Familiar? Not really. I read over it ages ago, and honestly only remember the basics of the concept, which could mostly be gleaned from tidbits mentioned in your post presenting it.
>.> Would you mind if I used the pathfinder version rather than 3.5, or at the very least use the network/collective range from the Vitalist? I was looking more closely and the PF version makes low level play with the Network/Collective much easier by making it just Medium range until later on, rather than gradually increasing it from 30ft to close, to medium, long, Miles, infinite, and then planar. A 5ft step and suddenly the frontline fighter is out of the net, not fun. >.<
Kilian Bohl will live again, oh yes.

Is it too late to post interest? I'd love the chance for a good game with a decent roleplaying component.
I was initially thinking rogue, because I've been wanting to play one for ages, but I wouldn't want to step on the factotum's toes... I do have a beguiler I created for another game that died - if I tweak her to fit this campaign, would that be allowed?
if this is the character I think it is, I have a character that was created alongside the beguiler as an.... adopted sibling (a warforged Knight)
he'd have to be reworked I think, in order to fit the new 16.
so... can I come and play?

Alright! So! This is cool, because Doug here did something I really like.
With the inclusion of other characters, he helps me define the world better. I'm building this around those who are applying, and filling in the gaps as I need to. So, the more information you can give me about who your characters are, and their relationship to the world around them, the better.
In Stivan's case, if he is selected, Geron and Lowdun are likely to appear in some capacity. There is also a Bronze Dragon out there who Stivan is familiar with.
Thanks.

Certainly your background doesn't have to cover all those points. I'm looking for a couple paragraphs at the least, a page at the most.
Some questions, is Greengrass coastal? If not are there any large lakes or rivers?
One for later, can dragon shamans take paladin feats that improve LoH class ability?

It is certainly not too late to post interest. I like to leave my recruiment threads open for awhile.
Beguiler is allowed.

Greengrass isn't a part of any established campaign setting, but let me see what I can find in my notes.
Yup, okay. Here we go.
Greengrass is a rural town on the outskirts of an island city-state called Crossroads Island. Crossroads is the biggest human nation in the world, though true to their expansionist nature, there are other small human nations set up on the various continents. Crossroads itself is divided into six Regions, each ruled by one of the six Grand Guilds, with the city in the center of the island being neutral territory. Each Region is then divided into several Provinces.
Greengrass is in the Region of Loamrun, which is ruled by the Soil Kings. Their guild revolves around food production, and Loamrun is both fertile enough for farming and close enough to the sea for fishing. Greengrass itself is a small trade hub halfway between the sea and the capital of the Gallow Province, which is also named Gallow.
Greengrass also falls very close to the border between the Provinces of Gallow and Wheatland. It's within a few days journey of the capitals of both. Gallow and Wheatland, as has been mentioned, were once a single Province, but were split by feuding brothers, and remain to this day rather cold towards each other. Greengrass has often been disputed territory, but has belonged to Gallow for some time now.
If you (or anyone) have more questions, feel free to ask.

I will allow use of the Pathfinder version's Network range progression.

You are certainly welcome to. Warforged aren't native to this setting, but we can certainly fit them in without much issue. Especially on Crossroads.

Greengrass is not itself coastal, but the ocean isn't far away. A few days journey to the nearest unnamed fishing village.

No news is good news.
Stivan Baerns was raised in a small fishing village and loved swimming, until the day he was almost eaten by a shark, then he loved dragons...
That day he had swum too far from shore and suddenly realised that he was in trouble when he spotted a dark shape in the water below him, as the shape neared he recognized it as a shark and himself as an easy meal.
His swift swimming was as nothing to the shark and it closed rapidly and then the water was red with blood all around him, Stivan was amazed that he was feeling no pain and looked back, expecting to see half of his body missing... But it was the shark that was in two peices, rapidly being gulped down by a huge bronze dragon. "you are out of your depth little fish," the dragon spoke, with an amused tone, "swim on home".
Stivan stammered his thanks and forever afterward yearned for the power and grace that had been revealed to him that day.
Stivans Parents do not approve of his choice to become a dragon shaman, desiring instead that he follow his fathers footsteps and take up the role of a fisherman as his brother Gerry did.
Stivan's search for the secrets of draconic power has lead him far and wide, through many coastal towns and ports to islands beyond number. Recently he has been investigating ancient rumours of an item containing Dragon Spirit that was last heard of in the Possession of Harl Silver, a Silver Dragon shaman who is rumoured to have stayed for a time in the vicinity of the town of Greengrass (but this was 40 or 50 years ago).
Ok, I have to admit, my interest is peaked. Expressing interest as a Human Rogue (heading to Assassin, eventually), making my rolls, and hoping the background doesn't come out too long...
I'm interested, I don't usually like playing the mysterious warrior trope, but I hope to make it appropriate and kind of fresh by playing nice with everyone.
Also, I plan on playing a spiked chain fighter for those wondering.
And DM, would it be okay if I used the Inhuman Reach Abberant feat? If not its fine, its kind of a huge feat tax anyway with the useless entry req., I wanted to use it because its both potent and flavorful though. I am planning on making him into a somewhat of a social paraiah, but works well with the people he knows. He would, however be a strong believer in Pelor.
EDIT: Actually I really really want to take the feats, they are in Lords of Madness pg 178 (Aberration Blood) pg 180 (Inhuman Reach). Essentially, all it does is increase my reach by 5 by making my arms really long because of the taint far realms.
Scratch that, too many feats. I thought we were playing at level 6 for some reason. I do want to be a lockdown fighter though. Maybe knight or psychic warrior?

piqued, not peaked.
Sorry I've been reading a lot of work by non-professional writers lately and the sheer number of spelling mistakes and words being used in the wrong context or just plain wrongly has slowly been driving me up the wall. I think you just managed to push me over into critical mass (because apparently, I am a nuclear reactor...)
Anyway, I haven't rolled hit points yet... how 'bout I do that...

