Curses sleep again, every damn character is made to sleep prior to the embrace.
Well that did not go how she wanted at all.
Her intention was that if the girl was unmarked she would have offered her a job in Venice but made it should terrible so that she would ask for the whip and understand her mistresses kindness and mercy so that she would do better ... then to whip her conscience clean (from Isabella's warped perspective as she had requested it), and whipped her underarm so that the scars would be unseen.
Now she is angry and feels she is surrounded by Satanists and that her own soul is already damned ... less polite manipulator and more everyone must die horribly ... I have not decided if I want her to get over it or not ... if not then she could become a very messed up person.

Help me set the stage, ST. Is this castle built around the idea of defense or ornamentation? In the case of the former, it would be fair to assume arrow slits and murder holes are the only points of access from the outside, but if the castle is built more as a rich dilletante's idea of a keep, an intrepid climber might be able to look into rooms from the outside through a window.

I'd say it's built more for defense sadly.(Really intimidation) Sneaking up on him will be a challenge and there's few windows. Since he's mingling in public Andrei will more or less be able to see him the entire time, so he has time to plan when and how he'll attempt to reach him.
As a matter of interest how are we dealing with specialities an extra dice on a 10 to roll or two successes.
If it is two successes does a dice roll of a one cancel the ten and thereby both successes, or does it cancel the success and leave a single success behind?
Pity/Fortunate that Seth and Isabella's position was not reversed, I might be able to see her killing a cat for the right reward, and could see Seth whipping a servant at the masters direction - as a senior servant he might have done so before.
I'd say specialties count 10's as two successes. Any 1's do not cancel the 10, just one of the two successes. If you got 10, 1, and 1, you'd have no successes, but if you got 10, 1, and 4, you'd still have one left.
And I have to admit, I truly thought Isabella was going to whip the servant. She and Jadviga might get off on a bit of a bumpy road.

Specialties
Some characters are especially good at particular applications of their Traits. For example, a mechanic might be particularly good with muscle cars, a thief might excel at breaking and entering, or a brawler might be infamous as a dirty fighter. To represent this, characters with ratings of 4 or higher in Attributes or Abilities may choose specialties for those Traits. A specialty is a particular subcategory of an Attribute or Ability — thus, a character with a Strength 5 might choose to be especially adept in deadlifting, while a character with Performance 4 might be renowned for her singing. Whenever a player makes a die roll involving an activity in which her character has specialized, she may count any die that comes up “10” as two successes instead of just one.
So by that book its straight two for one. (Also interestingly VtM20 removes any means except by 4+ dots for specialties
While the Botches section has:
Quote:
Bad luck can ruin anything. One more basic of a roll is a “botch.” Whenever one of the dice comes up as a 1, it cancels out a success. Completely. Take the die showing 1 and one of the dice showing a success and set them aside. In this manner, an otherwise successful action may be reduced to failure.
While they say to set the dice aside I think this is strictly more book keeping advice. By the process though you are judging success first so your 10 would be 2 successes thus you'd only then cancel one.
And I have to admit, I truly thought Isabella was going to whip the servant. She and Jadviga might get off on a bit of a bumpy road.
She read the situation wrong, she figured the woman was actually looking for evidence of potential leadership ability and so she tried to approach it rationally to gain respect and not be seen as simply a base servant who would beat another servant on command.
Then when she saw the scars she followed on with her initial assumption and indicated that the exercise was pointless and that a leader would cut their losses and expel the servant ... while still wanting to show that she was calm and rational about it.
Her failure here was think about the words and not the person had she known that Jadviga simply wanted a show, a sadist getting enjoyment from the pain of others Isabella would not have enjoyed it but she could have rationalised it as a perverse form of foreplay.
Instead at this point she say exactly what was going on when the servant got the whip and tried to backtrack by being demanding and she would have flogged the servant bloody at that time for daring to approach her (and in her mindset after being dominated likely would have struck at Jadviga also).
The pain drove her temporally mad with rage and pain and so behaved almost randomly forgiving the servant out of spite for her mistress one second and then attempting to kill everyone including herself in the next, and then giving into pure rage before being taken out of it.
Spoiler
Though I did like the serene calm where she lied to the guards about her intentions - I almost made a manipulation + subterfuge roll for that which could have been interesting.

Edit: yea that probably would not have worked.

Benghi isn't that smart, and doesn't know a whole lot of occult or HW, generally what supernatural things may he be aware of?
Also, btw, any idea how Dimitra looks, and if he can see the outline of what is under the cloak (including such things as weapons)? Here's a per+alertness

I would say that the likely problem would not be the being aware of what is out there it would be being able to filter through it and get something reasonable.
I heard that vampires can turn into animals > werewolves can turn into animals > vampires are werewolves > werewolves only transform during a full moon and hid normally the rest of the time > the moon is the enemy of the sun > therefore vampires are afraid of sunlight!
Of course!
But you would be lucky to get something that useful by following a path like that.
If you want you could roll hearth wisdom (with a plus 2 difficulty if you do not have it) and see what Dark Seeker lets you know you might consider in this scene for her.
I for example have decided that Isabella thinks Jadviga is a witch because it is the first thing she would consider when confronted with magic ... and what do witch's weigh the same as? and do we do with woman if they weigh the same?.
That doesn't help with the ubiquity of such legends, mind, but at least you'll have a better idea of what Benghi might know.
Quote:
In Hungarian and Balkan mythology, many werewolves were said to be vampiric witches who became wolves in order to suck the blood of men born under the full moon in order to preserve their health.
She is a witch, a werewolf and a vampire I tells ya.
dancrilis is correct. Benghi would probably know old wives tales and common myths, as well as most myths pertaining to the sea. None of which would help him much with Dimitra. Not that it appears he needs any help.
The scene was supposed to end with her terrorizing Benghi, catching him easily and tormenting him to run faster and faster to escape her. Instead it may end with him bedding her. Between her and Casmir failing his first spell, these powerful elders are kinda having a rough day.

A supernatural trifecta!
Fun fact: Vlad the Impaler is only twelve years old in the game world.
EDIT: Go, McStabbington! You show that elder who's the stealthiest!
EDIT2: Some math for Thundercracker/Dark Seeker. The average coffin contains ~890 liters of air (818 for the air displaced by Seth and the cat), while the average human breathes 6 liters/minute. If Seth can stay calm (by beating this next check), he'll have air for 136 minutes (perhaps less, as CO2 poisoning kills faster than oxygen deprivation). The cat will breathe about 2 liters/minute, and their aggregate respiration will leave 102 minutes of air.
Thanks for the math Nyarai. Nice to know that if I'm ever in a coffin i won't die right away. Or that might be worse. Well, whichever.
And yes, I confess I was hoping Seth would refuse Amisa's offers so I could have the cat be all cute. Maybe Seth's first ghoul?
And Thundercracker, normally I'd say no willpower after the roll, but since this is very much a test of willpower, go ahead and spend a point not to freak out.
Seth doesn't have anything against the cat, but he very much didn't want to be buried alive. I like the idea of npc'ing the cat, so maybe he'll pick up animalism at some point. It's not a clan discipline though, so it'd be tough.
Edit: Actually, I'm more and more liking the idea of making a feline friend. Is it possible to take a dot of a non-clan discipline using freebie points?
Edit2: Found the answer in the dark ages core book; I'm going to rearrange my sheet to try and get a point in Animalism.

If we come out of this "alive" and on a more or less friendly manner, I imagine some kind of deals may be done - help me on this and I'll help you on that, and so on.
Edit: And I would have gotten away with you, if it weren't for that meddling earl !
