Hey, did anyone bother to take our weapons (and if yes, how thorough were they) when we came in? Since Andrei has his bow I presume we weren't considered dangerous enough, but I'd like to know just what can Benghi currently have on him.

I believe that this is now dominate and that your sire to be wants to demonstrate power over you by simple imposing his will upon you directly.
Eight is therefore likely your willpower or your current willpower (if different and depending on which is used).
Of that is my reading of the scene anyway.
Well doesn't quite fit the Dominate powers either... well not VtM20's description and the first Giovanni Chronicles are pre-revised VtM anyways.
I'm personally totally open to being just plain railroaded anyways. Our sires can always be sporting their own custom powers anyways... for that matter so can we eventually.

I am not to sure about the the command 'plunge your head into the water' seems fine for the level 2 dominate power.
You could argue that then the 'I want you to' part should not have been in italics in that case, put I would regard it as nitpicky, and not a form of railroading (after all Dark Seeker is actually rolling for his vampires rather then just having them win ... and the rolls are more character focused rather then moving the plot in a direction away from the players intentions).
But to each their own.

Yeah it was a mesmerize. My reading of the power description led me to think it would work. In Casmir's mind, Adam resisted his corruption magic(because one as great as he could never fail in casting a spell) So he switched to dominate. It's all black magic to Adam anyway.
And rolls are big for me. I'm one of those people who hates cut scene incompetence. Even against a vastly more powerful vampire, you all should have a slight chance of resisting their power. It might effect their view of you, and that's important story wise. Had Adam resisted the dominate, Casmir would have probably said "Oh fine" and started moving things around with his mind.
@Shaman, you've all been allowed to keep your weapons. Your esteemed hosts don't actually think you can harm them. And if you actually tried to, good way for them to work up an appetite. Please do keep track on your sheets of what your chars are equipped with though, for future reference.
@BananaPhone, Alenka's scene was one of the most difficult. The character is supposed to remain calm and answer Valdemar's questions which... just about no one would. These scenes have diverging difficulty. The worst is probably Amisa's. Had Seth killed the cat, Amisa would have asked him to bury a prisoner alive. If he did that, she'd have wanted him to get in a coffin and allow himself to be buried alive. I can't see many characters agreeing to that. On the flip side, you have the Brujah's scene, which consists of them being asked if they hate nobles. If they agree, they trash a room of the Earl's estate. That's it.
Sorry for the long rant, bit annoying to me. I'll finish Adam's prologue up soonish and then get to work on the next part of the story. Thanks for sticking with me everyone!
Hi Dark Seeker I hope I am not making Isabella come across as overly difficult here, she is out of her depth and as such feel the best method to deal with this is to leave and return to her depth.
I am also imagining that she was hit hundreds of times as Jadviga looked on in glee, and as that level of whipping could kill a person either during or after due to injuries I am picturing her survival as less then certain at this point ... which she would not know all she has is still fresh wounds which have not sealed an are still running slowly and painfully.
Edit: In fact I would kind of like her to collapse from blood-loss at some point possibly prompting the embrace.

Take care Nyarai. I've been fortunate so far, but hard to say if that will continue.
dancrilis, no worries. I think Isabella would be wanting to leave the party at this point. She's not fatally wounded. For all her flaws, Jadviga knows how to direct her servants to cause non life threatening wounds. Sadly, the Earl does not appear willing to let any of you leave until dinner is over.
Yeah even the simplest display of Obtenerbration, Shadow Play, requires mortals to make Courage rolls at difficulty 8 due to how terrifying it's supposed to be to the mind. It's a manifestation of the hellish abyss anyway. Alenka's got courage 4, but even I don't see anyone not priorly exposed remaining calm and answering questions normally under those conditions.

Hundreds of times would be fatal. For a fairly good idea of what lashes can do to a person, here's a link to a scene from an Australian Western called The Proposition, where a young, mentally-handicapped child is whipped. It should be clear from the scene that even ten lashes is a vicious, vicious thing to do to a person.
The book says Jadviga orders the servant whipped for twenty minutes, which I found a bit excessive, since the girl is supposed to survive. It suggested Isabella should only be injured. I'm more inclined to say wounded. It won't really matter in a few posts, but I'd say Isabella's not mortally wounded, but she probably is having a rough time sitting against the chair.
Well wiki* was saying thousands but it really depends on the whipping implement.
For those wondering while Isabella is preaching and thinks she has seen the light, in reality she is just being spiteful and angry under a guise of piety.
She will likely be quick to put that behind her once she has less immediate enemies who have personally hurt her.
In case a fight breaks out and we have a weapon reasonably close, is it a separate action (and a dicepool split) to draw it or do we just proceed to attack, maybe with a slight penalty? Because right now there is one fairly twitchy Genoese at that table .

According to the Dark Ages book drawing on it's own can be done unimpeded (it does not require a roll).
Drawing and attacking requires multiple actions and in this case the drawing is a Dexterity + (combat ability) roll at Diff 4.
Failure means you still draw and fight, but you fight at initiative one.
Standard botching rules apply (namely that the storyteller tells you how you messed up).
@MostRecentRoll YEEEEES. The crazy hand is with me still!
@BananaPhone: He's actually insulting our sires.
@dancrilis: The more lashes are delivered, the higher chance of laceration to Isabella's liver, spleen, or kidneys due to impact. Even if she survived "hundreds" of lashes, she probably wouldn't be able to walk, and certainly not move her arms. She could wind up permanently crippled.
A triple-digit number of lashes is a de facto death sentence, not a corrective measure. Plus, I don't think the servant's arm would hold out for that long. I'd say Isabella received no more than fifty lashes, and maybe a whole lot less.
Well that worked out better then I thought it would ... go Isabella, she might never achieve anything even remotely as nice as scaring thirteen 6th generation Kindred again in full view of all their support staff and there prospective childer.
Just spent day in the hospital in relation to a issue with my own health, so while it should not impact my posting schedule it may impact by writing as it was not a pleasant experience.
Yes I know in character should not be affected by out of character issues, but when your mind is on something it can seep in ... just a heads up in case Isabella starts to act even more erratic.
Well, now that Isabella has provided us with such a fine distraction, I think Benghi will try to have something close at hand, too. After all, an assault here is a very understandable reason for blades to be drawn... although he'll try to make sure his isn't quite as visible. I imagine that, if nothing else, the difficulty for us to do something like that without attracting notice will be lower?
Dexterity+stealth: (6d10)[6][7][7][5][7][3](35)

. . .Well, I wish that drama had serviced probability as would a back-alley harlot, but whiffing utterly is about par for my luck. I suppose it's a consolation that it might serve as character development.
If Earl Giovanni doesn't rip me to shreds, of course.
Andrei just tried to assassinate the hell out of a much more powerful noble while surrounded by the enemy. If Bazajet's not impressed, something's gone terribly awry.
By the way, Stabbs, that was beautifully written. If only Luca could have loaned you a cup of 10s.
Steven King had more to do with it than I did, but I'll accept your approval for working it in. The creed of the Gunslinger seemed totally appropriate for Andrei.

I actually recognized that bit from Dr. McNinja, but I was referring to everything else as well.
You all are doing wonderfully. I have to admit, I was sort of tempted to throw the game out the window, let you all kill your captives, and then ask "anyone up for hunter?" That would be interesting.
Sorry if this part's a little railroady. Things should open up some soon.
Thundercracker, I admit your last post made me laugh. Probably what I would hope to end up doing.
