I agree with you on the 'let's not root around in the Governor's noggin' point. It's unnecessary at the present. If we should find ourselves at some disadvantage for being lied to by the Governor, we'll strap him down and rip his psyche from his nostrils, but until then, there's no reason to invade his brain.
I think Baveboi was saying if they power brokers are our patsies, then they'll defend our investment -- if they support the Governor and he's our puppet, and they don't get along with us, they will withdraw their support.

I'm right there with you. Of course, a well-time hit and run to cripple her engines before we get to fighting the Warboss, to make sure the Stargazer is between the Castle and the OSS Krumpinstuff... that might not be out of the picture. Of course, void shields count as being up for each opponent on their strategic turn, so her taking the shields down won't be of too great a benefit to us.

Who, if I recall, drives a 'highly modified raiding ship.' We'll just have to have her come with us on a trip to investigate the outer rim. I believe astropaths can block astropathic communication, can't they?
Between other things, as well, but I can't erase memories. People will remember her and remember us. It's best to have her fall to an accident during the Ork invasion, if we are to assassinate her at all. After all "the best assassination happens to someone you don't know for reasons that are not yours". Alternatively, we could try to win her over.

Two ships go into the void. One ship comes back. Of the two ships that went out, the one that comes back is the floating fortress. Suspicious? I don't particularly think so. But I also don't actually intend to attack her unless provoked. Turning her to our side would be excellent. We'll have to see whether that's possible or not, though.
Is anyone talking to her at the moment?

They are talking to themselves, the Rogue Traders, I believe, and my skill is not nearly as powerful as I would desire to snoop in unnoticed.
I was talking to Victris about this. Perhaps we could convince them to visit the Castle where my reach and potency can be increased by the aid of my Brothers.

I would suggest nothing so... blatant as firing on her. She's on a raiding ship. So send her to boldly raid Da Krumpgitz by herself. In the Emperor's name, of course.

So long as we can get Locke to accept our orders, we should be fine. I've assented to taking deployment orders from the Naval Officer, as have the other two RTs, and if Donan can work his magic, perhaps we can manipulate her to our way of thinking. Depending on Locke's history with Orleans (the naval officer sent to protect the planet v. the monopolizer, if I've understood the roles our friends have played so far) we may be able to convince Locke to send Orleans out on the death run on the Krumpinstuff.
Of course, if they're friends, we may need to find some other way around it. Or not. Damaris doesn't have to be ours entirely. Anything to increase the PF will be useful. But let that be an implicit notion for all discussions on the future of Damaris -- we don't need a monopoly, but if you're going to plan, you may as well plan big.
EDIT: I wonder where Blitz fits in to this. He's got a golden-hulled cruiser, which is the second largest nongeosynchronous ship currently in the void. We'll see what his story is soon, I hope.

Wasn't Blitz described as an ally of Orleans? Accidenting her might be trickier than it sounds.
The planet isn't part of the Imperium so the governor would not be an imperial governor, what kind of deals and secrets that holds him in power would probably be best to discover before attempting to push him out of office.
Oh, accidenting her is easy, we have big guns. The trick is getting away with it. The easiest way is if we can arrange her to be swamped by Orks somehow. They love the colour red and the biggest possible fight out there..
Maybe we can jury rig some sort of challenge to them, that appears to come from her ship?
The rolls aren't the only way to get people on your side. They help, but it's usually more certain if you actually roleplay out what you say to the NPC in question. Actually give him convincing reasons to take your side.

The only thing I really have over him at the moment is my ability to choose where the troops go (assuming I'm allowed to). Beyond that, I have zilch to influence him.
Notice how I didn't actually make any sort of commitment to deploying them anywhere - jerkface can suck it.
Also, he never answered my question about infrastructure.

The Phoenix Wing will be entirely happy to sit out the war. You've already paid them, after all.
And Sigma will have general Mechanicus codes. They might work. Any codes you might have for Damaris would be identification tags, essentially. Useless for getting you into a Mechanicus facility.

Incidentally, Sigma is aware here that the Mechanicus are an entirely legally independent entity to Damaris and the Imperium as a whole. This island is their territory, and their laws alone apply to you here.
So, you know, be careful what you say. Or code.

