Døden kommer til deg (3.5, low magic, players wanted)
Døden kommer til deg
Quote:
Jorgen ran down the knoll with the reckless abandon of a dead man, he knew it, it just hadn't dawned on him yet.
Lather foamed at his mouth and blood ran freely from his thigh and arm,
"I can make it, I can make it..." he breathed hoarsely to the hoar frost on the ground "I can make it, I can make it..." his breath sending plumes of steam into the air.
He collapsed on top of the small hill, unaware of whatever was behind him, or not caring.
"I can make it..." *crunch* he stopped breathing and closed his eyes, maybe it would protect him if he couldn't see it?
*crunch*
"I can..." *crunch*
The cold gets passed his adrenaline and he starts to shiver. slowly he opens one eye and sees two peering back at him. "I can make it..." he says with tears in his eyes.
You are warriors of your tribe, bought to the chieftain in haste, something has disturbed him and nothing disturbs the venerable Ruthgar.

Re: Døden kommer til deg (3.5, low magic, players wanted)
Interesting. Given the Humans only races option for players, what other races are there in the game world? If one were to play a Ranger what Favored Enemys would be appropriate? I'm guessing Humanoid (Humans), Giants, Monstrous Humanoid, and Animal.

I would say ~50/50 spread on hack & Slash/RP.
Combat will be done with the party rolling a combined initiative vs the monsters and once everyone has posted actions they will resolve in the order of individual initiative bonuses and the the monsters and then the party (wash, rinse and repeat)

Basically for starters.
I'm thinking right now, a barbaric northern human area ,think Chereks and Algars from the Belgariad, or real world Norse/vikings. That will eventually find other races, but its going to be more gritty than usual, with no magic and the vitality - Wounds alt rules.
Re: Døden kommer til deg (3.5, low magic, players wanted)
I'd be interested in playing a priest of the/an almighty thunder god, bringing down righteous lightning as a Capacitor. Can't have vikings without a little bit of thunder and lightning, and it doesn't seem more magicky than a binder, so it seems like it might be acceptable, maybe, and definitely my only bit of homebrew.
Some additional rambling about the class:
Spoiler
I'd probably remove the summon monster spells from the SLA list, and depending on your view of healing either bump up the vigor spells 1 level or remove them (though, fast healing does nothing for Wound Points, so I dunno if that makes a difference). On that same note (for consideration/balancing purposes maybe?), I was considering Protection from Arrows or Shield, Thunderhead, Lesser Vigor, and probably either Lightning Bolt or Weapon of Energy. Most of his combat will involve running into the middle of things and warhammering them, with (Con Mod) electric damage on each hit and a facefull of 3+(1x or 1,5 Con Mod) electricity to anyone who hits him. It might even turn into a Karmic Strike build if my stats allow it.
Probably be a bit of refluffing here and there, and maybe not actually charge by moving around so much but instead sacrificing actions in combat to charge.
Re: Døden kommer til deg (3.5, low magic, players wanted)
I think I'm going to post interest here, probably as some sort of really manly warrior, with traditional values. With that wonderful greenish blue face paint, charging into battle, weapons raised high. I think I might stay pretty traditional, with a light wooden shield and a battleaxe. Otherwise, I'll make a High Sword, Low Axe Fighter.
Re: Døden kommer til deg (3.5, low magic, players wanted)
stats
Dunno why my 4db3 didn't work... (4d6b3)[2][5][6][1](14)13 (4d6b3)[2][1][2][1](6)5 (bwahahaha!) (4d6b3)[5][4][6][3](18)15 (4d6b3)[4][1][2][5](12)11 (4d6b3)[4][2][2][4](12)10 (4d6b3)[2][6][4][3](15)13
So, net bonus of +1 stats. May I reroll, or...?
Health (6d8)[4][5][3][3][1][4](20)
Rerolls of ones: (3d8)[8][4][3](15) so that's 27 hp, plus con.
Request for an heirloom bow named Plogrlopt, that is a Dragonbone, Elvencraft Masterwork Composite Longbow. Passed down through the Freyjuhof generations, it is a bow that can be used as a quarterstaff, and shoots farther than a normal bow.
Request this Pathfinder feat:
Deadly Aim (Combat)
You can make exceptionally deadly ranged attacks by pinpointing a foe's weak spot, at the expense of making the attack less likely to succeed.
Prerequisites: Dex 13, base attack bonus +1.
Benefit: You can choose to take a 1 penalty on all ranged attack rolls to gain a +2 bonus on all ranged damage rolls. When your base attack bonus reaches +4, and every +4 thereafter, the penalty increases by 1 and the bonus to damage increases by +2. You must choose to use this feat before making an attack roll and its effects last until your next turn. The bonus damage does not apply to touch attacks or effects that do not deal hit point damage.
Request a Flaw: Vulnerable -1 to AC. Heiðr is overconfident in melee combat, and often overextends her guard.
Character name Heiðr Freyjuhof.
I speak no Old Norse, but looked up some cool sounding things online. The name is Honor Freya's Temple, and the Bow is Sky/wind plough.

