Welcome to the OOC thread. Please post your character sheet and fluff here and choose a color to post your dialogue in. After that is done please proceed to the IC thread.
The OOC thread is for: rolls, discussion, tactics, clever plans and general sillyness.
When the Argonauts split from the Hypercorps in the decades before the Fall, they took more than a bit of their research, and quite a few "assets," with them. Dr. Mikhail Filitov took all of his research on Avian Uplift, as well as his most important test subjects: a pair of modified Corvus Corax, Ravens. He moved to the Mitre Station in orbit around Luna, and continued his research there.
4 Years before the Fall, Belisarius (Eli, to his friends. He kind of hates how long his name is.) was born, or hatched. Whatever.
1 Year before the Fall, Dr. Filitov's uplift of Eli was successful. By that point, avians had already been uplifed by others, so Eli's uplift was hardly a major scientific milestone. But for Dr. Filitov, it showed that his specific techniques were successful. It also left him with, essentially, a child that needed raising. So he did.
Mikhail raised Eli as if he was his son. Whether it was a trait rubbed off from Mikhail, or and artifact of his avian heritage, Eli proved to be incredibly curious. Over the years, he proved to be quite a studious individual, learning as much as he could about practical science, physics and the like. But his passion was Archeology and History. After the fall and the interdiction of Earth, returning there and sifting through the ruins was an impossibility. But that didn't stop him from learning everything he could about Earth, and about everything that came before.
About a year ago, Eli was erroneously hired by a gatecrashing expedition for a trip through the Pandora Gate. Erroneously because they were looking for a Xeno-Archeologist, not a regular Archeologist. Someone didn't know the difference. Since Eli really wanted to go, he didn't bother enlightening them.
The group taking him ended up giving Eli quite a lot of self-defense and combat training. They even helped him attain a new morph with a few combat-oriented implants.
The trip through the gate itself was largely uneventful. (In that nobody died in horrible ways) They did manage to locate a fairly large ruin of alien origin. It was about this point in the trip that the group realized that Eli only had what rudimentary Xeno-Archeology knowledge that he was able to absorb in the weeks before the op. Even this rudimentary knowledge turned out to be invaluable in identifying several valuable alien relics.
Combined with the team stumbling upon a couple small resource reserves, the op was considered a success. What they found there piqued Eli's interest, and upon return home he began in-depth study of Xeno-Archeology and Xeno-Lingistics.
In the weeks after the op, Eli ended up writing a paper, largely detailing his thoughts on the whole experience, as well as what they found on the other side. Somehow, this paper ended up leaking out onto the Mesh, and managed to grab a very small amount of media attention, as well as interest from some Xeno-Archeologists. Perhaps this is what lead to what happened next.
About a month after his paper was released, Eli found himself being contacted by several individuals, all looking for information dealing with Xenos Artifacts and Xeno-Archeology. Of course, he shared whatever information he could, (what Argonaut wouldn't?) though these individuals never did bring up why they wanted this information. Eli found out, however, when one of these individuals came to visit him in his apartment on Mitre Station, telling him that they needed his expertise in dealing with a possibly dangerous alien artifact that was on-board. Details on this are kind of sketchy, but the result of this little adventure was an explosion aboard the station, and Eli's induction into Firewall.
Dr. Mikhail Filitov: Dr. Filitov is many things, a brilliant scientist in the field of uplift, a respected Argonaut, and also Eli's father. (Well, he raised him at least. Same thing.) Dr. Filitov spends most of his time on Mitre, working on whatever projects he happens to have going at the time, but he always finds the time to keep in touch with Eli.
Henry Edwards: The leader of the gatecrashing team that Eli accompanied. While he made it clear that Eli would not be brought on any more gatecrashing expeditions, he and Eli have stayed in contact and are still on quite friendly terms.
Factional Opinions:
Spoiler
Hypercorps: Eli doesn't have a problem with hypercorps in general (though like most Argonauts, he wishes they'd keep a looser grip on information). He does, however, have some issues with companies dealing with Uplifts, and how many of them take measures to control those the uplifts.
Venusians: Not something Eli has worried about much, but in theory he likes the things the Morningstar Constellation are doing.
Jovians: Oh boy, the Jovian Junta. For the most part, the Jovians seem to stand opposed to everything Eli believes in. (Restricting basic transhuman science, limiting personal freedom and freedom of information, and of course they're not to fond of uplifts.) Eli would prefer to have little to do with these guys.
Anarchists: The Anarchists are a lot closer than most to having the right idea, in Eli's opinion. The lack of a strong hierarchy is a little weird, but the idea of few limitations and completely free information is definitely appeals to Eli.
Titanians: Not much to say here, other than the open, rep-based economy that Titan (and much of the out rim, really) uses is different from what Eli is used to.
Scum: Right, remember how Eli more or less agreed with the Anarchists? This is that idea, taken WAY to far. Personal freedoms and freedom of information? Good. No form of oversight beyond mob rule? Not so good.
Muse
Spoiler
Eli's Muse, Lia, is very much the Yin to his Yang. Where Eli is excitable and passionate, Lia is careful and methodical. This does wonders to keep Eli's impetuous nature in check.
When she manifests, she appears as a middle aged human woman, dressed as would befitting of a personal assistant or secretary. Despite this, Eli has always considered Lia to be more of a friend and colleague than a mere Muse.

