Here is the out-of-character thread for the Mysteries of Prophos game. As this game is dedicated to teaching new players how to play, all the questions/comments you may have about gameplay can be posted here. This is also where we'll be doing all the dice rolls.
Feel free to start posting here and interacting on the IC thread. After everyone gets a post or two IC, I'll start revving the plot engine.
Xing Hong-Hua is still 17 years old?!?! please fix that.

I want to see where the noise comes from.(how do we roll here?)

Should I roll separate dice for Phantom(the hawk familiar) to see if it can see what makes the noise?
My time zone is GMT+3:30 and I check the forum almost every hour except when I'm sleep(and even then I might check in my dream)
that means from 10AM to 3AM my time or 6:30 to 11:30 GMT.

Edit: oh, seems that the problem was you can't roll when editing.

I'm on GMT, I'm currently still off work for the Winter, but I start again next week. Unfortunately I work shifts, so my postings will be erratic, but they will be regular. If that makes sense.
Also, yeah, no dice rolling in edit. All of the different dice rolling functions can be found here.
One of the things that is suggested in that last link is that in-character speech should be clear and easy to read, which is most easily accomplished by everyone picking a colour and using that for character speech.
With that in mind, I'll pick Indigo for Kole, as I've used it in all my other games.
If everyone else wants to claim a colour, here is the place to do it.
Finally, for the sake of sanity, might I suggest we all stick to 3rd person past tense (which everyone has done so far I believe)? If everyone's speaking with the same voice and tense, it should be easier to follow, in general.
As for what Kole heard shayanuser (if that's what you're referring to, if not, ignore this) then it was just a bit of flavour in my post, I haven't been PM'd anything by Alagaesian!
[edit] And yes, you can roll separately for your familiar too, although at these levels, if it sees/hears anything then there is a limit as to the amount of information it can convey to you.

I choose blue for Regret
Do we use the color when thinking too or not?

The way I've done it in the past, and I think this is what is suggested is to use colour for both thinking AND speech, but to italicize thoughts and put "speech marks" around speech. Regardless, as long as we all agree on a standard we should be fine.
I'm GMT -5, or Eastern Standard Time for everyone in the US. However, most of my activity will be after 3PM in my timezone, unless it's a weekend, in which I'll probably be checking on this all day.
We're still waiting for Iceman and SwordScythe to check in, both IC and OOC.
I would just like to mention that, unless we feel like having a paradox on our hands, Iceman's basically been forced into being the first member of the group, who then set out and found the the others, unless someone edits there own introduction.

It's okay. Elves mature at the same age as humans; Drizzt Do'Urden was 16 when he started his adventure. They just live longer and age slower from that point. I don't want to argue, it's just a matter of preference. And also, it's not cool to make fun of people just because they read that elves grow to maturity at the same age as humans.
Please. I don't want the trouble.
If we can understand, I will choose dark red for my text color.

Not necessarily, it might be that someone else (a stranger) started the group and after a couple of people joined, he just went another way, leaving the PCs in the group (although that might not make a lot of sense, it fixes the paradox).

I don't mean to be rude in any way and I, personally, don't intend to make fun of anyone. It's just that there is a random starting age table and your age was far off the chart. The only person who can decide that you age is a problem is the DM and If he says its ok, then its ok of course.

I think it would be interesting to have a couple characters who are 50+ and remember Prophos when it was at its peak, but otherwise, I really don't care what age everyone is at.
Also, for the sake of simplicity, let's assume Shayanuser's idea. The convoy was originally composed of other people, but as they passed by different towns and villages, some people broke off and others joined. Eventually, the only people left in the group were the ones headed for Prophos - that is, the PCs.
I'm hoping we can have some more personal interaction between the different members of the party before everyone reaches Prophos. Feel free to talk to other characters, explain why you're going or what you hope to do there, etc. while we wait for Iceman.
Yeah, that was what I was kind of assuming. I was going to wait until everyone had at least touched base before I started too much in character talking, but I think you're right, if we start now, Iceman can always read back and wont really miss anything.
@IcemanJRC: will you be posting in IC thread anytime soon? Cause we seem to be kind of waiting for you to post something.
@Alagaesian: Could you give us something to do while we wait for Iceman? Or perhaps start the plot and then Iceman can join? I think interactions between the characters can't be an alternative to the presence of a storyline, not for much longer!

I have something prepared that I can post to ignite the plot, but I'm afraid Iceman will need to think creatively to find a way for Andre to survive to introduce Andre to the plot if he comes in after I post. That's why I've been waiting. If he hasn't put something up by tomorrow afternoon, I'll PM him again to let him know we're going ahead and flare the plot up.
Here's a little flavor on the Equinox Celebration. Many places in this world tend to have holidays around the equinoxes and solstices. Some people think they originally had religious importance, but that's not always the case now. Different places tend to celebrate the spring equinox in different ways - in some isolated villages, it only marks the start of the growing season, but in larger, wealthier cities like Prophos, there tend to be huge festivals. Prophos in particular celebrates the increase in trade that comes from the melt-flooded Swiftwater and cleared mountain passes. (The Autumnal Celebration is more of a "this was a great year; let's have one last big party before it gets really cold again.)
Okay, I guess I'll be making that post tonight, as soon as that pesky 60-second timer runs out. By the way, anyone who checks the IC thread and then looks back at some of the word choice from my last post will probably face-palm.
I'm curious, what are most of the buildings in Prophos made of? Because if they're wood, we might have Chicago fire situation where the fire manages to get carried over the river in the firestorm.
Beats starting the campaign in a tavern, doesn't it?
Technically, the river isn't frozen, but there's no way anyone would want to go swimming in it. Besides, there's a reason it's called the Swiftwater. It's current is also unusually strong this time of year due to all the snow-melt. There are a couple bridges, but there aren't too many of them because there are also passage-boats that can take people across the river. All of those passage boats are working overtime trying to get people across right now, and the mobs of people are overcrowding the bridges.
Most Prophos houses are constructed of wood, with the more "important buildings (the temple, castle, magic academy, etc.) mostly being built out of stone for the sake of longevity and preservation in times like this. However, due to the fact that Prophos is generally pretty moist, fires are a fairly rare occurrence. Hence, flammable buildings aren't something the average person is normally concerned about. There really aren't any city-wide procedures for dealing with a forest fire either. Thus, mass panic and confusion.
There is hope, however. There is a nice gap of grass between the tree line and the city (a couple hundred feet at the narrowest point) where a handful of Prophos farmers will plant their crop in a few weeks. That should slow the fire down somewhat. If nothing comes along to put the fire out, however, everything on this side of the river will probably burn to the ground, and the buildings on the other side will be a bit singed in the best of circumstances.
You know what? I might just make a roll to see how deadly this fire is going to be. I can't decide whether to just let it stop at the edge of the forest or to immediately crown into the outer fringe of Prophos.
Spoiler
(1d20)[17]
Interesting...
Edit: With this roll in mind, I'm going to wait until later tonight to post something. I feel like I should give Iceman and SwordScythe a chance to react to this.

And the best part? You don't know whether she was aiming high or low.
