Three Truths and a Lie

I've played the game in school and stuff, then saw it on another forum (would link, but it would break the religion ban) Anyway, I thought to post it here. For anyone who doesn't know, the game is you say 3 things that are true about yourself and one lie. See if TPBY can guess the lie.

Here goes:
1) One of my professors has worked with George Lucas
2) I'm trilingual
3) I've been out of the country 3 times
4) I've programmed my laptop's keyboard to be overly powerful

@V Nope. #3. The closest I've been to out of the country is Epcot's World Showcase 3 times

1) When I was in the third grade, my teacher allowed me to fly her push plane.
2) In the past, I have worn women's clothing.
3) I am fluent in Latin, French, and Spanish.
4) According to my mother, I taught myself to read when I was four. I was reading Jules Verne at age seven.

@V: Darn, you saw through my petty deception. I only remember the basics of latin from middle school, and I only know enough french to say, "Hello. My name is Balmas, who and how are you? Where is your bathroom? Do you have some milk? I'm sorry, I don't speak French."

I'm gonna say 3), simply because being fluent in Latin sounds a little off to me. As for women's clothing... well, who hasn't done that?

1.) I once broke a door by falling through it.
2.) I am afraid of rats.
3.) I had a small part in a crime movie.
4.) I've been properly drunk only once.

Hmmm... I'm tossing up between #2 and #4. I'm gonna go with #2.

Well, I know #1 is true following a discussion in that restaurant near Charing Cross, #3 & #4 sound plausible and although I haven't scrutinised your feet in any great detail, I'm fairly sure #2 is the lie.

1) I once did a 100m abseil despite a morbid fear of heights.
2) I once had a role as an extra in an adult film.
3) I once came close to murdering my dad and four children with a sailboat.
4) I have a fear of horses resulting from a night time stroll across a field containing a palamino twice my height.

@V: You find it more plausible that I almost killed 5 people than had a part in a film? Gee thanks. You are, however, correct. If you come to the UK meet in Leicester, I'll tell you the story sometime.

Hmm. Gonna go for 2. The others sound reasonable.


1. Despite compulsory french lessons for 3 years, I can barely manage "How are you"

2. I've been brilliant at Biology, Chemistry and Physics since I was at high school.

3. I own relatively few Xbox 360 games.

4. I once did a running jump about 3-4 feet long and landed perfectly.


@V 'Fraid not. Twas 4 that was the lie. To tell you the truth, I've never been arsed enough to try.

I'd be worried if it's #4, because 4 feet isn't a very long jump at all. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and say #1, because that would just be sad.

1. I own a desktop computer.
2. I own a sword.
3. I own a biography of Hitler from the 30s.

I'm going to say number one. Who actually has a desktop nowadays?

1: I almost always wear dress shirts and ties.
2: I have more shoes than I have pairs of pants.
3: I have two gold-plated Ichiro baseball cards.
4: I want to build my own desktop, but am too cheap to do so.

@V: Nope, number 1. And number two is a misleading truth: I have more shoes than pants, but the number of pairs of shoes is about equal to the number of pants.

I'm going to go on a whim and say #4.

1. I own a sword. And I know how to use it.
2. I own a longbow. And I know how to use it.
3. I own a crossbow. And I know how to use it.
4. I own a flintlock pistol - but that's just a cheapo replica. But if it wasn't, I'd learn how to use it.

I'm going to say number three, the crossbow. I mean... They must be hard to get one's hands on.

3) I once met Brad Dourif and was incredibly rude to him

@V: Right again! Patrick Moore was giving a presentation at a dinner my dad attended, back when I was 7 or 8, so he invited us to his home and we got to see his observatory. It was absolutely awesome! I met Simon Pegg and Nick Frost at a geek-con and got them to sign my limited edition Spaced DVD.

But the one you're curious about was kind of unintentional. For those unfamiliar with the name, he played Pieter De Vires in Dune and Grimir Wormtongue in the LotR films. I met him at the same geek-con and commented that he seemed to have a natural ability for playing deeply disturbed characters. I got the filthiest look from him. Whoops. -.-

With number 4 though, I was working in Eastbourne and my landlord was a professional tennis coach. He was the one that played with Henman and even gave me a lesson or two. =D

I'm gonna go with #4, although I'm curious to know how and why you'd ever be rude to anyone.

