Name: Sythius Dinevidan
Description: 1.9m, 120 kg
Career Path: Arch Militant
Home World: Fortress World
Birthright: Stubjack
Lure of the Void: Crusade (Call to War)
Trials and Travails: Hand of War (Ashes of War)
Motivation: Exhileration (The Thrill of War)
Constant Combat Training - -5 to social test for non-combat topics.
Weapon Master (Las) - 10% bonus to hit, +2 damage, +2 initiative when using this type of weapon in combat
Background:
Spoiler
Sythius was born on the Fortress World known simply as Bastion Secundus, a world built near the Maelstrom to contain the vicious forces of Chaos that lurk within, and the piratical Orks that are never far away from the sector. Like everyone else born there, he was conscripted as soon as he came of age and made to work in the Imperial Guard. He regularly fought against piratical Astartes, Orks, cultists, and mutants, and to this day maintains a great hatred for all things Chaotic and Orkish. It was during this time that he became a heavy weapons specialist, using his power armor and lascannon to take down the heretical Astartes of the Night Lords. He came to find that he frankly really liked war, becoming bored in prolonged periods of peace. After many long years of service, he was granted an honorable discharge when his term had expired. He tried a peaceful retirement, but found that it wasn't to his taste, and he left the confines of the world he had settled on to journey with Rogue Traders in search of more enemies to fight and kill.
Personality:
Spoiler
Simply put, Sythius really likes fighting and killing. The thrill of danger, the rush of adrenaline, the sounds of weapons discharge, the feel of the recoil in his hands, and the triumph when standing atop a foe's corpse. War what he was born to and what he does best. He can hardly imagine a life without war. When not fighting, he can usually be found reading books about the theories and history of war, cleaning or practicing with his weapons, or exercising. During prolonged periods of peace, he begins to grow bored a restless, seeking something to fight and kill. As befits his birth and training, he is harshly disciplined and looks down on any signs of idleness or frivolity. Inactivity is anathema to him, as is being parted from his beloved guns.
His quarters aboard ship reflects this obsession with war and violence. It is painted a harsh silver-grey, his favorite color. For the most part, the quarters is Spartan, containing little in personal comforts, which he sees as marks of weakness. His bed is basic, and not terribly soft. He has a shelf containing numerous rare and expensive treatises and histories of war in the Imperium. He also has numerous weapons in the room, some concealed, some not. He also has several trophies from his many kills scattered throughout the quarters. His most beloved trophy is the slightly-burnt helmet of a Night Lord, whose torso he vaporized with his lascannon.
Sythius' first sapient kill was a mutant being hurled at his squad as cannon fodder by the Night Lords. He killed it simply because he was trained and told to do so, and found he greatly enjoyed the experience.
The most noteworthy person in Sythius life was his now-dead training sergeant, who taught him all about war and killing. He was shot in the head by the same Night Lord who's helm now adorns Sythius' wall.
Sythius does not truly have a best friend, lacking as he does much of a concept of life beyond war. He has never sought more than comrades-in-arms, and never had any more.
The most beautiful thing Sythius has ever seen is an Imperator Titan crushing hundreds of mutant scum to death beneath its mighty heel.
Wish List:
Spoiler
2x Hellpistols
Filament Grenades
Conversion Field
Autosenses upgrade for my helmet
Preysense upgrade for my helmet
Sythius will speak in glorious Slate Grey.

A plucky woman with a mind for numbers, Fiona Sasha Derishcov encountered the Rogue Trader when she was nineteen, just as he began his journey to make back the money for his father's 'bet' of sorts. Adept at blending in to crowds when necessary, and knowing enough of the lingo to pass herself off as someone of some significance with the Adeptus Arbites, Houses of Mercantile, various militaries, noble houses and the seediest parts of the underworld, Fiona helped the Trader with her commercial skills enough to warrant her becoming his seneschal.

I say go for it :) introduce yourselves, enter the room, or already be sitting down looking bored, whatever floats your boat. You might have already heard some of what this meeting is going to be about through the grapevine, but keep it simple, so the captain can put on his captain hat and do his captain thing, and Zerah can be all tech-priesty and... talk to calculators and keep the engines running, or whatever it is those funny people do.
I'll let you guys take the lead on describing your own ship unless I desperately need to have something dramatic take place in a service corridor or something later.

