Silly Message Board GamesA forum for any kind of quote games, continuing story games, "What would you do if?" games, or whatever anyone comes up with. Old threads will now expire after one month.
Ok I'm pretty sure this thread will go nowhere but I have a game Here's how it works two people will create a card and a third person will judge.
The first poster of a card will get to choose a Name, mana cost, and type ( creature instant etc.)
The second poster will choose the cards Rarity abilitys and, card permitting, power/toughness and must also put the top part of the card in a quote on his entry
the third person would then decide if the card is over/underpowered give a brief description why and give a 1-10 rating.
For example:
Poster A: Machine of derp 7
Artifact
Poster B: tap machine of derp puts a 0/1 derp into play sacrifice it at the end of turn
Poster C underpowered card cost too much to affect game 3/10
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And now for an actual entry for this game
Paladin of Akroma 2WR
Creature human soldier

Hmmmm... Seems just a tad overpowered. Compare to Animar, with protection from just two colors and his other cast creature, get counter, creature cost less ability. But he starts 1/1 and has a very specific mana cost, as well as being legendary. Still, a good card. I give it 7/10.
Also, what about flavor text? All good cards have flavor text.

Each player may sacrifice one creature
If they do, they may draw cards equal to the number of creatures sacrificed this way and gain life equal to those creatures' combined toughness.

Heck yeah, I love roundabout ways of giving my opponents card advantage!
The problem with this card is that there's no good way to come out ahead with it. Maybe if you have a creature that isn't doing anything for you anyway, like if it's been stabbed or pacified or something, but there are cheapersacrificeoutlets that that don't give your opponents the opportunity to improve their own position in the process.
It would be fun in multiplayer, and would probably go into, "the pile," but the end result still puts you one card short of anyone else who goes in on the pact... if someone lacks a creature to sacrifice, you might, perhaps, screw over that one already-probably-losing player slightly more than yourself. I'm not sure if that's really anyone's idea of a good time, honestly. 2/10 it is.

Well, that's a real beatstick of a finisher. Wham in, wham out. For 9 mana it better be. However, it really requires your own mob of creatures. If I pay 9 mana for something, I expect it to work by itself. A 3/7 with a mana sink indestructible is not that great, I would much rather play True Conviction and Ball Lightning for the same mana. Plus with no flash, the indestructible enter the battlefield effect is almost worthless. You can't even wrath after playing it, since you'd have no mana. The death effect is also pointless without a sac outlet. All in all? While I wouldn't mid this magically appearing on my side of the field, I am not putting this in any decks of mine.
3/10 (Points for flavor text)

Put two 1/1 white Bird creature tokens with flying onto the battlefield. "We train them to deal with any airborne pests. They can take on anything short of dragons – which, unfortunately, make up the majority of our pests."
-Hrothgar, keeper of the aviary
Boring ability, I know. But when I see "Raid", I can't help but think of Raise the Alarm.
Might be overcosted, since cards that spawn two tokens are generally 2 mana, but the flying may make up for that. But I fail to see anything red about this card. 4/10
I propose that the person to judge also begins the next card. All in favor?
If so:

This is pretty interesting, actually... It's like a Prahv Guildmage that's harder to kill, or a moving Arrest on a stick. I'd probably move the effect to at least uncommon, since having too many of these floating around might make things weird in limited. Also, I doubt the limit of two is really necessary; if the idea of someone dumping nine mana into this thing is scaring you, chances are you're already in some trouble.
The flavor text also feels a little weird, but 9/10 just the same.
Next card!

Manages to be a bit too strong and far to weak for its CMC at the same time. Scry in green, I cant think of a single example of it, but its so thematic I think it gets a pass. Strong tribal types as well. Downside, well, its a very small body and a pretty high cost for it. Id definetly consider using it for pauper, maybe even in limited, but I dont think it would ever make its way into my elf deck.

Just completely meh. A 3/2 first strike with haste for 4 which requires two more creatures that you can't use to swing? That would be a powerful (and rules heavy) common but a crap rare. This card practically requires goblin tribal to play and exalted does NOT work with goblin tribal. If this card had battle cry instead, it would be marginally good, but still not worth a rare slot. Make it two or three stacks of battle cry and you would have been golden.

So you play it and you get to immediately alpha strike, interesting. Then if you haven't won, you're probably going to lose. Unfortunately, aggressive falter effects belong in red, definitely not blue and usually not black. Also it fails the vanilla test and sits dead in your hand if you don't have a board state that can take advantage of it (and if you're playing blue and black, you rarely do). 3/10

If a non-zombie creature that was dealt combat damage by ~ would die, exile it instead. Return it the battlefield under your control at the beginning of your next end step. It comes into play tapped and is a black zombie in addition to its other colors and types.
3/6
Sweet. I love this concept, however, I feel the "non-zombie" restriction is rather unnecessary. "Non-artifact" would be more flavorful and more mechanically relevant. You can leave it as a blocker with enough toughness to survive a thragtusk, or you can swing for practically 3 unblockable damage. For five mana, this is an awesome card that isn't overpowered. However, this does not feel like a green card to me. If it were instead in 3UB with the non-artifact restriction, this would be a full marks card, but as it is not, I cannot.

Draw three cards, then discard two cards. If you discarded a rogue or if you control a rogue, target player loses life equal to both cards converted mana cost.

Really feels like a rogue sorcery. I probably would have had the requirements as either if you discard a rogue or if you control a rogue as the way it is now, the wording comes out somewhat clunky. Probably feels a little weak for its CMC, id probably want slightly more card advantage or a guarantee of damage (as rogues are typically so cheap) for 5.
When frog form enters the battlefield, all non-frog creatures becomes 2/2 green frog creatures until Frog Form leaves the battlefield.
Whenever a non-frog creature enters the battlefield, that creature becomes a 2/2 green frog creature until Frog Form leaves the battlefield.

Well, there aren't many frogs in magic to support a good tribal for this. I imagine it was meant to be a turn to frog on global, permanent scale, however, it does not affect abilities. I guess you could halt some big creatures with this, and use a swarm deck with evasion and tap abilities, but really, it is not that great a card. Perhaps it would be better with flash.
