In your position I'd be inclined to go for the SPP, especially as, unless you do really well on the rolls, you should still be able to hire Moranion or Rakarth (or equivalent star/mercs) with the regular inducement money anyway and, as you say, the SPPs are more useful as an investment given that the team are underdogs this week anyway (but then, the Sabres don't seem to cope well with being overdogs).

On the other hand, it seems the AI tends to focus on bringing down star players where possible in preference to regulars, so a bonus star might help to protect the team from injury, if you're worried about that. I suspect that deploying two stars helped Die Valkyrie in that respect.

Injury soak would be the only reason I would take a star over the SPP. Morg n' Thorg can take a hilarious amount of abuse.

As for gambling, I am looking at the Plagues/Heroes match, and the MKB/Rivermen match, and it doesn't look good for MKB and the Heroes.

I am offering 3 to 1 odds on the Heroes. I don't see them keeping up with the Plagues on offense. Also a whopping 4 to 1 odds on MAIM KILL BURN. Frenzy is going to be the downfall of MKB against a team with so much more strength.