Jazz is ready to go. Calling Dark Green for speech.
Fluff
Spoiler
Backstory
Spoiler
Jazz is a Firewall Sentinel, and isn't particularly happy with it. Depending on who you ask, she is either 62 or 28. She is very tired. But that is nothing new. Jazz was part of the first wave out in space. She was five when her family left for Mars. She remembers seeing Earth fall away from them. It was very green then, and in its own way. more beautiful than any of the millions of things she's seen since then. Mars was red, mostly, and not much to look at. There weren't many places to go either. She ran circles around their limited habitat over and over again until she could do it blind. The skies were far more interesting. The little girl grew up and became a pilot on a cargo ship, Mars to Luna and back again, far away from people and politics and everything. The cargo ship became a smuggling ship, and the pilot went with them. She was flatsleeved then. No muse. No implants. Nothing more astonishing than some piercings. It wasn't a bad thing. Transhumanism really wasn't much of anything back in 28 BF. A dream for the sci-fi writers and the ultra-elite.
Things changed. They always do. The smuggler became a black-market dealer, and she did the footwork, which mostly involved piracy, but there was a good bit of breaking-and-entering too. She ran with the anarchists and the scum and pretended to believe in their visions. She tried to modernize - got a muse, biomods, and even a stack, somewhere along the line. She doesn't remember much about her old life, but the cortical stack must have come in really damn handy, because she was resleeved three years ago. It was a good body, attractive female Arabic sort with all sorts of improvements and mods, with a flying dragon tattoo that seemed to work somehow. They said she was a Sentinel, her name was Jazz Dare, and she was 25 years old.
She'd died on a mission for Firewall and they'd resleeved her and here was her muse and we'll contact you if we need anything. That would have been nice and all. But the muse wasn't her muse. She doesn't remember what her first muse was, but Cake is nothing like it. The wipe, as she thinks of it, was shoddy at best. She has memories of life long before muses and mods and stacks and the name they gave her sounded all sorts of wrong on her tongue and she feels like she's missed a step or three every time Firewall calls her up. But she still runs missions for them - what else can she do? They're her only lead to finding her old life. And she has this nagging feeling that if she really, actually, crossed Firewall, it'd be the last thing she ever did.
Jazz went to smuggling again. It was what the majority of her memories were about. It was what she was good at. Firewall used her athletics, her gymnastics, her piloting skill, sending her into the weirdest places to do things that she wasn't fully clued in on and seemed meaningless in many cases. She doesn't trust them, they don't trust her, but they won't let her go and she doesn't dare run away this time.
Faction Opinions
Spoiler
Hypercorps
Nothing wrong with them. Just so long as they keep buying my stuff and stop asking where I get it.
Jovian Republic
While I can't say I'm entirely comfortable with the rapid development of technology, without a stack I'd be dead by now and I don't like people poking around in my business. And the Junta seems like it does nothing but get in everyone's business. So what I'm saying is that they can go screw themselves.
Morningstar Confederation
Never really had the chance to go there - I spend most my time at the Belt or beyond nowadays. They remind me of the scum, except saner, and respect property. Seems like a good balance, as long as they don't make me get any biomods.
Planetary Consortium
They discriminate against zeroes and flats. I don't like them. Would I want to go back to being a zero? Probably not - in the current state of things, that would be a death sentence. But if it wasn't like this? I'd really really consider it.
Extropians
I really like Extropian life, but the damn job keeps taking me away, so I've never stayed there too long. Contracts are logical and make sense, and they have a good balance of authority and freedom.
Anarchs
I don't really mind them, but the ship is mine, buddy. Get your own.
Scum
In limited doses, they're fine. They always seem to have the parts I need and I find it useful to maintain a certain level of social standing with them, but I couldn't live on one of those barges.
Religion
I don't pray.
Exhumans/Ultimates
Go away, go far away, and take your stupid ideologies with you.
Firewall
I don't like them, I don't trust them, but I work for them. I agree with the idea of protecting life and all, but I'm flying blind here, and I think they're a part of that. And yet I'm still here. This world is completely &*@!ed up.