Why do you do what you do? The creation of 6 generations of planned genetic intermarrying and genetic tinkering Haddon is one of the new bredd of Cassini Navis. His heritage surviving the House Chorda purge he harbours a hatred of them but a deep love of the unknown. The concept of trading or plying the well known and stable warp routes of the Solear Segtumn is like a mind numbing ennui.
He left the arched and vaulted palaces of the Cassini compound on Scintilla 8 years ago joining the 5th Calix Fleet ad discovering the expanse beyond the Maw. Sadly for him his wanderlust was not conducive to good Naval service and after beging forced by a Captain Elizabeth Locke to serve out his 5 year contract he was soon rid of her and glad to sign on with the most adventurous Rogue Trader that he could find.
When you attained your current rank and privileged position on the ship, you were provided with living quarters, about the size of a suite, both to live in and to store your personal possessions. They were mostly unfurnished. What do they look like now? What items do they contain?
The Navis quarters are large. As befitting his station they are more like a small village amidst the bustling city of the ship. Along with Lord Haddon have come his sisters Erika and Xanthus - both his juniors and proximie Warp Guides and a large staff of House Cassini retainers to both serve, adminster and protect them.
The quarters are finely appointed. Rich thick carpets and heavy dark wood panelling covered in tapestries depicting House Cassini's finest moments and some of its Navis's impression of immaterium. The sounds are muted and lights always dim and tinted red with the heavy smell of cedar and other incense in the air. A faint orchestral music always playing in the background to mask most of the mechanical ship noises. In his private quarters are more maps and charts of the warp routes around the sector drawn by his hand. The vellum scrolls aged and heavy on the walls. In a sealed vault he has his two most precious possessions. His amanac of House Cassini listing all of the house's greatest secrets and even more rare a rare set of charts. The dark mark of House Norstromo on the elseway charts. How he came to have them he never answers but merely smiles a mysterious smile, ignoring the thick red almost hand shaped stain on the cover.
The servants move about quietly, all hooded and cowled in the orange and black of House Cassini all quiet and self effacing. Even the guards are quiet in dark Carapace armour with heavy oranate mono-blades and antique looking handcannons at their waists to protect the Navis nobility.
Inside the heart of the Navis quarters lies the Navis Throne. A quiet coffin shaped pod in a larger room devoid of light, noise or any stimuli. Merely the techno-coffin festooned with sockets and plugs and bio-mechancial interfaces. The room linked to the bridge by hundreds of heavy data cables, vox links and other circuitry. The doors to the chamber surprising thick with emergency controls both within and without to protect the occupant or the ship...
What was the first sapient being you killed? Why did you do it? How do you feel about it?
Lord Haddon personally has never killed any sentient creature. The threat of the warp eye and his status and value enough to gurantee his safety. Indirectly he has caused the deaths of thousands. A warp storm missed, a shoal of reality hit and a flicker in a geller field as demons flood aboard... Though none weigh on his mind as all were merely part of the risks of traversing the great ocean of the immaterium..
Describe the most important, personally noteworthy person in your life.
Novatar Tiberius of House Cassini is the most important personage in the Clan and therefore his life. The guiding force leading the great rebuilding effort of House Cassini. His hand guided the genetics that led to Haddon's birth and he has been instrumental in furthering the the young Haddon's career as a possible rising star of the House
Who is your best friend? Unusally for a Navis his best friend is not a Navigator. Iacton is one of the guards sent to ensure his safety but of an age with Haddon he is a comforting rock that Haddon can confide in and touchstone that reminds him of the worth in the general populace of humanity. He would go to great lengths to ensure the safety of his friend and their late night talks of philosophy, the Creed and other mildly heretical topics. Both of them slightly radical free thinkers as only the young and privileged can be but both secure in the loyalty of their friend.
What is the most beautiful thing that you have ever perceived? The rolling warp. The magnificent swirl of the immaterium and the half glimpsed creatures within are an object of fascination to the young Navis.
Nothing however grips him so much as the Maw with the colossal towering storms of the Void Dancers Roll and the Screaming Vortex- storms of such magnitude that only greatest forces in the Galaxy could have unleashed such fury. And what could lie within those incredible depths...

I thought you had chosen ork and chaos, so that you wouldn't be constantly at odds with the crew. I see now that I'm wrong.
I suppose I can change it to Orks. I just thought it was thematically appropriate.
I didn't do that originally because I thought we'd be having an Ork player.
Edit: Ok, I now hate Orks. Sorry about that, I honestly kinda forgot I had that until you reminded me. Meant to change it after the guy who was playing an Ork dropped out, but forgot to.