I'm going to guess #1 on account of mongooses killing snakes, and .. well.. you like snakes..

1. Having grown up in the south of Sweden, I once walked to Finland.

Well, I am going to be optimistic for you and say that #4 is the falsehood.

1. I forgot to pay for, and thus was not able to, take the AP US History test
2. I have been to all US states west of the Rockies other than Alaska
3. I have competed in 3 triathlons and just did my first Mud Run
4. I am a LA Dodgers fan

As for mine:

1. I accidentally 'fooled around' with a guy once when I was drunk
2. I forgot all about that night
3. I saw 'pictures' of it
4. I deleted my social media page and made a new one out of shame

@V actually, it'd #3 thank god. Luckily I was 14 at the time, so no one remembers. I didn't have that many friends on the social media, so I was pretty ok.

Well, it can't be #1; that makes the rest irrelevant. #2 seems possible, and #3 is pretty likely true. So it's either #4 or #2. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and not call you paranoid, so #4.

1. I only have one pair of sneakers.
2. I have more step-siblings than biological siblings.
3. I am allergic to peanuts, cats, and assorted pollens.
4. I am right-handed.

Gunnar, Number 3 is incorrect.

@V:Correct that I am a Dodgers fans and incorrect that it is #4. It's number one. There's even a crossbow hanging in my room. However, I have never even tried to fire a gun. Or had a chance to.

I'm going to say 4, because just because someone you know makes something, doesn't mean you know how to use it.

I'd say 4 because that seems least likely, but that would be too easy. So I go with 3.

V Wrong. I guess I should have used another tense for the piano sentence, but I can't remember which one. I have been playing the piano since I'm three years old? But I have never hand-fed a squirrel.

Since I basically do not know you, I'll make up with your basic info. 1 and 4 are likely, looking at your avatar. Between 2 and 3 I'll vote for the piano thing to be the lie because I can read it as a non-stop action, playing a piano since when you were 3 to now, and it would be quite impossible.

V Right choice, sort of wrong reason: those were my 3-year-old nephew's birthday presents yesterday And boy was he excited about it!

I'm guessing the lie is that you have a signed first printing.

1: My best TF2 class is Engineer. Strange Jag, I choose you!
2: My worst class is Spy. That pyro's a bloody spy!
3: My favorite class is Demoman. Pipe airshots are a thing of beauty.
4: My least played class is Scout. I just can't figure out the tracking with the scattergun. I've only ever had sucess in all-crit servers where I can hide, kill, and run.

@V: Well then, call me crazy. The lie is number four: since number two is true, spy is least played class.

I'm guessing it's 1. No Engineer in their right mind would use a Jag.


#1 I once failed a chemistry exam by spending lunchtime in the pub and setting fire to the bench during the practical.

#2 Despite knowing several different languages, I metaphorically curl up in and go "meep" whenever I try to use them in their native countries.

#3 I once lost the girl of my dreams a few years ago through rampant personal insecurity and I've never found her again.

#4 It took me five attempts to pass my professional exams as an audiologist.


@V: Sadly #3 is true. It was a South African locum I was working with and we were amazing friends and there was something more there. I...don't want to talk about the rest though. #4 is the lie, it was only 3 attempts and if I had failed again, I would have been permanently disqualified.

The only thing I can say in French is that I can't speak French.
I never did manage to finish reading Pride and Prejudice despite it being our set book for English.
My favourite colour is blue... Hmm... Maybe purple...
The above is because I sometimes find it difficult to tell blue and purple apart.

@V Actually, that's the truth. I think I failed that particular part of English... I can't remember because Ms. Hutson never got back to me about it...
The actual lie is that I can not even say; "I can't speak French, could we please converse in English?" in French. In other words, French people would think me an ignorant foreigner.
Learning enough French to be able to tell people I can't speak French is on my to do list as well as reading Pride and Prejudice.