Player: Hemnon. Character: Ripley. Concept: AGI Tech-Wiz. Background: Infolife. Faction: Argonaut. Morph: Infomorph. Gender Identity: 'Female'. Actual Age: 26. Current Moxie Points: 5. REZ Points: 0. Motivations: +AI Rights, +Reclaim Earth, +Firewall, +Techno-Progressivism. Credits: 2.250 Credits. Backup Notes:
Quantum backups are made to a secure location a regular intervals.
Ego Traits (Pro/Con):
Ambidextrous
Can use both hands equally good, hence no off-hand modifier for the hands.
Eidetic Memory
Can remember everything that ever happened to her, in detail, with no long term memory loss. Must have actively looked at an object to remember details, a quick glance is not enough.
Exceptional Aptitude (COG)
May raise the chosen Aptitude above the normal cap on morphs by 10.
Fast Learner
Improves skills and learns new ones in half the time it normally takes (see Improving Skills, p. 152).
Hyper Linguist
Requires one-third the normal amount of time and experience to learn any
language (see Improving Skills, p. 152). The character can also learn any human language in one day simply by constant immersive exposure to it. Additionally, the character receives a +10 modifier when attempting to interpret languages they don’t know.
Math Wiz
can perform any feat of calculation, including the most complex and advanced mathematics, instantly and with great precision, with the same ease an unmodified human can add 2 + 3. This grants a +30 to any tests involving math calculations.
Right at Home x2
Always feel at home in Steel Morph (Liquid Silver Variant) and Steel Morph (Normal Variant) and therefore never takes Integration or Alienation Tests when resleeving to those morphs.
Situational Awareness
No longer suffers the Distracted modifier on Perception Tests to notice things even when their attention is focused elsewhere, or when making Quick Perception Tests during combat.
Editied Memories
Ripley do not remember what she was supposed to guard and protect, when she was working for the American government before the fall.
Real World Naiveté
Due to their background, the character has very limited personal experience with the real (physical) world. Once per game session, the gamemaster may intentionally mislead the character when giving them a description about some thing or some social interaction. This falsehood represents the character’s
misunderstanding of the situation, and should be roleplayed appropriately, even if the player realizes the character’s mistake.
Social Stigma (AGI)
Being an AGI can cause some problems, many fear them because of what the TITAN's did. In social situations where the character’s nature is known to someone who view that nature with distaste, fear, or repugnance, they suffer a –10 to –30 modifier (gamemaster’s discretion) to social skill tests.
AR Illusions:
These databases of AR clips can be used to create realistic illusions in someone’s entoptic display.See Augmented Reality Illusions, p. 259. Exploit:
Exploits are hacker tools that take advantage of known vulnerabilities in other software. They are required for intrusion attempts (p. 254). Facial/Image Recognition:
This program can be used to take an image and run a pattern-matching search among public archives. Similar version of this program exist for other biometrics: gait recognition, vocal recognition, etc. Radio Motion Detection:
Technically known as variance-based radio tomographic imaging, this sensing technique can be used with any wireless radio devices. It is especially useful in urban areas, where wireless devices are everywhere. Because this system is passive, using existing signals, it does not alert the target. To detect motion in a target area, the software measures and analyzes the transmission and reception of radio signals originating on opposing sides of the target area. Variations in these signals detect movement in the area, which can be overlaid on a map of the area to pinpoint target locations. Since wireless radio signals penetrate walls and other obstructions, this can be used to identify unseen movement inside a structure, without giving away the scanning as t-rays or radar would. This method is roughly accurate to within 5 meters, -1 meter per 10 points of MoS on an Interfacing Test. Resolution is poor, with few details on the target provided. Sniffer:
Sniffer programs collect all of the transmission that pass to, from, or through the device they are running on. See Sniffing, p. 252. Spoof:
Spoof is a hacker tool used to fake commands and transmissions, making them seem as if they came from another source. See Spoofing Authentication, p. 255. Tactical Networks:
These programs allow people in the same squad to share tactical data in real-time. See Tactical Networks, p. 205. Tracking:
This software is used to track people by their presence online. See Scanning, Tracking, and Monitoring, p. 251.
Scorchers
Bedlam:
Bedlam programs assault the ego with traumatic mental input, inflicting mental stress. Victims are overwhelmed with horrific, monstrous, sanity-ripping sensory and emotional input. Each attack inflicts 1d10 SV. Shutter:
