Finding Players (Recruitment)Look for players for chatroom, play-by-post, or even real-life games here. Threads will expire after 3 months, so be sure to move important information to your OOC thread.
Seeing as how we had some downtime, I'm going to extend the final submission deadline to Monday, October 8. I needed to check the player list so I could finalize my NPC factions anyways so I'm a bit behind now on where I thought I'd be. I'm going to start work on statting player sheets anyways, so if you need to make tweaks let me know sooner rather than later so I can correct your sheet.
I haven't been in the conversation for a while. What exactly do I need to change from what I already have?

That is not as difficult a list as you might think. Basically all current or near future tech no longer requires a 'theory' before you unlock it. Also we all have 6 free technology researches in addition to our 5 starting freebies. There was a lot of discussion regarding everything so I might not remember all the changes, but I believe that is the only real change that was made to the starting stats.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry too much about the starting tech (I'll help you tweak it if you're missing something I gave everyone) but each faction gets six new technologies in addition to the five freebies everyone received. The post is somewhere near the end of the second page if you want to find it.

Faction Backstory:
Spoiler
After the American government collapsed, the former United States and Canada were filled with various gangs and cults, all fighting against each other for food and territory. The Nordic Brotherhood was a neo-nazi group originating in the Pacific Northwest who saw the new anarchy as a perfect opportunity to kill the racially "impure" without having to worry about the government stopping them.
Spreading quickly, they overpowered all the weaker groups of survovors around them, allowing appropriately aryan people to peacefully joining them, capturing "inferior" whites to be the low end workers and slaves, while non-whites were hunted down like animals. The Nordic Brotherhood expanded rapidly, conquering a large swath of land, and becoming a true bastion of civilazation, with a small army and an infrastructure that, while weak, was somewhat stable.
Envisioning themselves as modern Vikings and even worshipping the old Norse gods, the Brotherhood pillaged and raided everyone around them, with nobody being able to resist their power. That was when the Marked began to attack.
The Nordic Brotherhood soon found that refugees from all over were running to them, rather than away. Cruel and xenophobic as they were, they were also the strongest base of human power around, and the only hope of surviving against the Marked was by joining the Brotherhood. At first, the Brotherhood tried to keep out the massive influx of refugees with violence, but when the Marked began to come in greater numbers, they realized that they would need every body available. Within a few years, there were almost nine thousand people under the Brotherhood.
Despite the growing and diverse population, the Brotherhood stayed to its nazi roots. Minorities were the lowest of the low in their society, given less food than others and having no laws to protect them, even from murder. Non-Aryan whites were only teated marginally better. A growing discontent spread through the Brotherhood's lower classes, and they rallied around a charismatic teenage girl named Yvonne, with jet black hair and bright green eyes who claimed to be able to talk to the gods.
With a movement of almost two thousand downtrodden supporters, Yvonne led an incredibly bloody coup against the Nordic Brotherhood's leadership with the help of sympathetic members of the fighting force, defeating them and publicly executing them. She claimed leadership and renamed the Nordic Brotherhood the Empire of Freya, after the goddess of fertility, symbolizing a new era of life and growth for her followers. All races were equal under her leadership, and women, who had been treated as second class at best and like sex slaves at worst, were elevated to the same level as males. Freya was an empire for all of humanity, not just a small part of it, she taught her followers.
As the Marked attacks grew worse, it became obvious to Yvonne that to stay where they were was to die, and thus ordered the long march to the North American spaceport. Many decided to stay, and their fate is unkown.
It was a long, arduous journey east. Anyone who could not fight or breed was left behind, and the pace wasn't slowed down for anyone. If you couldn't keep up, you were abandoned to your fate. The Marked attacked constantly, whittling down their people.
At long last, the Freyans reached the spaceport, having lost more than half their number on the journey, and began work on their Township, christened the Jormungand.
Faction Description:
Spoiler
The Freyans are a highly militaristic group, with fighting prowess being among the most prized of qualities, along with genetic superiority and loyalty to Empress Yvonne. She is the absolute ruler of her people, and runs a tight ship. There is a two strike justice system aboard the Jormungand, with the punishment for the first offense being a week in the brig, and the second being thrown out an airlock.
The Freyans believe that they are the future of mankind, and thus their survival takes precednce above the survival of any other faction. Alliances last only as long as Freya needs them to, and they are not afraid to take what they want from other humans or possible aliens who aren't willing to trade with them.
Faction Goals:
Spoiler
Ultimately, the Freyans' goal is to establish themselves as a force too powerful to be conquered. Whether they can achieve this through war or peacefully is for the future to tell. If they discover a habitable planet, they will try to rebuild the Empire on it, with the hope of one day returning to Earth to destroy the Marked and take the homeworld back.