I thought you had mentioned it afterwards, but a quick check of the thread showed that it was beforehand. That whole 'make a willpower check or attack' is great, until it applies to a crew member. Hating Chaos is totally fine, though. If we have a devotee of Chaos on board, I'm pretty sure that's a weapons-free situation.

I thought we all knew about the guncutter/auction but just had no idea about the satellite as a site for secret auctions in Footfall.
Quote:
"Only Sythius Dinevidan, Lucius Jonathan Mealstrom, and Fiona Derishcov knew about this satellite before the guncutter auction came to light. "
I read that as we all knew about the Guncutter but I've no idea about this strange secret auction place?
@Henry:-
Its a nervous tick for the Navigator. The warp calms. him
At least Navigators are acceptable and vital mutants in the Imperium! You want to go into the warp you can choose treating with demons or a navigator... Chaos or Mutants in fact

Or the use of mechanics. We could outfit the ship to make 17-45 day trips without ever making a Navigate (Warp) check. The wonders of archeotech.
The satellite is the source of the signal. The only people who knew about the signal, to my understanding, were those three. Judging by the final line of the first paragraph in the spoiler tag, our captain knew about the satellite (and thus, the signal) because of Fiona's telling him. That said, if the captain told everyone about it over the vox after calling for a meeting, then yes, everyone would know about it. It's not anything particularly important, I just like to segregate OOC and IC knowledge as best I can.
If Sly could clarify what he meant, it would answer this (at this point purely academic) question. Until then, it really has no effect on the situation.

Just hope we don't have any dealings with Orks then.
If there's a Chaos worshiper on board, imma firin mah lazorz.

Do you know where the worst place to be born is, for one who's curious about machines and technology? On a highly dedicated shrine world, naturally. Zerah spent her first five years amid endless cathedrals and crowds of the faithful, but her attention was always drawn elsewhere and curiousty grew about the strange 'metal men' that kept to their private enclaves and were never openly spoken of. When she tried, she was flogged and beaten.
It didn't truly dissaude her though, and the choice was finally made to place her on a pilgrim vessel, where she would hopefully find understanding of the God Emperor or be burnt as one cursed. That got her attention and she pretended dedication as best as she could, all while seeking a form of escape. She finally found and learnt that despite all their claims, the white robed priests needed tech priests. Her entry into the Aeptus Mechanius was unconvential, to say the least. Zerah posed as one of their low ranking adepts, and managed to pick skills up fast enough to avoid drawing too much attention right away.
When she was finally discovered, the tech priests laid claim to her and she was selected for training, much to the anger of her parents and the priesthood, who vowed she'd one day pay for her sins.
However, she found out that she was almost as much a misfit for the Adeptus Mechanius as she had been in her former life, far more interested in the practical and not as focused on the theoritical side of things. Consquently, her rank remained low and minor, and when a detachment of tech priests were sent to serve with a Rogue Trader in the Expanse, she followed suit. Offiically to serve as a liasion, but unoffically, to just be kept out from her lecturers' feet.
Why do you do what you do?
Being on the ship itself wasn't truly Zerah's choice, she was assigned there by her superiors in the Adeptus Mechanius. That said, technology itself has drawn her to it since she was a child and there's little she enjoys more then working with machines.
When you attained your current rank and privileged position on the ship, you were provided with living quarters, about the size of a suite, both to live in and to store your personal possessions. They were mostly unfurnished. What do they look like now? What items do they contain?
Zerah's quarters are messy, for lack of a better word. Small devices and trinkets are scattered on every available surface and finding anything can be a real challenge (except for Zerah herself, who seems to know where everything in the room is.)
What was the first sapient being you killed? Why did you do it? How do you feel about it?
While she's been trained in mutiple types of firearms, Zerah's yet to use a weapon in real life combat and hasn't killed anyone.
Describe the most important, personally noteworthy person in your life.
Likely her father, a stern, focused priest of the Eccleshiary. Being spat on by him was not the highpoint of her life.
Who is your best friend?
With her history, forming long lasting friendships has proven difficult for Zerah, but she's currently forming a tentative friendship with Fiona Sasha Derishcov.
What is the most beautiful thing that you have ever perceived?
When she was ten years old, a small, but damaged chrono that she spent several days nursing back to health. She still carries it today.
Sorry im in over my head in birthday parties. 4 people are celebrating this week so I was and am a bit busey attending all those parties, dinners and stuff. I will be free again next monday, but will try to remain up to date and post now and then the next couple days.

