"As you wish."
Tarith heads back to Steiners, but along the way, he goes by the table, and collects some rather nice food, before heading back past the entrance to Swan's Rest on his way back to the house.
To himself Not all is well in paradise. Hopefully she still has enough juice left to bring Cecile and Basil back, though.
Very well, Arrallae I hope you are feeling better in the morning.
Xander bows on his way out.
Xander mentally relays what he learned while studying Arrallae to the party. I still can not figure her out. Dantie, why do you beleive so strongly she is from Pelor? I would expect more a being related to the elven or fey pantheons.
When Dantie gets Xanders mental reply to him he is not surprised. All I know is we can not tell her about many things especially the fey woman guarding the covens. I am not sure why but I was tasked with making sure she does not remember the past and I plan on doing so. So keep your questions very open and not personal. Its why I stayed behind and spoke with Jacob. He is going to tell us what we can talk about in front of her and what not to mention. Dantie says not turning from his meal that he is savoring.
My lady it was not Balions fault. You see when he learned he could never see you again his heart was filled with much pain. I suspect over the years that pain turned to anger and resentment towards Stiner and Jacob for not telling him how to open the gate, if even they knew. That I am not positive on yet. It seemed like later on in Steniers life he knew. But whether or not he did early on is unclear to me. And so he went mad with his grief and that is how the man known as Kazym turned your once great guardian into his puppet. He promised him that he would make it so he could see you again. The lich has a silver tongue that he uses very effectively. It was Balions last moment of clarity that opened the gate. He was always loyal to you and it was he who helped us until the end when he could no longer fight the liches magic that led us to you. He was a braze man and died protecting what he loved. I'm sorry I was to late to help. But I hope this brings you founder memories of him. and with that Dantie goes rummaging into his bag of holding until he finds the painting of the three guardians and hands it to her. So that you may always remember the fallen that protected you Arrallae. then when she mentions leaving Swans rest Dantie bows his head and says with a smile. It would be my honor to escort the morning star through the fey wilds and cleanse them by her side. But perhaps could you allow me a few hours in the morning before you leave so that I may bring a friend back to life. Or perhaps I could bring him hear and he can help you as he has helped me? His name is angelis and he was a noble guardian of Pelor. I promised to both my church and to the fey that I would make sure he was brought back from the dead, but if I wait to much longer he will be beyond even my power. Dantie says as he sips on his wine.
All goes fine in the meal and Dantie feels like he has not eatten that good in years. As the mention of dessert comes up his stomach growls in protest. I do not think I could eat another bite if command to do so. That meal was so well made. I am sorry. Dantie says as he finishes of the wine that was placed before him.
As the children pull her away he watches turning his eyes back on as he sees her fall and runs over towards her. Jacob I am a good healer where I come from perhaps I can be off assistance. Dantie says trying to see if their is a change going on within her with his eyes. Then to Xander mentally Will explain soon.
@Dantie: Arrallae looks at the painting handed to you.
"This is...beautiful. I see Steiner's hand in this no doubt. Look!"
Owen and Gail look at the painting then at Jacob.
"Is that you, papa?"
"That is me, kids. A long time before you were born. Those two are Uncle Steiner and Uncle Balion."
"Thank you so much, father. I will treasure this forever."
As Arrallae falls to her knees, you realize that the initial push against the kids was not done with vile intent. As Jacob holds her close to him. You see cracks of golden electricity course through him. Arrallae's face is sunk into his chest, but her glow has not diminished.
"It is fine, Dantie! I will meet you in the house! She's having an episode again."
Yes I have more if you would like to see them later. I would like Jacob to see them first though so that he may be allowed to take the one of his choosing. And if it were possible I would like to bring Balions belongings here as well. So that a part of him is always here, just like a part of you was with him all those years. Dantie says happy she liked the gift.
As Jacob refuses his help he nods and walks to the house, but not before trying to detect evil, not once though does he take his eyes off the two of them until inside. Once inside Dantie looks to Tarith and says What have you learned so far while here? And he said this is an episode. Did any of the two other guardians journals mention anything like this? Dantie asks not sure yet of the situation.
"It seems that this has happened before, and so is probably not an attack, but we should go by the portal just in case. I think we need to ask Jacob some questions when we can. I don't remember anything about episodes in the journels, but that does not mean that it is not there. But, if there is no mention of it in the journels we recovered, then this has started since she was sealed away from the world. The question is, of course, what is the cause. I would guess power drain, but I could be wrong. Since I will be near the entrance, do you mind if I borrow your bag of holding to store Basil and Cecile in?"
