48, surprisingly about what I figured, maybe 3-5 years older. Explains why you run Miriam in such a mature manor, and it also explains your lack of enjoyment for optimization. In the ADnD days things were nepot balance, it was accepted, people generally got over it and got into character and RPed.
I don't know, I'm familiar with AdnD, and 2nd edition, but didn't start RPing until after 3.5 was out. I do know some of the "old school" guys though, and they generally aren't powergamers.

I don't think I'm a powergamer, but I definitely like being effective and versatile, though not to game-breaking extents. Also, I don't really know all the tricks. Or barely any of them.

Enough talk, let's get back to the fight!
No, if you were a power gamer you would be one of a handful of classes, its very difficult to break the game with the classes you've chosen. And if you tried I'd hit you with my giant DM stick like whackamole.
Little do you know that I am currently doing the next turn...

Exactly; there's a difference between being efficient and being completely ****ing broken. I simply have to optimize a bit to be able to keep up with Shiny, Mithril, and Miriam later in the game.
Ooh boy this is gonna be good...Wait, hang on, did I move Natalia for the 5-foot step so I wouldn't have to worry about cover? I just sorta posted and ran to class. Would I hit anyway without the 5-foot step when I rolled a 21?
Question: If one of the orcs steps on a caltrop and stops, and we're standing on a square next to them, do we get an attack of opportunity? And is the first orc veteran down or at 0 HP?

One Orc Veteran is dead, hence the strikethrough.
Its unlikely they will be stepping on the caltrops, as the one that is close is in the middle of fighting Kurt.
Nothing in the rules for Caltrops states anything of the sort, so no.
And Coffee, why are you so interested in the Caltrops, they won't make any practical difference in this fight. They would simply maybe do a 1 of damage, and reduce its movement. It won't make him flatfooted, and won't affect his ability to fight.
Heck, its probably worth it for you to step on them and attack the Orc. Though if you step into the tree square and use it for cover in melee, you grant cover to your enemy as well.
Man, I though by lvl3 Orcs aren't supposed to be a threat any more....
I guess I was misreading the AaO rules. And your turn, Shiny!
Yeah, but these orcs have class levels!
Zman, I just wanted to use one of the hazards. I guess this wasn't the best time to do it, and I misread the AaO rules. Ah well, I don't think any harm was done from it; I can just sweep them back into the bag after the fight.

Why would it grant cover to the enemy as well?
It would take at least a minute to collect the caltrops.
If you are granted cover in melee your opponent is also granted cover. No way around it.
FUN! There were huge limits i.e. certain races could not play certain classes and some combination where limited in term of level and we never had that horror called multiclassing. Ther were no feat and AC was better negative.
roleplay and strategy were much more important as was creativity.

Edit: Any why can't Orcs have class levels?
I was joking with the class level thing, saying why they're dangerous.
Damn. Well, it's work a shot. I can ask others to get them for me once I search the bodies. I was stupid there, wasn't I. I don't want to waste these caltrops though...
Let me guess, Shiny's gonna try to color spray this veteran once he's up.

Back to work. Zman post for me please.
Ok, i will do.
And multiclassing didn't exist, but being a mulitclass so long as you were a demihuman did in 2nd. Oh, how I miss my Elven Fighter/Mage... though THACO, you may rest in peace.
And if he hits, then the battle just became a whole lot easier. Kurt Smashes (well, he's gonna smash anyway), Natalia sneak attacks, and hopefully only the leader's left.
