Well, don't put them in front of Kurt, he's going to shoot, let Miriam make him big and then charge.
We don't know if they're all barbarians - or even if any of them are. Rage is just one item in our arsenal. And remember, running mightn't make much difference if you run straight into the others!
In any case, I'm going to take the shot now, and assume everyone does as well.
Coffee, of course it's winnable...every combat is. It's just a matter of odds and choices.
I don't think we'd win against a full-grown dragon. I think we should take out the orcs with spears and bows first, then the ones with axes, then the leader.
EDIT: Hang on, I've got 8 vials of spider venom. And that deals 1d6 Str damage, while Natalia uses Dex to hit...
Do you really think Kurt should charge? I think that would put him in a lot of danger while we (especially Miriam the healer) are catching up to him.
We did well against the ogres because we teamed up on them once they approached (Natalia, Valen and Kurt flanking do a lot of damage, and then Shiny can apply color spray as needed). Splitting Kurt off leads to situations more like the dire wolf. (Though splitting a few of them off with a diversion like Valen did last time might work too).
Okay, I need to know how many items you are giving me so I can mark them down properly
EDIT: Also the cloak Natalia put around Mithril's shoulders. My notes don't have marked down what it is and I am having trouble finding the spot.
It's a +1 cloak of resistance.

I think the strategy should be to let them come to us. We fire our (cross)bows at them as they charge, aiming at the less experienced orcs with bows and spears first (get them out of the battle early), then the orcs with hide armor and greataxes, and save the leader for last. Henry and Mithril should hang back and fire their bows at them. Mithril should throw the acid flasks and alchemist fires, and Shiny should join in once he runs out of spells. Shiny or Natalia should chuck a bag of caltrops on the ground to slow the orcs down, and then we need to team up. Maybe Henry should get the +1 magic longsword so he can defend himself if they get closer. Should Natalia poison one of her weapons? I think she should; it's worth a shot.
Seriously though, get the weaker ones first! Cavelcade, what were you doing firing at the larger orc?!
I'm also a bit concerned about the noise above the ridge. Is it the roc, more orcs, or something else?
I don't necessarily agree with Coffee's plan. Letting the biggest and meanest Orcs run around and swing at us while we down the ones least likely to do damage seems a bit silly.... especially since they are the ones that are likely to stay at range.

I figured that hopefully by the time the big mean melee orcs actually get to us, the weaker ranged orcs will be down and the orcs with axes will be down or close.
just a quick hop in to say that Valen has been given the bull strength already.
Thanks much, I'll email you a copy of the map when I can.

OOC Its a cloak of Resistance +1 though you technically do not know that, you know its is faintly abjurative in nature.

Kurt Charging isn't likely the best option as yet.
Sorry, let me reroll for damage. Damn, I really should have applied the poison during the surprise round. I was in a rush and didn't think of it at the moment. But I really think my blade's got to be poisoned; if one of the orcs takes strength damage it'll make things much easier for us.
I hope the thing on the cliffs is the roc. If it swoops down then that'll cut short the fight right thre. I don't think we can handle reinforcements.
No, it took you two actions. Your initiative action is already complete. You can save that shot for next round.
How on earth would you get caltrops out, spread them enough to be effective, all while aiming and firing a crossbow?
That is two actions. Sorry.
And if you did, it would be a -4 penalaty for the off hand with the caltrops they are not a light weapon.
Edit: It takes at least a move action to slather poison on a blade, possibly a standard. You can look it up.
That's why I said to scratch the crossbow shot; I didn't know. I thought I'd be flinging the bag, and then the bag would burst and scatter the caltrops. So I just 86'ed the crossbow shot and made that my action this round, which was why I rerolled. The numbers changed. Frankly I should just delete that whole post.

Why didn't the others get any actions?
Because no one else declared anything that would work and I tried to keep things moving.
Ok then, you took the shot on your Initiative before they all moved up.
Truth be told I forgot about Henry.... I'll have to add him in there somewhere.
Good, we'll need him in the fight. He can fire his bow and maybe use Morton's longsword in melee if he has to, though he should stick to shooting. Definitely stick to shooting. And Mithril and Shiny (once his spells run out) should lob the disposable items; two rounds of 1d6 fire damage will add up.

If the Orcs get to us and we are down to throwing d6 fire at them, they will gut us.
I don't think you get 5' steps in difficult terrain, I will have to look that up.
Edit: You can 5' step in DT.
Also, for Mithril, not being really close is a big big plus. She will need to get her ahnds on a wand of magic missiles(lvl3) or something.
And of course that would have made it hit, right.
But throwing it means--Ah. 10-foot range. Right. Yeah, crossbow might be better then. She really needs to keep her distance, and needs the wand just as badly. Maybe we can put it in a holster and she can fire it like a gun?

You would have had to step in front of Kurt, and your Orders were to stay behind the caltrops.....
