OOC talk, dice rolls and questions go here please.

Also, please feel free to insert yourself into the village wherever you'd like. You don't necessarily have to be together just yet (I can run things for you separately for the moment), but if you want to work out any pre-existing connection/s, that's fine too.

Zdrak: Make an opposed Sleight of Hand check, at +2 if you decide to cheat. I'll roll a Spot check for Benet privately so that you can't decide to cheat or not based on how good or bad his roll is

I'll just go ahead and call Bold Sienna for the blacksmith's occasionally speech. Right now, he's forging a longsword. Probably a commission from a guardsman, or maybe a caravan guard. Either way, Craft (Weaponsmithing) check:

Alright, so the crafting rules here says that with my roll of 19 multiplied against the DC 15 for a martial weapon put's me at 285 sp worth of work. As a Longsword is worth only 150 sp, over the course of the day( I assume it's evening), I would have finished the Longsword and am now (probably) just putting finishing touches on it.

Hell, looking over this stuff... My maximum roll is a 29, so that means I can pound out 435 sp worth of items per day. Unless I happen to have a fancy forge or masterwork tools (which would give a +2 right?) or some other modifiers; I think it's pretty impressive.

Yup, I'm not even going to bother rolling. No way either of them can beat that.

Remember not all of that is profit - you pay 1/3 of the cost in materials before making the roll. That said, it does seem pretty impressive. Perhaps reducing weekly -> daily checks is too far. Perhaps halving the times would be more appropriate - that way your longsword takes about one and a quarter days with that roll and as little as a day with the max roll? It would seem more realistic, especially given you're still l1.

Also, the answer to the tools question is clearly to craft yourself better tools. Real blacksmiths do.

EDIT: Zdrak - normally I'd give you the opportunity to collect the cards before he could, especially if you had cheated. In this case I thought I'd just resolve it straight as you had nothing to hide. I imagine you'll be doing/have been doing this for a few hours, so I reckon if you make a Sleight of Hand check and earn the result in sp that would be fair.

Toska - you're a little way out from the others but I'll bring you in as soon as I can, probably once everyone's checked in.

After everyone else checks in (Unless something horrid causes a call to arms and I need to supply everyone) then He'll shut down the forge, leave the sword to set (to give to whoever in the morning) and head off to one of the bars.

Well, all the estimates I gave ASSUME that I do a fantastic job. On the other hand, I could roll low and take two days to make it, or loose the materials, or even make 0 progress, so It seems balanced enough. You HAVE read the article you posted, haven't you?

And yeah, I WILL be making masterwork blacksmith's tools eventually. That could take some time though... MAsterwork artisan's tools cost 55 gp (550 sp), and a complex item is a DC 20, so Im assuming thats what I would use (There is no DC to make a skill kit, lol). With max rolls of 29, (29x20=580) oh...well, I guess I could make that in two days if I roll high....Huh. Cool.

I suppose so. And yes, I have - it has a fair bit to say on the quality of item a blacksmith can make at a given level, but says nothing about how long it takes them to do it.
It's probably fine at the current 'check per day' rate though. Unless it proves itself to be broken, there's no reason to fix it.

I'll PM the other two in the morning if they haven't posted by then.

Just as a random question - How common are elves outside of Kalantar?

@Zdrak - don't feel shy in calling Siel over, if you so desire of course.

Not that common, but not terribly rare either. Imagine it like seeing someone who's 6'4"+. It happens from time to time and you think "oh, he's pretty tall" but it doesn't have the same wow factor as, say, someone who's 7' tall.

EDIT: That said, a decision would be appreciated so I know how to continue the story!
