal in the last game - a Yuffie-shuriken, a handgun and a handgun-hand (machine characters are fun).

Ammo costs are in the weapons' description. also, Shurikens and kunais have a return ability that makes them automatically return to your hand after thrown.
@Trace: Sneak Attack is now part of the Revolutionary talent tree. it has no prerequistes.