Tarith continues walking towards the entrance, seeking to verify that there is nothing attacking.
As a side note, I think Tarith is going to drag Basil and Cecile into Swan's rest, so as to keep track of the bodies.
@Tarith: You walk down the lane from Arrallae's temple. The houses all sport an inviting glow and fireflies float around the rose bushes that line the cobbled streets. You reach the Great Seal and step out.
What a difference here. In contrast, colors seem muddied. The ground is cracked after Balion pulled out his hidden power and indentations on the roof where Dantie, Xander, and the undead allies were crashed into remain, sending some small debris down to the floor below.
Not too far, you see the remains of Cecile and Basil. Their hideous visage frozen in an ever-present growl. Their armor mostly broken by the fall, and their bodies cracked more so than when they shambled about.
@Tarith: You begin blinking and dump the contents of the bag. Cecil and Basil's bodies are beginning to wash away in the gentle breeze. The entrance to the village is not too far away, since you have taken but a few steps.
"Well, lets start with the basics then. What happened to her, how often does it happen, when did it start, what is consistent between the attacks, anything specific you have noticed, and what is up with the kids?"
@Tarith: Jacob puffs on his pipe and looks up at you from his chair.
"You certainly go to the point. Very well. I'll try to answer as clearly as possible."
- Arrallae suffered an "episode" as I call it. She manifests a sudden burst of energy which can damage those around her. As you have seen from my arms and chest.
- It does not happen often. It usually takes place when she is under tremendous mental duress. The influx of information today about Balion, The Shepherd and the forest as a whole, must've caused her to expel it.
- This has happened a few times over the past decades. usually when she sleeps. Her mind, it's almost as if it wants to unlock itself. Then there was our stupid attempt at having her divine the future. However, it was far worse then. I had feared the same would happen now, but, thankfully, it was only a spurt, so to speak.
- You mean Owen and Gail? They're my children. What's wrong with them?
"They seemed unusually strong for young children. Typically, a kid is weaker than an adult, any adult, but in this case, they weren't. I suppose I have one final question, although the others will almost certainly have many more questions. Do you know if she would be willing to raise my dead friends? They were killed by a group working with the lich, and I am unwilling to simply let them be dead. It is complicated, since they were turned into the undead by the lich."
Tarith locates and presents the painting of the man in armor
@Tarith: "Oh, you mean that. Well, Swan's Rest has amazing healing properties, which are also carried into the soil. For those who have lived here as long as them, or me. These properties manifest with increased stamina and strength."
Jacob ponders on your question regarding the mummies.
"You did drive the monster away. I can only assume your friends were casualties in this war. I am certain if you ask Her tomorrow, she will have no problem doing so. Such a feat is well within her scope."
You produce Steiner's sketch of the armored man. Jacob looks at it with uneasiness.
"Steiner was a well-traveled man. He met many characters during his time before he met us. After we found Arrallae, but before the Seal, Steiner left on a journey of inspiration as he called it. It is possible he drew this man from his past travel before leaving once more. He never did mention him to me."
@Tarith- Jacob takes a good puff from his pipe and looks out the window, admiring the lights of the nearby houses.
"You may believe that we are nothing but idle folk, living off the fat of the land. The bounty provided by Her. I can assure you that is not the case. Before the Seal was built, Steiner, myself and Balion had to face off against many enemies that were bent upon slaying Arrallae. One was cruel Nerine, which I believe you have met. She was a difficult opponent, but we managed to drive her away. When the Seal was shut, and with Steiner and Balion gone, I predicted that one day, the magic Steiner used on the seal may subside. As such, during our 200 year retreat, I took it upon myself to train every man, woman, and child in Swan's Rest. The entire village is prepared for an attack, should it ever come. We built makeshift shields, armor, arrows. Built ground cover, and even fashioned extra defense from the three fountains. Every home has at least one able sword hand or bowman waiting to protect this place. I do not know the power of these new enemies. I doubt they are weak, but Swan's Rest will not surrender to outside forces. You can bet your coin purse on that."
Dantie up until now was content with the others asking all the questions, but now a few things came to mind. Some more important then others, but none the less had to be asked. Jacob it may be easier on all of us if you tell us what she does remember. Also I would like to hear about this episode in the past you are talking about. Is it the same thing that happened to me and the high priest of Bobboc that I told you about earlier? And what about creatures not native to this plane? would that make it turn on? If so I suggest someone send glimmermug back to the coven to warn them that she will be coming tomorrow and to have their guest hide. Dantie then looks back at Jacob and asks the most important question for the time. And could all the stuff she is doing tomorrow set her off once more? If so I will need to know how to deal with her Jacob as you have done. Dantie says allowing the man some time to answer what has been asked so far.
