And so it begins. This is the OOC thread for my run of the Kingmaker adventure path.
Players:
Spoiler
Metroid33: Aven, Undine Druid
Jane_Smith: Kyra, Force Mage
Keylac: Donat Arkanson, Gunslinger Extraordinaire
Xianthecoder: Ri'Anthal, Transmuting Master
Exthalion: Auberon Haeliaur, ... (Need to think of some sort of title for you)
For Clarification... do we each have a charter or just one for the party? Might become relevant if the party gets split up or if the carry of it falls off a cliff.
I think I'll grab Blue before someone else takes it.
- Cheers, Key

God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of his own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players (i.e. everyone), to being involved in an obscure and complex version of poker in a pitch dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a dealer who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.
And why do you have 3 names? Also, what the heck is a Quipo Spellbook?
Quipo is a system used by the Aztecs for encoding information through the use of knots. It is a conceit of mine that seeing how fantastically expensive it is to scribe spells it makes just as much sense to encode the information through the use of beads of precious metal and stone. That and who suspects the non magical necklace the wizard is wearing is their spellbook?
I can change it, I just thought it would be something cool to do.
As for names: In the pathfinder setting elves typically have 4. Given, Secret, Nickname, and Family. Those are the 4 I have. Thus the character would introduce himself as Aubrey since that is the name he is more comfortable being used by people he doesn't know well or in casual conversation. It is similar to a human named Nicholas who people call Nick.

That Quipo factoid is quite interesting. Go for it, just remember, if your using precious metal beads, the cost will remain the same. This is purely for flavor, and I quite like the flavor.

Thank you, I thought so as well. It would also tend to last longer, since unlike paper it doesn't rot with age.

I'm actually kind of surprised. The first couple of days is usually when people are posting the fastest. It's weird to only have 1 IC post so far.
I was talking to Jane. Apparently she missed that it'd started up, but she should post next time she logs on.

Don't worry about it. It's fine if we proceed at a slow pace, it just took me by suprise that the friday was so slow. Normally the first day is when the most posting is occuring.

As a general note... Our characters don't have "wizard" or "sorcerer" written on our foreheads... Unless someone mentions they are a spellcaster there's little reason to suspect that they are if they are just standing on a road wearing traveling clothes... Just saying... Anyone who looks at Ri'Anthal sees an Elf with a bow wearing traveling clothes and a backpack... Where does that say wizard?
While personally I'm fine if people know he's a spellcaster, but lets at least try an not meta game right out of the gate.
I am a magic-blooded. I can smell magic like the scent ability, but to a more, much more, powerful extent. The moment I got within 60 feet of you guys, I know your spellcasters. Anyone who has spells prepared/spell slots, magic items, spell-like abilities, spells in effect, etc. Does not tell me what class they are, true, but in kyra's mind sorcerers are rare (she has only met 1-2 others in her life), and maguses, etc, are all like wizards, so she sees anyone who "learns" to use magic as '"wizard". And, the whole topic about reviving the dead she could hear... so yeah.
1: Template. Magic-blooded gives me spell resistance, arcane sight, magic-sense (the scent thing), read magic, shape magic, +1 caster level, a form of sight that lets me see the magic in the air/world (low-light vision in a sense), but, at the cost of i become sickened AND exhausted (bypasses immunities and no save/resist), when im exposed to anything that would cut me off from using magic, such as a dead-magic area, anti-magic field, disjunction, dispel magics targeted on me, so on, so on.
Magic-Blooded is essentially what happens when a living person is enchanted like an item with a great deal of energy. My flesh and blood has magic infused with it, i can be detected by detect magic, etc, easily, and my body has a rough time surviving when cut off from the magic that is sustaining it. Its like having a heart attack, lung failure, etc, simultaneously. So, I literally can not fight beholders, etc.
2: Customized arcane bloodline, I get arcane bolt instead of a arcane bond/familiar at 1st level (similar to the elemental ray/elemental bloodline), and i get bonus damage with untyped damage dealing spells and spell-like abilities, like magic missile, bigby's grasping hand, arcane bolt, etc, instead of a bonus to spell DC with metamagic enhanced spells.
Due to these changes I named it "Arcana Bloodline" to show its not 100% like the arcane bloodline.
On another note, on a scale of 1-10 how convincing did my little rant/argument sound for why necromancy/undead is more humane and logically viable over a beast of burden? Critiques anyone? Its hard figuring out what someone with 19 charisma would actually say to persuade someone. XD
Just throwing this out there: I know how to min max, it is fairly easy. However, if there was all this homebrew and templates being throw around, why am I not a +4 int race and homebrew class that uses spellpoints and has native spellpool access?