Lucius Jonathan Mealstrom

Personality and Background
Spoiler
Name: Lucius Jonathan “LJ” Mealstrom
Gender: Male
Age: 32
Hight: 1.85 m.
Hair: Middle long Brown
Eyes: Green
Family:
Wife: Leah, 28, Long Blond hair, Pregnant. Speaks in Magenta
Daughter: Lucia, 6, Short blond hair. Speaks in Pink
Mother: Janna 54 not on board, probably deceased.
background
LJ was raised by his mother on Jones Cirpsin World. His father died during the War of the Eagle Gate as a commanding officer under Captain Cato. His mother kept him away from anything that had something to do with the empire which took her husband from her. Though she told the young Lucius tales about his father exploring the void and that he promised her to take her far from here where they would have a good life. When LJ grew older he played with his father’s weapons and armor, lunging for great adventures beyond this world.
When LJ was 14 a friend of his father happened to be on the planet as leader of an escort for the transport fleet. Although his mother didn’t want him to become the soldier his father was, she knew his life on this planet would never be enough and she wished for something more for her little boy. LJ joined the crew of John and gained training with guns and weapons. In the years on board the ship he first first aided the surgeons because John though he was too young to fight. Here he learned the basics of first aid for those who were mutilated by deamons or shot during encounters with pirates.
In his childhood he was always close with the daughter of John, Lucia. They were very fond on each other. LJ promised her a live full of wealth and freedom somewhere in the outer borders of space where they could live unconcerned until the end of days. During the training John discovered Lucius was very proficient with the pistol. It didn’t take long or he was to be found in the front lines when they got attacked or boarded by enemy troops during the constant transport of food and water to other hive worlds across the void. Every time he went to battle with the men who had quite some respect for the still young warrior he did it for Lucia, for her safety.
LJ became an adult and learned more about the imperium and its system. He disputed it and felt more and more uncomfortable on the ship with all the soldier and marines who were blindly following what they were told. He wanted freedom and to be away from anything. It was a hard decision to make but his feeling told him he had to go.
He joined several ships and even enrolled on a pirate ship. Here he learned to be an commanding officer and eventually came across a cargo ship ready to be plundered. When Lucius entered the ship they surprisingly were better equipped than he had foreseen and the was captured by the same John who took him on board when he was a little boy. Normally he would be delivered to the officials, but Lucia who had became a beautiful woman, begged her father for his freedom. Eventually he gave in and swore never to be involved with heresy again.
Again he was on board of a imperial battleship, but this time it was different. He was in love with the beautiful Lucia and she with him. He became an official officer on board and worked for John a couple of years in which Lucia gave him a daughter, until he again was called by the stars beyond the edge of the void. Lucia still full of the stories and promises he made her followed him and together they signed on the most adventurous roguetrader ship they could find.
Why do you do what you do?
Everything he does is for his wife and child. He wants a good life for them away from the iron grip of the empire. Away from the hard life on the hive plantes. He wants to explore new worlds and to be known, unlike his father who died nameless in one of the thousands battles in service of the emperor.
When you attained your current rank and privileged position on the ship, you were provided with living quarters, about the size of a suite, both to live in and to store your personal possessions. They were mostly unfurnished. What do they look like now? What items do they contain?
It looks like a simple house. It is clean and toys lay on the ground. Lucia probably sits on the couch reading a book while Janna plays around or learns to read. It is decorated with nice colours and paintings. There are two rooms with beds. Lucius very much likes to be in his quarters with his Lucia and his sweet Janna, But he is also very dedicated to his work and the crew of the ship. Finally he feels at home, because they can go wherever they want.
What was the first sapient being you killed? Why did you do it? How do you feel about it?
The first one killed would probably a pirate and human. Though he wasn’t his victim die. As gunner he just shot the enemy vessel. Furthermore he has killed countless man and deamons, never out of pleasure. He is not proud of killing other living beings, but sees it as part of life. When two fight, one has to die for the other to live. This way he also has no problem with mutants for as far he has seen any of them. Life is life and sometimes you have to take it to protect your own or that of your loved ones.
Describe the most important, personally noteworthy person in your life.
Lucia is definitely the most important person in his life. He would do anything for her and the little Janna. Other important people in his life are the crewmembers. They are his comrades and friends and he will do everything he can to protect them, but he is unforgiving when it comes to treason or anything like it for he has experienced the disappointment of his mentor John and sees it as a huge crime.
Who is your best friend?
..anyone of the crew..if he/she would like this as wel.
What is the most beautiful thing that you have ever perceived?
The medal his mother gave him. It is a sign of gratitude from the empire for the life of his father. He carries it with him and with it his anger and sorrow which this corrupt system forced upon mankind.