Heh, no worries. I was looking at it oddly as I typed it, thinking "huh that doesn't look right. And peeked looks worse." I should have just looked it up, I suppose, but it was the middle of the night. Still is, technically, I suppose.

This is decent. If you think of more, feel free to keep adding. But what you have is acceptable.

Knight and Psychic Warrior are both fine. If you chose to use Aberrant Feats, I'd expect some backstory connection.

You know what whoiam? No. You bring bad luck on my games. Get out.
As a side note, now that I have a bunch of applicants, I'm going to put some time limits on this.
I will close to new interest in two days, on October the 10th. A week after that, I will close applications, and begin choosing players. It should only take a day or two after that for the game to begin.

A fairly large amount. If you go east, you head further into Gallow, and the next biggest town is the capital a few days away. It's mostly farmland in between, with a small forest about halfway and a little south. To the west is a similar situation, except you'd be heading to the capital of Wheatland, and crossing the border brings you to Dovetail Forest, which is big enough to be named. On the other side, about a day's worth of farmland and then you hit Egdarston, the capital of Wheatland.
To the north, the land becomes less and less able to sustain crops, though you'll find people who try, until you hit ocean.
And Blademaster is approved.

Do Half-Giants exist at all in Greengrass or the rest of the world?
EDIT: Actually I should be asking, can I use Half-Giant and LA buyoff?

They are also exceedingly rare.
To the west, across the great World Sea, is the continent of Malthan. There, orcish and goblinoid tribes scour the great forests, and in the north, giant and goliath clans fight age-old battles, stemming from the time when they were all one people.
Half-giants are actually of orcish blood as opposed to human, due to humanity rising from Crossroads Island, and only arriving on Malthan recently in terms of cosmic time. Their natural psionic power comes from the intermingling of the old elemental bloodlines of the giants with the mortal minds of the orcs. It's rare that a giant should ever mate with an orc, and reactions to such a union differ depending on the tribes involved. Some are regarded as blessings from the ancestors, others are seen as abominations. That's up to you to decide, if you choose to use one.

Lady Moreta had a pair of sets where you would need to think a bit to choose which to use based on your character design, I don't think anyone elses have come close to being a choice

True, my only difficult choice was what to make my dump stat... And even that was fairly easy... Now whipping up a back story, but have to go to work tonight, so that could be in the morning...
A history of Karland; Nobody knows where and when Karland was born exactly. What we do know is that one morning a minor city librarian found him on the doorstep of his church of knowledge, the library. Karland was only a few weeks old at the time. The librarian decided to take Karland in, and raise him as his son. That's how Karland's life of great knowledge began.
Karland grew up in and around the library, and learned to read while children of his age were still struggling to speak. His great intelligence and unknown origin set him apart from children his age. As a result, Karland spent most of his childhood reading each and every book in the tiny library.
When Karland reached the age of 16, most children his age were sent out on apprenticeships to learn a trade. The librarian found it only fitting that the same be done with Karland and sent him away to the capital(DM: or whatever city with a grand library) and it's vast library. Once there he was set to work in helping indexing and maintaining the vast collection of knowledge, and Karland spent every spare hour trying to read every book in the library.
Karland spent 55 years at that library, and by the time he left he knew every book in the library by heart. He then returned, aged 71 to his "father" the librarian. His father was 91 years old by now, and had long since retired from the library, now living a life of peace and quiet.
Karland told "father" about the many wonderful things he had learned in his 'apprenticeship', and proceeded to tell him about his new life's goal. To find the ancient and mystical books containing great knowledge, more than enough to grand Karland limitless knowledge and power.
Karland travelled the world for the last 5 years, joining adventurers and questing in the hope to find more knowledge and information about the ancient books. He usually aids adventurers with his great knowledge on various areas, and off course his knowledge of the manipulation of magic.

All looks pretty good so far. I will get back to you on the subject of books for sure, but I think if you want to have a few tomes which collectivly count as a Masterwork Item of Know(Blank), costing 50 gold for the set as per SRD, that would be fine for now.

Alright. The Blue Mage. Hrm.
See, I don't have a mechanical issue with this. I'm more concerned that you won't have much to work with at the lower levels. Most of the enemies you'll be fighting at first will be humans with class levels, and class abilities are among the only things you can't steal as a Blue Mage. If you're okay with not getting much to work with the first few levels, you're more than welcome to use it. Just know you might be working with what you start with for a little while.

Okay, so I just bought myself 200gp worth of extra skill points. According to phb the weight would be 1lb, seems a bit light for a collection of books. Shall I change that to 10lb to reflect about 3 books each?
Also, does Greengrass have a (tiny) library which would fit my background? And which capital should I use for the bigger library?