Well... since I have played with HP in the past and know he knows what he's doing I won't question it, but on paper I would call that a gift of a lifetime. Seems like a lot of amazing bonuses that make your character much more powerful than normal in exchange for a flaw that really won't even come into effect until we reach the point where level 4 spells are within a viable challenge rating. Even beyond that, how often does the average party encounter anti-magic fields... certainly not in the first 5 levels typically? In reality your practical flaw is a weakness vs dispel magic and in echange you gain spell resistance 7, perma uber detect magic, +1 caster level, and a bunch of other cool bonuses. Sounds like an amazingly offsided trade.
Regarding the rant... it's fine logic... but the 13 year old girl personality thing is going to get old quick with Ri'Anthal.
On the subject of Kyra: There were some restrictions put in place when we made her character and she has several disadvanteages on top of those advantages that the template provides. I did say that races and templates were negotiable but only tow of you asked about them. At early levels, Kyra does have an advantage over other spellcasters, but at later levels, she is going to be so incredibly focused on combat encounters that these advantages won't be of much use when the game starts turning into a game of diplomacy, not just exploration and killing. I'm sorry if it seems I've given her an unfair advantage, but I assure you, anyone who gets an early game pro from me can expect some less than pleasent events to happen to their character as the game progresses. Considering Kyra's backstory, theres a lot of unpleasent things I can toss her way.
Allowing the homebrew was also the exception to the rules that I permitted Jane_Smith.

^ That, basically. If you guys want to use the mana system, I think hp even offered it, and I linked it a few times. Its a great tool for dm's, not just players, to make all kinds of mana-based items instead of "charges", artifacts that can eat mana from its user/enemies, etc.
Though after the game has started its up to him, if you wanna switch now before we have an actual fight/etc.
Oh, and another thing about my drawback, I also become exhausted and sickened if I reach 0 or less Mana, so not only can I not cast anymore spells, but I also can hardly move when I go all out. I think that will see play moreso then the anti-magic fields, etc issue, now wont it?
And lastly, sorry about the energetic/13-year old personality. Her personality reflects how much energy she has, if shes running low she becomes lethargic, uncaring and unresponsive. If shes full, shes like a squirrel drinking coffee. It will change quite a bit threw out the game.
OOC
I'm using the assumption that Ri, Aubrey, and myself were at least introduced to each other, and had traveled for a time in company, while Alice and Kyra joined us when we stopped (maybe we walked too fast for them)
I was originally under the impression we were all traveling together, but then a few players posted that they meet us here, so I just went with it. But yes, I agree that Donat and Ri'Anthal (and Aubrey if thats what Ex desires) have been traveling together for at least some time up to this point. Ri is no outdoorsman and you would know that he is mainly focused on academics. It's a safe guess that he is on this mission in search of lost knowledge more than any other reason, and you can tell that he was probably selected for the mission because he has cartography skills and is proficient in mapping. Thus far he has avoided using magic as much as possible in public settings, relying on his bow in combat situations.
My character is interested mainly in magical items, nodes, etc, and I was likely sent along to aid you in your research by "Sniffing" hot spots out and identifying any latent wards, glyphs, magical traps, or lingering magic traces and acting as a guardian against bandits, etc. I am also in the service of a restov noble (yes, despite my chaotic alignment), which is likely why I am out here as a service to him.
Hm, I am guessing I came along as well but trailed behind for some reason. Maybe I saw something along the trail and caught up?
