But think about what would happen if you made it so that hits on characters between you and your intended target did count... You would hit teammates going in for melee, or just otherwise in the way, almost as often as you hit your enemy. I think the rule is perhaps a bit over simplified, but that's better than being too complicated.
Plus, don't you think that autofire would be a bit overpowered if you could count it against the enemies in front of the ones that you are aiming at, or discount their cover bonus? I think giving you a 2x2 square is already pretty generous. Anyway, it's hard to be disappointed with dealing 10 damage to three different enemies in one round.
Besides, if there's anything that doesn't make sense about the rules regarding cover in saga edition, its that no matter how many things are providing cover for you, it's +5 to reflex defense.
Standing behind a 2-fool high wall? +5 reflex defense.
Standing behind a 3-foot high wall, and a platoon of storm troopers? Still +5 reflex defense.

That's what Precise Shot is for.

Oh, I was never saying it should discount the cover bonus. I was remarking on the other sillinesses of the cover rules. Autofire is really no different from a grenade attack, though. It's only because of the Soldier talent that I can even reduce the penalty to -2 instead of -5 (in which case I woulda missed horribly).
Also, not complaining. I was just curious.

Yeah, that's silly, too.

DAMMIT STOP COMPLAINING
just kidding. I know you were just asking, and I would have done the same.
By the way everyone, just a heads up:
I'm going hiking out in the boonies of Maine for a couple days soon. Starting on Thursday, and going until at least Sunday afternoon, I will have no computer access. I did get an iphone recently, but don't get your hopes up there, because the likelihood of even getting phone service most of the time where I'm going is pretty low. Plus, immediately after that I'm visiting a friend, so I won't even be back to my regular schedule until next Wednesday.
I'm really sorry, and I will do the best I can. In the mean time, I hope we can keep momentum through this week. Obviously womp rat hunting was not the end-game for this campaign (at least I hope it was obvious) and I would like to get through this little skirmish and into bigger things before I take a few days off.
Cool. just wanted to put that out there. Keep it up team!
No Problem Chosen, we will be here when you get back.
On a side note, just an idea to speed combat up you could consider this approach (we used this in other games I've played in and it worked well): You announce the start of the round, we all post our action along with continguency actions (in case the action we want to do is invalidated by someone elses action). You then resolve the entire round in one post. This way we all aren't waiting for each player one by one in initiative order, you can set a deadline for round posts so the game doesn't wait on a single player (1 day, 3 days, 10 days whatever you want), at the end of the round deadline or once everyone has posted, you take all the actions and resolve them in initiative order and then make a post of what happens. Then you announce round 2 and we do it all over again.

So that method went really well. 'Cai, I just considered your move a readied action, assuming that was OK, and I changed Terra's target since both of your primary targets were already dead, so you took out a different one.
Lets do the same thing for what I can only assume will be a very short round 3...
I mean jeez, I was planning on this being a really easy encounter, but not that easy... We've got some high rollers here.

Works for me. You know my goal was to kill things and stay away from being charged by hiding behind my droid so it worked just fine. *bang* head shot.
And now the question arises: who brought the bag for all those heads? good thing 'Cai's got the hunting knife covered anyway, I was secretly hoping you would all forget that detail...
If nothing else, Head Case can store up to 1kg in his chassis...
Edit: I promise, my rolls will start to get worse...
Though, my damage in that last round was pretty bad...

Alrighty everyone. Sorry about being gone for so long, made worse by the incoveniently timed maintenance, but I am back. will be posting something in the IC shortly.
On a side note I pray to god that man moves wrong and Head Case BBQs him. That backpack is probably loaded with heads and so many credits. I'm tempted to shoot him and then use deception to try and convince the party that he pulled something.
Yeah, being able to subvocalize and thus communicate with your muscle without anyone else knowing is pretty sexy.
On a side, note, I hope we're not surrounded.

No, but even if we do light him up, self defense is always a valid excuse. "Hey, he attacked us! We defended ourselves, that's all."
Also, I've come to an idea about how to build an incredibly broken war droid. It'd be difficult, but it'd be a beast in combat. The d20 system is so easy to break if you try...
Disclaimer: No, I'm not going to use this idea. It's too silly.

Uh, it involves TWF, a miniaturized power generator, and two miniaturized e-webs. Using Burst Fire, that's a potential 10d12. Per round.
The downside is the MASSIVE penalty to hit at lower levels (-12) and the complete lack of hands (at least without adding extras).

As of level 6, it can be reduced to -9, and it can be argued that a Specialized Subprocessor could be built to allow the droid to regulate the power for the generator each round, reducing the penalty to -7. And, of course, if it's ruled that the droid can brace 2 weapons at the same time, brings it down to -4. Let's assume the droid has an 18 dex and weapon focus. That's +7/+7 for 5d12 each single target.

+7/+7 at level 6 for a 5d12 is still kinda, "eh..." I mean there are definitely more ways to break thinks than 5d12 twice.
I dunno. Average damage is 65. Pretty easy to cut through a party with that kind of damage output. Or 33 average damage to up to 4 characters at once...

Oh not denying the efficiency. It's nice, I just think their are other ways to break it.
Then again burst fire is still an AoE so half damage on a miss right?

Well, he might comply once he's staring down the barrel of a heavy blaster rifle.
Not likely, but possible...

Doubt it will matter, but force point to attack roll: (1d6)[6]
Assuming my shot is surprise round and thus before initiative. If it is a full action (and not the "single action in surprise round") then I'd like to change it.
Initiative: (1d20+8)[26]
Shame I logged in late considering I would have LOVED to get the post the second Head Case spoke to shoot the man.
Edit: Hot damn that initiative roll. I can see it now *bang* *draws grenade* *boom*