Propulsion Room A:
Basic Nuclear Drive - 50 HP. Allows the ship to move 10m km a turn. Uses 400 Energy.
Starting Technology:
Spoiler
Basic Hydroponics: Allows access to Basic Hydroponic Farms. (see the starting template for stats)
Basic Construction: Allows access to Basic Cargo Bays and Basic Living Quarters. (see the starting template for stats)
Basic Life Support: Allows access to Basic Life Support facilities. (see the starting template for stats)
Basic Gravity Generator: Allows access to the Basic Gravity Generator. (see the starting template for stats)
Basic Shipbuilding: Allow access to Hull Space, Interior Space, Reactor Rooms, and Propulsion Rooms. (see the starting template for stats)
Basic Hull Plating: Allows access to Basic Hull Plating. Hull Plating serves as a very basic layer of material that keeps things from outside getting into the ship. It offers minimal armor protection, but all spacecraft require at least one layer of Hull Plating. Hull Plating technology is different from Armor tech. (see the starting template for stats)
Basic Command: Allows access to basic command facilities such as the Basic Bridge. (see the starting template for stats)
Basic Sensors: Allows access to Basic Sensors. (see the starting template for stats)
Basic Communications: Allows access to Basic Communications.
Basic Mining: Allows access to Basic Mining facilities. Additional research is required to create mining modules. A Basic Mining facility is built directly on the resource in question and mines 50 units of resources a turn. Mining technology may gather all four basic resources (Minerals, Organics, Volatiles, Radioactives).
Basic Commerce: Allows access to Basic Commerical Districts. A Basic Commerical District provides up to 500 credits per turn, 1 per population using the district. It can hold up to 500 population, and requires 50 energy.
Basic Factories: Allows access to basic factory facilities. Factories come in three flavors, general, specific, and production. A general factory reduces the Power needed for a Construction project by 10%. A specific factory reduces the Power needed by 25% as long as the factory falls under the same category as the Project. Production factories produce some sort of refined good or equipment, and are not covered by the tech of the item they are producing, rather than this tech. Non-production Factories require 500 population and use 100 Power.

Well, maybe I just missed it, but I don't see your additional 6 starting technologies. These are basically 6 technologies that you get for free, considering your faction, you may want to consider some kind of weapons.
I also noticed that under freebies you have "One addition unit of 500" I'm pretty sure that the additional units are only 250 personnel, even when we use an additional freebie for the better stats.

I think that's from something I misread and forgot to correct.

Well, the Technology part is fairly simple. Pick six things you would like to have the ability to construct, and write them down. You can also upgrade current things you have. So for instance you could research Projectile Weapons, and then get Autocannon Modules. That would take two researches, and let you build big guns on your township. Alternatively you could use your research to upgrade your engines, or your reactor, or, well really any of the things you have researched already. There really isn't a complete list of technologies (and this is intentional) so just kind of write down what you want, and then Nyna will tell you if that's acceptable or not.

That looks better, I'm sure Nyna will probably reign some of it in though. The space-fighter however is right out, since these are just research. You can't trade out 'research' for something like a functioning space-fighter.

@An Enemy Spy: Advanced Infantry Equipment is too broad. Armor for your units will require some kind of Armor tech (Basic Infantry Armor is the most obvious of these, though you can be creative here), and infantry weaponry needs to be specified (Basic Infantry Lasers? Railguns? You've got options).
Advanced Propulsion works. Unless you're looking for a new propulsion tech, this'll translate as Improved Nuclear Drive. Note that having an upgraded tech doesn't give you the upgraded facility/module by default, you have to spend one of your freebies on that (the one that gives you two facility/module upgrades).
Propaganda Machine works just fine. This will be called Basic Propaganda for the base version. Fancy tech names work better for upgrades. As a note, depending on what kind of Government tech you end up picking up down the line, it might give bonuses to this.
A Fighter is actually a culmination of several techs. You need some sort of vehicle weaponry (Basic Vehicle Lasers or something) at the very least, and I'd recommend having some kind of hangar too. Launching them from your cargo bay will take a very long time. All space vehicles require some kind of armor, though Hull Plating works in a pinch. Armor would be better for them though (or Shields), and researching Basic Armor applies to both vehicles and ships (you don't need a separate tech for defensive options between ships and vehicles).
Basic Espionage and Military Chain of Command are both fine, as mentioned in earlier posts.