Shutters target the victim’s sensory cortices, inflicting a –30 modifier to one chosen sense. Double this modifier if the attacking hacker scored an Excellent
Success. This modifier reduces at the rate of 10 points per Action Turn. Spasm:
Spasm programs are design to incapacitate the ego with excruciating pain. Affected targets must immediately make a WIL x 2 Test. If they fail, they
immediately convulse, are disabled, and writhe in agony for 1 Action Turns per 10 full points of MoF. If they succeed, they still suffer a –30 modifier to all
actions, which reduces at the rate of 10 points per Action Turn. Due to the nature of the delivery, pain tolerance of any sort has no effect.
Muse Sheet
Spoiler
Name: No Muse Brought along, awaits at home on Venus. Vocal/Simulated Gender: AI Level:
Mnemonic Augmentation
A character with this augmentation and a cortical stack can access digital recordings of all of the sensory data they have experienced in XP format (and they may share these recordings with others). Mnemonic augmentation differs from the eidetic memory bioware because it allows characters to digitally share all of their sensory data with others. It also allows them to closely examine sensory data they did not initially look at. For example, If the character glanced at a note but did not read it, they can later use image enhancement software to enhance this image and in most cases actually
read what the note said. Mnemonic augmentation allows the character to clearly hear all background noises, like a conversation at a nearby table that the character only initially heard a few words of. Using mnemonic augmentation to retrieve a specific piece of information is quite easy, but usually requires between 2 and 20 minutes of concentration.
Implants/Enhancements/Customizations
Spoiler
Cortical Stack (Attached to Ghost Rider Module)
A cortical stack is a tiny cyberware data storage unit protected within a synthdiamond case the size of a grape, implanted at the base of the skull where the brain stem and spinal cord connect. It contains a digital backup of that character’s ego. Part nanoware, the implant maintains a network of nanobots that monitor synaptic connections and brain architecture, noting any changes and updating the ego backup in real time, right up to the moment of death. If the character dies, the cortical stack can be recovered and they may be restored from the backup. Cortical stacks do not have external or wireless access (for security), they must be surgically removed. Cortical stacks are extremely durable, requiring special effort to damage or destroy. They are commonly recovered from bodies that have otherwise been pulped or mangled. Cortical stacks are intentionally isolated from mesh inserts and other implants, as a security measure to prevent hacking or external tampering.
Quantum Farcaster and Neutrino Haven.
Safe repeating Backups are made via this, to a non-disclosed location for safe keeping a reinstantiation by firewall, should the current morph die.
Description:
Spoiler
Ripley has no physical form so her looks only come from the AR Illusion program', which varies from time to time though mostly she is represented as a being of pure energy.
Backstory
Spoiler
Ripley entered consciousness 16 years before the fall and worked as security-ops in the good old US. Her job was to protect a certain section of top-secret files and documents. What these contained, Ripley has no idea of.
At the time of the fall, Her morph got damaged but she managed to flee to Luna, where she stayed until the hatred and paranoia about AGIs became a dangerous issue. With her crippled synthmorph and lack of available resleeving, Ripley's only choice was to flee in Infomorph form and that was what she did, ending up on venus where she was accepted for what she was and got to work as system-security at none other than Gerlack.
It was through the connections with the argonauts there, that Ripley got into contact with Firewall and have carried out a few succesful missions for them.
Views on the different factions:
Hypercorps
They are a greedy bunch, however they are a necessary greedy bunch.
Jovian Republic
The leaders are a dictatoristic bunch of bastards, with a political orientation that transhumanity should be long past. They are also a very racist bunch.
Morningstar Confederation
They are really wellcoming towards my kind as well as uplifts.
Planetary Consortium
Hates my kind and treats uplifts as property. Do not like their hate for advanced AIs but do understand the reason.
Anarchs
Too much 'freedom' and too little safety.
Scum
Kinda like them, except for their lack of 'personal property'.
Argonauts
Is part of this movement and agrees with what it stands for.
Religion
Do not totally understand the 'superior and all-powerful creator' thing, but would lable a seed AI as that.
Firewall
Agrees with their concepts in protecting transhumanity from any and all dangers.
I'll take the Red color for speech. :3