(1d20+9) the planes for ealier when he saw the cracks in her I am trying to see if it is like the burst of energy on the plane of postive energy.
@Xander: Jacob empties his pipe on a wooden ashtray on the table and pockets it. He looks at his singed hands then out the window towards the Temple, where the light has dimmed tremendously, giving off just a light glow.
"She must be fast asleep now."
Jacob gets up and walks towards the window. His expression goes grim.
"When we saw Arrallae bring forth such bouty to our camp, some of us got curious about what else she could do. Arrallae herself was unaware of many of her powers, so Steiner took to mentoring her for some years. He would later reveal that she could indeed serve as an Oracle. He also warned me of her sudden episodes. As such, following Steiner's design, we built a vault behind her temple. A vault that can be opened with three keys- replicas of that which made us known in Swan's Rest: Steinerīs lute, my bow, and Balionīs scythe. We asked Arrallae to descend the vault with us three and fashioned her to a chair for ease. She did request that there were manacles attached to the chair. I did not understand why, at the time, but we secured them anyhow. It would be later that I would understand why."
Jacob takes a deep breath and turns to look at you.
"She entered a trance. It was a most disturbing sight. watching her convulse on the chair and speaking in tongues as Steiner scribed down what she was saying. Then, it happened. Something took over her. Something that was completely different to the Arrallae we knew. She almost killed Steiner and it took Balion and my efforts combined to...subdue her. After that, the three chose unanimously to seal off the vault and separate the keys. Steiner left mine with me. Balion took his into the woods with him. I would not know where it is."
@Dantie: Jacob ponders on your question.
"She fell from the sky, so that would lead me to believe she is not from this plane, most certainly. I do not know why she should not have interaction with beings from another plane, but if you have been told by higher powers regarding that, it would be best. Arrallae manifests this erratic behavior only when under much stress. And these instances are very rare. Should she behave that way in the forest with you tomorrow, I ask you do not try to hurt her. Do as I did. Hold her tight and remind her of who she is. She will eventually return to her senses. And yes, it would be wise if you have a fey envoy outside Swan's Rest to warn the coven's guest to go if that is what you have been advised."
Jacob walks towards the door and looks at you three.
"She is no monster. That is something I would know. Good night."
@Dantie: After Jacob leaves, you recall the cracks of golden lightning flowing through her body and the bruises left on Jacob's body. This sort of power would originate in places where tremendous energy is stored. If you had to guess, a surge of positive energy, but at a scale so high, that rather than heal, it could kill.

Her abilities have proven truly remarkable. Is this second set of sealed doors the last created by the tree of you? And aside from the incident where you attempted to have to scry the future, does this vault have any other purpose?
When she lost control of herself, in what way did she attack you? Did she use massive amount of positive energy, or did her energy seem to take on another form?
If we can not locate Glimmermug, I can cast a sending spell to inform the coven we will get heading that way in the morning with Arrallae. I can send them a second when we are nearing the coven itself.
@Xander: "Thank you for your assistance, Xander. That would make things easier. I have not had contact with the Covens for awhile, so I doubt they would listen to me. As for your question regarding the attack, Steiner said something was unlocked within her. Like a dormant personality. She had a disturbing change in her voice and her eyes mirrored a starless night. She manifested her same powers, but with a lashing force... with malice."
Regarding your questions about the vault.
"We built it for the sole purpose of her serving as Oracle. We have an old smithy down there, which I used to make the first weapons for the village, but it likely cold now."
That truly is disturbing news to here. A woman lashing out in certain circumstances is a normal enough occurrence, her's of course seems be a bit extreme, however it is the change you saw in her eyes that worries me most. Given the knowledge you have now, would further attempts at assisting her realizes her full powers be possible, given further precautions, and protective measures, of course.
Dantie, do you have someone specific in mind, or anything thing you wished me to voice on your behalf in my message to the coven?
@Xander: "Arrallae only manifested this behavior when she was set in a trance and asked to divine for us. According to Steiner, she seemed to do rather well during the seance. At some point, apparently, whatever it was inside or outside took over. I would not worry, however, since she needs to be actively centered in an oracular trance to have any chance to trigger such an effect. Even then, Steiner proposed that, if this were to happen again, careful questioning should be made. Of course, that is of no consequence now, since one of the vault keys was in Balion's possession. And who knows where he hid it."