Before we start, it has come to my attention that the spaceports will be in communication because of the pending threat. I was wondering if anyone would like to team up with my faction in hopes of better survival. Keep in mind that we'd have to figure out a reason, if viable, why we would work together (some of your factions might not like mine and vice versa).
I think that because with the starting engine it is very difficult to go somewhere farther away than the moon (it's 8 turns of flying through space to get to Mars) that there is going to be a great deal of cooperation among players in the early game.
With regard to my faction, cooperation with our European allies would be pursued as a matter of course. I plan to build a trading port on the Moon, for both technological and diplomatic contact.
Alrighty, spent the last four hours or so going over sheets. We're just about ready to get going, but here are my notes for each of you.
I won't be listing your vehicle/weapon stats here, just as a heads up.
Enemy Spy:
Spoiler
Tweaked Basic Infantry Energy Weapons to Basic Infantry Lasers. Basic Infantry Lasers, much like any other infantry or vehicle weapon tech, require a factory to produce (in this case a Basic Laser Factory). This production factory can support up to 250 population and produces 1 Laser weapon (infantry or vehicle sized, depending on what techs you have) per population unit inside.
Tweaked 250 energy rifles to 250 laser rifles.
If you want some other kind of energy style other than Lasers, let me know. Some of them are restricted though (I'll let you know if they are).
Military Chain of Command provides a 15% increase to FP. This gives you 14 FP. This functions as a Government type, though it can be combined with certain other Government styles. Faction wide FP multipliers do not stack.
Blindslayer1:
Spoiler
Donald MacGruder is missing a 4 from his stats, and has one too many 2s.
Lieutenant Maria Venucci is missing a 3 from her stats, and has one two many 2s.
Engineering is a very broad category. Can you narrow it down a bit more for the Engineering Research Lab? If you're looking for a general lab, you can instead list it as Basic General Lab, but a specific lab needs to be a bit more focused.
Your backstory mentions that you received all of the advanced parts needed to build a Township before being cut off, but it doesn't mention from whom. I'll assume it's from some branch of the EU government unless you want to say otherwise.
Just as clarification, in your backstory it mentions that 'it has been years living on the base trying to get off the planet', but the factions have not been constructing their Townships for more than six to eight months or so, as the Marked have been around only for about that long. Your factions were not trying to flee until that point.
As a general question, your faction seems like it was already at the spaceport before the chaos began. Do they harbor any grudges against the other factions in Europe for making use of their spaceport basically without permission? And you mention in your opening paragraph of your background that they were trying to 'promote interstellar travel'. Are you thinking about pursuing this as a goal?
In your faction description, you mention that you've been fighting against the Marked for 'a few years', but again, they've only been around for six to eight months or so.
Zweanslord:
Spoiler
Tweaked Advanced Solar Energy to Improved Solar Energy. Improved Solar Panels provide 225 energy each.
Tweaked Expert Solar Array to Advanced Solar Energy. Advanced Solar Panels provide 300 energy each.
Under Basic Energy Management, Basic Capacitors can store 1000 energy each.
Laser Theory is no longer required. You can pick up a different bonus tech, or if you want an alternate energy weapon type you can acquire the Theory for that instead.
Tweaked the Space Solar Array, changing the description of 'Basic Expert Solar Panels' to 'Advanced solar Panels'.
Just double checking, looks like you have two sets of Beam Tanks? So 500 of them?
Rogue Dragon:
Spoiler
Improved the Basic Mining Arm to 50 units of material a month, rather than 25.
Basic Shamanism increases the minimum cost of all units to 2, but reduces the cost of all units by 1. This puts your current FP at 12/12. Your units are as follows: Kevin Brightstone (4), Catherine Brightstone (2), Richard Balkins (2), Michael Flint (2), Miyoko Sato (2). This resulted in a 3 point reduction to your FP.
Shamans require additional upkeep in each unit due to their status (they require various items to perform their duties, and as people in a position of power, are generally well paid and such), but improve efficiency in skilled units, reducing cost. They provide a small morale bonus, but if killed or somehow lost, the unit suffers a large morale penalty.
Maldiem:
Spoiler
Tweaked Advanced Nuclear Reactors to Improved Nuclear Reactors. They provide 2250 Energy.
Military Chain of Command provides a 15% increase to FP. This gives you 14 FP. This functions as a Government type, though it can be combined with certain other Government styles. Faction wide FP multipliers do not stack.