Thinking swordsage or warblade...how do you feel about homebrew martial schools/maneuvers? Not sure if i will use them but wanted to know if its worth looking
Re: Døden kommer til deg (3.5, low magic, players wanted)
I haven't read (or heard of) that book series, though wikipedia makes it seem interesting. According to this page it seems to be comprised mostly of humans and a handful of strange monstrous creatures (Harpies, Trolls, Dire Animals, and Fey). Translated into monster types, the most common would seem to be Animal, Monstrous Humanoid, Giant, and a smattering of Fey.
Does that seem accurate? Just trying to get a better idea of what the people in the world know about and what kind of beasts they would be scared of/protect against. 'Ware the bog at night, for that's when the Black Dog prowls. He howls in grief and loneliness and kills any he comes upon out of frustration and rage.

Dang, 24pb. Is the 28 an alternative option, or is it straight one or the other?
Capacitor looks ok, just know the pwers from it will make you a witch/shaman/thunder priest (huzzah!)
Rolls explained at the bottom of this post.

PF feat is fine, flaw is good. No special materials for weapons or armor, and no elvencraft (it will come, do not worry)
and rolls explained at bottom of post.

I'm going for a 'classic' vikings, so not historical, more fantasy based. You will be encountering other fantastical races (but later on).

I'm ok, dependent on which ones, there are some good ones and some bad ones.

Yeah that sounds around right, at this point in time the tribes have stories of monsters, and they are extremely rare, the occasional beast is slayed or hunted down. So the majority of people haven't seen a troll, brownie, nymph, ogre etc...but there are stories.
@Everyone: stats are 4d6, roll 4d6 and add together.
Re: Døden kommer til deg (3.5, low magic, players wanted)
Very interested. I'll go for a Warblade, I think, probably with a bit of a focus on Iron Heart and White Raven abilities, for true Viking might. I'll go for the point buy system rather than roll - two scores at 16, the others at 10. That'll do, since the house rules are going to end up modifying them.

The bard that is allowed is the non-casting bard variant?
About the dragon shaman, have the tribe ever seen a dragon?
Is the TWF fix allowed?
Are we allowed to grow a beard so manly that it can wield his own axe?

Cool. Probably take Humanoid (Humans) and Animals then, as it sounds like the few beasts that are encountered would probably be more massive or strange versions of regular animals (i.e. Dire Animals). That a fair assumption?
He'll be a straight Ranger. I'd like to use the Champion of the Wild ACF from Complete Champion. Figures it makes sense in a world mostly without magic. I'd also like to use the Strong Arm Combat Style from Dragon 326. It's pretty simple; Power Attack is the first Combat Style feat, Improved Sunder is Improved Combat Style and Great Cleave is the Combat Style Mastery feat.

Re-EDIT: Alright, so I'm thinking a fast, tough, strong barbarian champion of the north. Maybe not the brightest, but with plenty of simple wisdom to dispense. Or maybe he allows his actions to speak for themselves, rather than his words...to hide his crippling stuttering problem.

Love it when players use bad stats for awesome RP.
