Thought it would be rather fitting to attempt that. Showing that Mithril, while she does need support can handle herself in a fight.

I think this encounter will help her establish her self, at least in her mind, as more capable and more than just a collection of spells. May also let the rest of the group to underestimate her.

Remember guys and girls, it's still daylight, and Shiny was supplied with and relayed information stating that if the alarm was sounded, two small(~6 Orc) groups would likley come out to investigate the threat before they were entirely mobilized. It's not like 60 Orcs are about to come spilling out. At least, not until they realize what kind of threat there is.

And we are full health and still have a couple of spells left.

What's the worst that could happen???

You had to say that, Zman. And I was wondering how many would come out. I think we can handle two groups of six.

Remember, I treat things as more fluid. So where you guys are, where the dead Orcs are, etc, it all changes what's going to happen and how the Orcs react. I didn't expect this start to the Orc caves, that is for sure!

I was expecting more the dive in and go for it approach, if it gets to bad, run for the hills. A little more hero, less caution. Of course I'm adapting to you guys. Just means things take longe, enemies may be a bit smarter, etc. A little less Chinese checkers and more chess.


And if you want to see both entrences you'll need a set of wings.

Damn, we're still a few levels short. Any high ground around here? And Zman? In the previous game before we had you assigned as our new DM, we were so paranoid about a potentially trapped door that we ended up tying a rope to it and pulling it open from 50 feet away.

The door wasn't trapped.

I read it and thought it was funny. I try to be a bit more realistic in my games, there will be traps, but every door in a dungeon makes little sense.

remenber that by being overly cautious and retreating too early allow the enemy to organize itself and reinforce itself.

I would not mind more heroic feeling myself ....

You ae in a wooded area with underbrush. Higher ground leads you to the secondary entrance, which is in the ridges and more rocky. Lower ground leads to the clearning and main entrance.

I think we should head uphill a bit, but stay close to cover so we can escape quickly if we have to. What do you guys say? Natalia would probably run uphill a bit bit if you guys say otherwise and have a consensus I'll follow you.

Linear Warriors, Quadratic Wizards. Just wait for her to boot her INT score a bit and get her hands on new spells. Oh wait, next level we get a stat boost. Miriam's already dead useful, Shiny will only get better, Natalia's going to get a pretty good bump once she gets Daring Outlaw and doubles her Sneak Attack output, and the moment Mithril gets her hands on good spells... Valen and Kurt are good, but like Natalia they're limited to stab the guy with something point and made of metal.

Believe me, I'm not knocking Valen and Kurt at all.

We might have dived in if there hadn't been an orc to interrogate. We were about to go in before they found us!

In any case I think we should move as a group towards one entrance and then shoot and charge as a group when we see the first group of orcs. Keep in mind, they might be comign gfrom both sides - hanging back might end up with you

But if we take the higher ground we'll have 12 orcs to deal with straight away instead of getting the chance to take out the first 6 quickly. We should take the fight to them, in this case.
