Default Harthar's Zombie Survival Game (Interest. Application. 12 Players Wanted)

So, I really like the Walking Dead and I’d like to GM and play in a DnD based on that. So I decided to make this interest check. DMing will be myself and North_Ranger. We will both have characters in the game as well, just in different groups; I will DM his character, he will DM mine. At the moment we are looking at three groups of players, each with four people in them; for the moment. Each player may create up to three characters. These characters must be different. You can’t make your own Special Forces unit consisting of three people. What you should do is make your Primary Character and then two characters that they bring along with them. These could be wives, children, neighbours, work colleagues. Your character must be with these individuals when the outbreak occurs, thus the reason you are together at the beginning.

The Setting
The Setting will be the United States, as all good Zombie Apocalypses seem to originate there, but will begin in a fictional city (Glendale, not the Los Angeles one) of mine and North’s creation. The origin of the outbreak is a mystery to be discovered by the Player Characters if they wish, all that they know is that at first there were strange occurrences reported on the news/radio: people being bitten by crazed people, families being killed violently, cannibals discovered in the city. After two days of these strange events things really went to hell. This is when your characters would encounter the undead and society as they knew it ends with hordes of these undead roaming the streets. This is essentially where the RP starts, just after your characters begin their life of survival.

Players have the option of running for their lives in the hope that the outbreak is only local, though the news had shown these strange occurrences worldwide. Or they can decide to fortify themselves and hope for rescue by the National Guard, the Army or Superman... But that is something just to think about at the beginning, once we all get together we can decide what path to take.

Definitely interested! I should be able to start on my characters for submission tomorrow.
Some questions:
  • How long have our characters been surviving since the outbreak, before this game begins?
  • What kind of region/time of year/weather conditions are we dealing with?
  • How should we go about generating the inventory/weapons/vehicles/stores that we have gathered thus far?
  • How many kills (if any) do we begin play with?

I am going to assume that you wanted 2d6 for starting cash since that's what you did for yours. However, in the 16... you listed it as 2d20 (I'm thinking this is probably just something that didn't get edited, but just so you are aware)!

2d6x10 is what I’ll be going with. I’ll edit the BIG 16 to reflect this. As for skills, yep. You start with one rank and then add the 25 ontop.

Jojolagger:

Yes they are, up to a point. Obviously arrows can break, but that will be specified.

Weapon health I will determine shortly, shouldn’t be an issue for the moment.

- How much health do cars have?
I will determine that shortly, not really an issue for the moment.

I like the character concept. Also the map of Glendale that I’ll be giving you all will not be the one in Los Angelus, it’ll be a different city entirely, but thank you for the initiative.

Radmelon:
Those character concepts sound good, the group will need medical people, perhaps not so much for the zombie issues as if bitten they can’t really help, but if the group happens upon some ‘bandits’ then it will benefit to have someone with medical training.

Umbranar:
Survival Instructor, very nice. Also a bonus for the group.

Grimsage Matt:
I don’t understand: Strong 3/Battlemind 10/Cerebral Warrior 5? I thought I had written that we start at level one? Sorry buddy, but level one characters to begin with.

Holocron Coder:
Wow, some nice stats there, kind of all in the middle rather than all over the shop.

Hmm, so a mechanic/engineer/technitian, a taxi driver/repo man and his wife, a nurse, try and find a new apartment building where they can hunker down. The old one has a bit of zombie infestation at the moment. Will flesh them out tomorrow.

No Classes, but d20 for the skills, items.

Pretty much what I'd like is for people to put anything down, you don't have to follow any class/occupation restrictions in the d20, just be reasonable (I'll tell you to change stuff if I think it isn't reasonable as well).

Kill Assists sounds like a good idea, but will obviously not count as much as a kill. Lets say, you need 3 kill assists to equate to a kill. I'll add it to the character sheet.

My Characters:
I'm only going for two, to make things harder since I chose a main character that won't find survival too difficult. Having his son to protect though, will give him a major handicap.

So, what I'm thinking of doing is making the OOC thread now and one of the IC threads. As we get more players then I'll make the second thread for the second group, and when we get enough again after that we'll make the third thread. Hopefully this will allow for a gradual meeting of the player characters. As days pass new PCs will generate more backstory to fill in the blanks over those days, but that shouldn't be too difficult.

Umm... Grimsage... can you hear us?

Look, mate. d20 Modern... as in cars, guns, Walking Dead, chainsaws, the ilk. While I'm sure that you could have a glaive and/or a greataxe... I still get the distinct impression that you aren't catching on.

Besides that, might I ask how in the living hell you get 1d4+7 on a punch as a Medium-sized human with base stat rolls of 4d6b3 (possible max of 18) and only given two stat bumps? Even if your maxed and put both points into Strength, giving you a 20... that's still only 1d4+5.

Alright, Grim... I just didn't understand what you were going for. Play whatever you want (that the GM will allow), brother... it is certainly no skin off my nose! I still have to question the validity of "they can't get through the full plate", cause I think you might end up like a can of sardines that eventually is just gonna get peeled open to get to the squishy bits inside... but this isn't my place to argue the finer points.

All I can say is good luck and I hope to see you in the Survivors' Corner... cause I really don't want to have to shoot through full plate.

Grimsage Matt:
No Mutations, no reason for there to be any. Don’t think Battlemind is viable for this also, as well as pretty much all those other suggestions. Your Character Sheet atm looks ok, except that I’m wondering why you have a greataxe and a glaive in modern society, whilst out hunting? I’m not saying you can’t have these weapons, I’m just doubting the likelyhood. Also don’t know how you have 2 zombie and 2 human kills. I want you to put a bit more into your Events as well. Need to fill that out. At the moment, the character isn’t approved.

As I’ve said before, this game is about reality, with the slight mysticism of the acolyte’s healing ability. Though, if it makes things clearer, I can just get rid of that as well. It was more of a means to make people last longer in this game, but I can just as easily remove it.

I think it's a good idea to leave some method of healing in place... unless the idea is to chew through characters like they're going out of style. Though, I know that I, for one, would hate to see that happen to any of mine (they took a bit of time to put together and now, I find, I kinda really like them).