See, I'd've sent a vox over, asked for permission to come over, then teleported. Because I really love the teleportarium.
Speaking of legal entities, Rogue Traders happen to be answerable to the Emperor alone -- and, technically, the High Lords of Terra, since they interpret his will. Other than that august body, we're golden. There are a lot of people on this planet that are legally entitled to do what they please. That's not going to save Damaris, though.

Anatazya is with the Governor in his private chambers (or something similar). Mr Alexander has departed from there and is currently at large.
Luff and Sigma are at the AM stronghold, hopefully about to speak with their head honcho (whom I still want to ask for a holy Solo-Bolter dagnabbit).
Carlyle and Victris are on the porch, chatting and smoking, though Victris is about to head inside to meet Ulrich who has found himself a lounge.
General Dante, Elisabeth Orleans and Trader Blitz were last seen in the meetingroom with the holo, cooking up Emperor knows what mischief together.
Captain Locke is probably headed back for her ship to assume overall command of the fleet.
Sigma has a good chance to turning the AM over to support us, if he can find out what the locals want.
Me and Ulrich stand a decent chance at swaying Locke who already seems a bit favorable to our cause.
The Governor is already practically eating out of Anatazya's hand but I believe she is also the one best suited to approach the two traders, either driving a wedge between them or making them fall into line. The key there is likely Blitz as Orleans will already be wanting to protect her investment, with Tazya scooping up everything else of value on the planet there will be precious little over. Oh, and they could be plotting to trick us out of a reward completely as well, can't disregard that.
The general will be tricky, Luff was our best starting bet but he is not in good favour so far, we may need to use Carlyle as a blunt instrument to crack that one open. If he were to take power I'm not sure that Tazya's deal would be honored so I am in favor of the old smoking guy.
What Alexander is up to or could provide, nobody knows.
Same thing with the Bishop but Ulrich and/or Victris is probably a good bet there too.
Other powerbrokers remain to be seen, there should be a couple of Astropaths around somewhere but I doubt that they are as functional as Carlyle but perhaps they could be put to some use.
Not sure I've summed everything up but that is my take on the situation so far.
Oh, and I wouldn't trust that 10day margin too far. It could start raining Rokks at any time as far as I know. We might want to put at least the mechanized elements of the Phoenix Wing on the ground soon, they're no use as boarding parties. Perhaps stationing them in the Palace for convenience? :)
(whom I still want to ask for a holy Solo-Bolter dagnabbit).
"The "solo" is a bolter variant looked down on as heretical by some elements of the Adeptus Mechanicus."
I don't advise calling it holy.
EDIT: As for the General, I'll speak with him. Between the "who is going to get your people off-world if it looks like we're going to lose or if we decide to just not fight?" and "don't you want to be governor?" angles, we should be able to speak with him on the matter and turn him to our side. There's some party being held apparently, so I'll speak with him there, probably. And since I'll be back with the party, I can start giving bonuses again. Hooray!

Sorry about failing to win over the general, but I just got such bad dice.
I'm going to try and win over the AM, along with Sigma. The Magos at least knows who I am, and I've been nothing but respectful towards him and the Omnissiah. Also passed a Charm test for him, whatever that may count for.

I know! Thus the smilies! If either of us felt genuine enmity towards each other, I don't think we'd be in as many games together as we are...
I think, for the sake of the party, I might need Luff and Ulrich to help with Charm tests. I believe both are trained in it? Ulrich has the higher charm test, admittedly, so we may want to both Assist him and I'll give him the +10 from Exceptional Leader... and he has Peer (Military), I think.
So we ought to be able to sway the General to our side, even though Luff will be there. Actually, I think his presence might be an overall boon -- he'll be in far less imposing garb than he is now, and Luff can apologize to the General for his earlier actions. If Luff tells Taz the exact wording of the General's dismissal, she can play that up a bit in order to show the General that he's the one in charge. Being in command is a big part of machismo, so being one-upped by a woman would probably be the worst thing that could happen here.
So yes, I think we can salvage the General. Presuming he's at the party, of course.