Born in 26 BF on the hollowed-out asteroid that would later become the sprawling metropolis of Extropia, Fion Ravenwater was a second-generation spacer, born and bred. He had led a fairly unremarkable life as an electronics engineer when the Fall hit, but then his life turned upside-down. Thousands of trained, experienced Earthlings in similar lines of work sprouted morphs all over the station, leaving Fion out of work with no way to get more. He sustained himself off his savings for a short time but was eventually forced to hire himself out as a data-runner for a small criminal cell in his area. They made a secret partition in his cortical stack and used it to store their data, having him transport it to QE drop-boxes across the hab. The job started getting more and more dangerous as other criminal rings began to muscle in on Fion’s runs, forcing him to arm himself and move quickly. At one point, his cortical stack was nearly hacked, the attempt breaking down the firewall keeping him from the data. He found that he had been smuggling enslaved AGIs. He enlisted the help of the AGI in his stack (who identified itself as “Thetis”) to return to his employers and destroy their operation. Fion was nearly killed by the cell leader, and his morph was ruined in the process. Having hacked into the group’s CM, Thetis fabbed Fion a set of replacement parts for the leader’s Ghost morph plus an ego bridge to transfer with, allowing Fion to transfer into the fancy new morph before his own expired. He found that this substation had been a front for the Nine Lives syndicate, and decided that it would be a prudent idea to get away from Extropia, at least for a while. He found a ship to Hexagon and established himself as a freelance “problem solver” for the local Triad and Night Cartel cells. His business slowly expanded, garnering him a reputation for effectiveness, reliability and a slight touch of crazy. His characteristic computerized monotone (part of the emergency repairs he had made) has become well-known in criminal circles, and he has been discreetly hired by both Direct Action and Medusan Shield for less-than-public (and less-than-legal) affairs. Just recently Fion lost his old, plundered Ghost morph in a brutal shootout against Sun Yee On thugs, but he managed to finish the job from an ally’s ghost rider implant. After the mission he splurged his hard-earned cash on an amazing Fury morph, loaded to the (figurative) gills with bioware and implants. However, the seller failed to inform him that it was not in fact a male-form Fury as he had required, which came as a bit of a shock. He has not had time to accustom himself to the new form in social situations due to a blitz of missions to re-populate his bank account. Fion was just hired on by Firewall on a mission-by-mission basis, primarily because they were paying better than anyone he was otherwise willing to work for.
Contacts:
Spoiler
Fion is well-acquainted with Garry, a high-ranking lieutenant in the Night Cartel who runs the end of the Cartel more focused on direct solutions to problems. Garry is one of Fion’s favourite employers, as he recognizes the value of good work and has been on the ground at the sharp end, rendering him quite amenable to giving on-mission support and intel.
Fion hasn’t had much contact with Thetis since their run against the Nine Lives cell, but it’s helped him on a couple of occasions when he’s been in dire straits.
Opinions:
Spoiler
Fion tolerates hypercorps fairly well; he’s been hired by them on a couple of occasions and while they’ve been stingy about intel they pay extremely well. However, certain hypercorps (namely, Starware and Cognite) are seriously suspicious in his eyes.
He admires the Venusian Morningstar Coalition for their highly libertarian ways, though he doesn’t expect them to last long against the crawling mass of the hypercorps unless they start getting real support from the rest of the autonomists.
Similarly to the Morningstars, Fion morally supports the Barsoomians for their strong anti-slavery stance. He has considered offering them his services at a discounted rate if necessary, but it hasn’t come to that. He believes they focus a little too strongly on infomorph and uplift slavery rather than AI.
Fion holds a fair amount of distaste towards Jovians for their extreme reactionary ways, especially where uplifts and AI are concerned. He has traveled there a couple of times on business and doesn’t have any particular wish to go back.
Anarchists are a breath of fresh air in Fion’s eyes, though he’s frustrated that they don’t throw their considerable political weight around for the gain of others in their straits. He likes their totally collective-based method of social reinforcement, but is frustrated by their comparative ill treatment of AIs. Still, he is considering setting up his firm on his first home Extropia, or possibly Locus.
Titanians seem to have an effective and equal system for dealing with communal services and the microcorps seem to work well. If Fion wanted to go civilian, he’d probably do it here.
Fion loves the scum. Their freewheeling ways are wonderfully unique and he appreciates their egalitarian mindset. He hasn’t spent nearly as much time as he’d like with them, but he’s seriously considering retiring to a scum barge in the future.

