Finding Players (Recruitment)Look for players for chatroom, play-by-post, or even real-life games here. Threads will expire after 3 months, so be sure to move important information to your OOC thread.
Greetings. I'm Aurethius, and I'd like to recruit 1 more player for a Dark Ages: Vampire Game. We will be using the Dark Ages: Vampire rulebook (the 2002 version with the ankh on the cover). We will be conducting our game in an IRC room (I can help you hop on there if you have no IRC experience), and we'd like to have OOC chatter on Skype (Text chat only, no cams or voices, so relax) as well, but that isn't a requirement. We're all rather fresh to this particular book, but we're motivated to have a good time with it. I ask that you have decent type speed and good grammar. We will be stressing a laid-back typing speed for this game. Think, then act. Ask me questions, learn the scenario. Make me work to describe things!
I ask that you keep the greater portion of your backstory a secret, and just send it to me. All I need from you is a sheet sent to me, and maybe some general ideas of who you're making posted here in this thread.
Our current chat times begin at the following hours, and we'd like to RP for a few hours after that start time. We will not necessarily play on all of those days, but if you can work with those times, wonderful.
Tuesday 1900 hours BST, which is 1300 CST, 1400 EST
Thursday 1900 hours BST, which is 1300 CST, 1400 EST
Friday 1900 hours BST, which is 1300 CST, 1400 EST
Our game will take place in the year 1230. Your Sires, wherever they are from, having once been part of a coterie and who are today still in some form of an Alliance, have decided to each send one similarly-aged Childer to one particular kingdom. The childer, you players, are instructed to 'Take the Kingdom, and hold it'. The Kingdom in question is small, dilapidated, run into the ground. It is a crapbucket. It is on the land that will one day become Krzanowice, Poland. It is approximately 8 or so kilometers from the Odra River, and roughly 50km from the nearest formations of the Carpathian mountains.
The theme of the game revolves around building up this Kingdom. How you boys and girls go about that is part of the fun. I'll do my best to keep up with you, and make things enjoyable and challenging.
This game, in keeping with the spirit and themes of Dark Ages: Vampire, will be fictionalizing the region, and certain aspects of history. We will only loosely follow the books here, people. If you are passionate about Polish history, or Hungarian history, or any history, then by all means come on in, but please be forgiving with how tight we are to what went on back then. Historical fiction.
I would like you to choose a clan aside from those already chosen. Everyone aim for their own clan. My two current players (descriptions written by them)are:
A devious Nosferatu spymaster working from the shadows to ensure the coterie's success.
A Ventrue more suited to later years, more Social than Physical. She hails from Aquitaine and has her eye set on Princedom.
All clans are allowed. If you'd like something fringy, just talk to me about it here. I don't have any house rules for Dark Ages just yet.
Backgrounds: Excluding Preludes, You players will be beginning play on the road, at night, heading toward this new kingdom. Everything you have will be brought with you. You will not rule the kingdom yet, you must take it over. Domain, unless it's located elsewhere and you really want to burn the dots, shouldn't be bought. Herds must be brought along somehow, same for Retainers, resources must be in some form that you can bring along. We'll discuss this further in OOC chat, just keep it in mind for now.
Dalines is a great place to host your sheets. I would be happy to see prospective players making their Dark Ages character sheets on Dalines.
Languages are important. Many books were written in Latin. The majority of the peasants in this kingdom will speak Slavonic (Slovak/Czech) and Polish, and most or all of the aristocracy will speak Old High German as well.
And some notes about women in the middle ages, based on some quickie research my players and I conducted.
Spoiler
There are cases of women achieving positions and status in the Middle Ages that may surprise you. Scientists, Writers, Artists, Warriors, Teachers. There are cases of women left to care for a castle, and doing quite well as leaders in their own right. Though most women were wives and daughters and farmers, most men were fathers and sons and farmers. It is true that armies were composed almost entirely of men, and that women in true, independent positions of power were rare, they still existed. You can be one of these women, if you so choose. You can have been unique as a mortal, that is perfectly acceptable.
Education was sometimes difficult to get for women, but there are some Universities in those times which were open to women. Convents were a source of education for women, but of course they are convents. High-blooded women would sometimes have access to education; schools and traveling teachers and well-stocked libraries could teach much to a girl seeking knowledge.
Prostitution was a thing in the Middle Ages, and it was tolerated, to a point. Most prostitutes worked at, or from, a Brothel, which was owned by someone. I've recently discovered that in 1478, Pope Sixtus IV licensed brothels. So how about that?
Now remember this; as a Ghoul, you can learn anything. As ghoul to your sire, you could be taught any profession your Sire wishes to teach.

It's gonna be a good time, folks. This is the aforementioned Ventrue player, by the way. We can make do with one more person, but I thought a group of four would be nice for variety. Looking forward to playing with you!
As hayabusa I'm interested, but can't due to the game being chat-based on times that aren't compatible with mine
Anyway, happy gaming to everyone and throw me a PM if you ever start up a PbP

We've recently had a third player join, who is creating a Lasombra architect. That leaves every other clan open, and I'd like to see at least one more person join.
