Its not that it presented problems, and it was fine after refreshing the page. I just noticed it was a different page and thought I should bring it up.
That Cloudflare one just seems to pop up when giantitp is really busy. I've only seen it a couple times, and it always goes away if you just try again in a minute.

And yet I still manage to get "server too busy" sometimes....
Re: Search disabled, maintenance, and other changes
When will I be able to search my own threads? Ever since the upgrade, when I click on "Find all posts by Jay R" on my own profile, I get a message that "you do not have permission to access this page".

its a bit more work, but you can probably just go through and view your posts through your subscribed threads list.

Re: Search disabled, maintenance, and other changes
If i donate a nickel can we have search back??? True i dont understand the stuff behind the scenes, but i dont understand what the problem is. Would a chip upgrade or something fix it?
Re: Search disabled, maintenance, and other changes
1, they don't accept donations, they're a business -- buy an ad on the site for a worthy cause or project if you want to contribute financially
2, it'd take a lot more than a nickel
3, in addition to the monetary expense, it takes time to rebuild the search indexes, during which time the forums would be down

As others said, it's not actually about permission, it's just that search is turned off. The main search link was removed, but for whatever reason, instead of removing the "find all posts by x" link from all profiles, they just changed it to go to an "i'm sorry Dave" page.

Adding a thread to your subscriptions requires actually performing that action, while posting in a thread automatically adds that post to your "threads you've posted in" feed. The first is possible to forget to do.

Actually, the second one can be turned off, as well.

Re: Search disabled, maintenance, and other changes
The word "lynx" followed by a space causes an error to happen server-side. The error is caused by a filter put in place by the host company, and is meant to trap an exploit within the lynx browser. However, this trap is unncessary for this site, because the lynx software isn't installed.
Similarly, a colon followed by two spaces is also trapped by the host, again because it's a key to a software exploit.
The lynx issue comes up surprisingly often, and the colon-space comes up from time to time as well. There are a few other combinations/words that are trapped by the host, but they rarely come up.
Edit: and if you want to see how I successfully posted "lynx" followed by a space, quote my post to see the code/workaround.
Re: Search disabled, maintenance, and other changes
That's what my solution was, and he said his was easier. Presumably, adding the color code in the middle of the word is more difficult than linguistic gymnastics.

Yes and no. I just suffer the laziness that results in having to do more work.

Quit stealing my neurotic dysfunctions... (I routinely stretch myself to the point of near-spraining a muscle in order to reach some distant object so that I don't have to get up and go over to it.)
Re: Search disabled, maintenance, and other changes
So... I just saw the search function in one of the threads I'm in. And, as I was looking for something, went "Yay! I can search again!", then clicked it. At which point I was told I didn't have permission to access the page.
While it's clear that that means the search function is still disabled, I'm curious as to why I saw the button for the search function in the first place, especially as it's not showing up here?

Doubtful. The last time I visited that thread, and that page in it, for that matter, the search function wasn't showing up.

I feel like mentioning that there's an option to auto-subscribe to all threads you post in. (Quick Links -> Edit Options -> Default Thread Subscription Mode.)