Not sure if you intended for all of your units to have their stats in descending order or not, but wanted to point it out to you at the least.
Did you want to give a brief description on your unit leaders, or do you want me to do so? It's fairly important as it decides how they'll react to certain situations and events before you have an opportunity to command them.
I assume for Rocket Propulsion that you're looking some sort of booster? If so, Basic Rocket Propulsion will require Organics for fuel and the rockets will need to be refueled with each use. At the Basic level they'll provide enough power to escape the pull of the Moon, or to re-enter the Earth's atmosphere safely. With very large rockets you could launch from the surface of the Earth as well.
Advanced Command is tweaked to Improved Command, and will provide a 10% max FP bonus. Faction wide FP multipliers do not stack. Given your military bent in your background, you might consider taking Military Chain of Command instead, like Maldiem and An Enemy Spy.
Tweaked Advanced Factories to Improved Factories. This is a pretty broad category, though. I'll assume you're looking for improved production value. Improved Factories give a 12.5% reduction with general factories and a 30% reduction for specific factories. They require 750 population and use 200 Power.
Tweaked Expert Factories to Advanced Factories. Again, assuming you want improved production value, this is 15% for general factories and 35% for specific factories. They require 1000 population and use 400 Power.
Tweaked Efficient Nuclear Reactors (yes, I know that I used this term earlier, haha) to Improved Nuclear Reactors. They provide 2250 Energy.
Advanced Construction doesn't work. Living Quarters and Cargo Bays need to be researched separately. This messes up your freebies as well, since you can't upgrade both your living quarters and your cargo bay unless you want to use two techs on this.
In freebies, tweaked Expert Construction Factory to Advanced Construction Factory.
I will say that there is an alternate method to getting cargo into space as opposed to using cargo shuttles. The spaceport will have it if you're willing to spend a turn or two to research it.
Your freebies have an extra unit that you haven't listed yet, which leads me to believe that you're not completely done yet. Just let me know when you make your tweaks.

Spoiler
Advancement in Nuclear Reactors is Improved Nuclear Reactors. They provide 2250 Energy.
Advancement in Hydroponics is Improved Hydroponics. An Improved Hydroponics Farm provides 2000 Food and requires 100 Energy.
I assume you're looking for Life Support and Living Quarters upgrades with a Construction improvement, but these require separate techs. This messes up your freebies as well, since without both Improved Living Quarters and Improved Life Support you can't upgrade them both.
Basic Academics allows construction of the Basic University facility. Basic Universities allow you to distribute 1 point of exp for free each turn. They require 100 Power.
Basic Recreation and Leisure grants access to various luxury facilities such as parks and libraries. These luxury facilities improve civilian morale and can trigger positive events.
Tweaked Research Facility to Basic General Research Lab.
Tweaked University to Basic University.
Did you want to expand upon your unit descriptions at all? I can do it if you'd like, but it's fairly important as it decides how they'll react to certain situations and events before you have an opportunity to command them.
Made some changes to my units and techs. Notably I'm replacing my factory techs with one upgrade my cargo bays, one to upgrade my living quarters, and one to build an internal shipyard.
@Zweanslord: Alright, looks good. Basic Vehicle Lasers can use the same factory as the Basic Infantry Lasers, as stated under the first tech. And you forgot to list the amount of Energy the Basic Capacitors can store.
ArcaneStomper:
Spoiler
Military Chain of Command has this description: Government. A formalized and enforced system of authority allows for a greater number of people to work toward a common goal. Gives +15% to max FP.
As such, you have 14 max FP now.
Improved Cargo Bays can store 500 units of goods.
Improved Living Quarters provide living space for up to 1000 people, and require 100 energy. Just keep in mind that upgrading to these will go over your Hydroponics production.
The description for the Basic Shipyards tech is the following: Grants access to modules to produce up to a Size 2 Ship. A Shipyard requires a number of interior and exterior module spaces equal to the size of Ship it can produce, and requires 200 Energy per size point.
When I post up the updated combat rules once we get started, this'll make a bit more sense, but a Size 2 Ship has room for up to 6 spaces worth of weaponry, armor, systems, and what not. Unlike the Township, other ships you build are not modular, so they work a bit differently.
Your freebie builds the Shipyard, which automatically uses up 2 Interior Module spaces and 2 Exterior Module Spaces. You don't need to use two freebies to get the exterior as well, it's all one package.
Faction descriptions, unit numbers, timetables, and naming are fixed.
Faction is currently an amalgamation of two different units from the EU military and the families that were stationed with them.
I fixed my background to say that the 303rd Myrmidons were organizing the defense of the European spaceport before being melded into Hammerdyne. Implying that we're a force that protects the civilian population inside the spaceport (not caring that people use the facility as long as what they do is safe and they don't get in the way of the defense effort).
I fixed interstellar to intrastellar. Interstellar is a far off dream, but intrastellar progress needs to be pursued a lot more than it has been.
Still wondering if more people would like to become partners. =o
@Maldiem- It would be nice to see what the American's have in mind as well. I might craft a few things that would make getting around easier.

Okay, I'm in the process of getting everything ready, IC thread should be up sometime this week. I was hoping to be done by today, but I spent eleven hours on everything and I'm not done yet, and I seriously need a break. If you want to look over the NPCs though, I have the Status thread up, and the OOC thread is up as well. Feel free to post your sheets in the status thread now, and don't worry about the encrypting bit; I'll explain that later.
All right, for the freebies, I just took away the improvement of living quarters and life support modules, and gave myself the basic research so that I'll be able to create improved life support.
I'll get more details on the units in the status thread.