Joshua Gethsemane does what he does to regain his faith. He stopped truly believing in the Emperor on Luggnum, where he saw dozens of his fellow Arbitrators die horribly.
He has developed unorthodox religious beliefs in his travels, and hopes to learn more of the Imperial Truth. He is now harsh at times, and accepting at other times.
When you attained your current rank and privileged position on the ship, you were provided with living quarters, about the size of a suite, both to live in and to store your personal possessions. They were mostly unfurnished. What do they look like now? What items do they contain?
His room is largely spartan, although it contains many books, largely historical and religious tomes, as well as choice excerpts from the Lex Imperialis. His arms are not left lying around in his quarters, they are always on his person.
What was the first sapient being you killed? Why did you do it? How do you feel about it?
He killed various heretics and witches on Luggnum, during the Red Vaults massacre. He also had to put a bullet through his commanding officer's skull for failing in his duties, but this was largely classified.
Describe the most important, personally noteworthy person in your life.
Judge Redgrave is important, as he is the one who signed Gethsemane off honourably from the Arbites for 'mental health reasons' after what he witnessed in those blasted mines. This allowed him to sign on to the Rogue Trader's crew as an officer, thanks to the medals and commendations he had earned as a lawman.
However, more important is the Red Countess, Synderfell, the heretic that escaped after murdering his comrades.
Who is your best friend?
Regulator April Shotts. She is, of course, dead. Joshua doesn't speak of it. It was particularly horrific.
What is the most beautiful thing that you have ever perceived?
The Cathedral of Drusus the Martyr on Maccabeus Quintus, Joshua's homeworld. However, he has sour memories of it, seeing it as wasting the Emperor's resources on pointless gilt and gemstones for lazy clerics, instead of using them to reward the active servants of the Imperium or, of course, using them to make arms.

If so, yes. I have Hatred (Chaos). Also, even if I didn't, worshiping Chaos is a spectacularly bad idea and will result in much *blam*-ing from me before they do something spectacularly stupid like summoning a daemon or opening a Warp portal.

Yeah, mutants, my character can accept, he's remarkably tolerant for a former Arbitrator Arch-Militant.
Chaos worshipper? That's one way to get your entire family shot for heresy. Just a heads-up setting-wise. Tolerance is remarkably unusual, and Chaos s the Great Enemy. Occasionally, you'll find a Rogue Trader's vessel where this is allowed, but they are the exception, not the rule.

Or the use of mechanics. We could outfit the ship to make 17-45 day trips without ever making a Navigate (Warp) check. The wonders of archeotech.
Not that it matters, but I'm not sure that combination/exploit is "canon", really. I've never read anything that says "prelonged trips through the warp are ever only possible with a navigator... or with an AdMech device and a combination of installed systems to increase it's effectiveness". If we roll with it as working as written in this setting, I'd be inclined to go with it as something that someone's never thought of or attempted before, and might require tech knowledge to even know of the separate obscure components that make it possible.

I was kind of vague about it. Originally I was going to assume everyone knew, but at the last minute changed it so the captain could brief you all. I settled for saying that some or all of you may know roughly what this briefing is about through the grapevine, but only a few of you with the relevant skills had pre-existing knowledge about Troika-Sigma-445. The captain was probably then told by Fiona, and someone probably told Zerah the basics of the origin of the vox-voice she was playing around with.
In future I'm going to be more specific about who knows what, but I didn't want confusion early on, if I only PM'ed half the group the satellite story.
Edit: Also, I think he was probably kidding about his wife the daemon-worshipper.

It might be viewed as a minor tech-heresy... but could be possible. It's what the Tau do after all. Short jumps, only skimming the warp is their thing, unless I'm reading this wrong?
Also, where is Gethsemane? I can see him signing on to the crew here, wanting to assist the Captain in punishing the Eldar, or getting back on his feet.