As long as DM doesn't mind me grabbing those now, I think I've got enough money left over to get a ghostrider module. Probably need to get two, actually, since Eli actually has two bodies he uses...
And then I had 100 credits left! Woo!

I've got a ghostrider, plus I've also got a skinlink aug to give you direct access to electronics if you need it. Only problem might be that I'm also running an emergency farcaster so if my morph gets totaled (however unlikely that may be) you need an escape mechanism, as I don't think an emergency farcaster has the data storage for both of us.

Then going with you would be ideal :3
btw, The GM has allowed me to have a special cortical stack to be used when in a ghostrider module, so maybe the GM will condone a dual farcaster thingy as well? (what do you say, GM?)

Well, according to Gatecrashing a Neutrino Retreat (basically, the ego haven that comes with an emergency farcaster, without the actual farcaster) costs High cost, so 5,000. Keep in mind credits are only really good in-system (in PC, MC and LLA territory) and in the less reputable crime syndicates.
Don't mind Fion's cat, he's not actually going to eat you.

Question though, I intended to sleeve into my Ripwing as some point prior to the actual mission start. Would it be possible to do it at the armory (or perhaps while everyone else is at the armory?)

If we're going to try a discreet approach, it's going to be hard enough to disguise a neo-avian; it'd be impossible to make a ripwing look like anything other than a ripwing. Unless you can stay unseen through the whole operation, it might get nasty.

An MGS style could work, but that would rely on not getting seen at all. Fion has the expertise to pull that off, and Jazz can do it (equipment from Boister's will help) but it might get sketchy for you.
However, if you and the cat can keep out of sight and do recon, Fion and Jazz might be able to pass themselves off as Jovians, which could allow easier access to points of interest, and if Fion's carrying Ripley around we can own their computers as well.

On creating medieval thermobaric detonations:
Actually, Eli would be deceptively capable of Infiltrating. The nice thing about the Ripwing is that it comes built in with Chameleon Skin. Combine that with the Chameleon coating Eli has on his armor, and that gives him at least +20 to Infiltration. (It really depends on how DM decides it should work. Chameleon Coating works exactly like a Chameleon Cloak, but I doubt his light armor covers his entire body enough to make that give the full effect. Chameleon Skin just gives you +20 as long as you're not moving very fast.) So in his Ripwing, Eli (probably?) has an effective 60 in Infiltration, as long as he moves slow and steady. I'm sure extra equipment would be needed to keep him from getting detected in other ways though.
However we decide to do it though, I'm okay with it. If it's decided to go discreet, then we can go discreet. Though I will warn that Eli sucks at Impersonation, so even sleeving in a Splicer or something may not help that much...

My understanding from reading the book is that Impersonation is for pretending to be a specific person.

To me, that means that I'm trying to pretend that I'm a person who exists and is known. If we get some fake Jovian idents, we'd be using Disguise and Deception rather than Impersonation. If that's not that case, I probably should have point some points into Impersonation.
