Of course, realistically, if Cadence ate something, she probably could have just as well flown without Shining Armor. But, that'd make Shining Armor without purpose for the entire two episodes.

Prince Luna, the Purple Magician, is destined to hoard potions.
Shining Sparkle, the Adorable Brony, is destined to defeat cider.
Princess Luna, the Lovable Griffin, is destined to hoard the Wonderbolts.
King Luna, the Fabulous Manticore, is destined to pose for potions (what?).
Shining Spoon, the Magical Manticore, is destined to discover Discord.
Apparently Luna likes hoarding and potions. Also shapeshifting and genderbending.

Eeeh. It's entertaining enough, but I'm really feeling a lot of the simplification and the loss of much of the data (the top cities, all the graphs and things) and the loss of things like micromanaging where your citizens work. The religions are fun. The combats look like they could be rather longer, what with the increased hitpoints (not sure that's a bad thing considering what it must have been like prior to the expansion), but I haven't really got that far, as this is the first run-through (building up to it, though). (And I went for a small map and normal time. I suspect I'd be doing better on Epic with a huge map, which is normally how I play Civ IV. Which I am still thinking is better - but I sort of knew that already, which is why I've only now got Civ V, as we've got that far down on my birthday list we've actually reached it!) My workers have spent more time sat on their arses, too, given the slow speed of territory advancement (and the fact that I've not really got anywhere to go at the moment, again due to the small map size.) But as a first run through, s'not bad.
The starting music for the pony mod was very nice; I'm sort of disappointed now we've reached the boring later stuff!
On the other hand, while flavoursome, the Equestrian Leader Civ bonus suuuucks. Especially since so far, only one crowd wanted to be friends once. No, not impressed with that at all!

Solid Episode! Had a big stupid grin on face the entire time. The test at the end was a bit odd when they could have just quizzed the Pinkies about her life rather than 'if you get distracted Twilight will send you to the cornfield the pond' but I'm not gonna complain
Another episode, another mysterious book that they spend just enough time on to make it seem like foreshadowing.
Also, Granny Pie knew about a secret cloning pond even Twilight had never heard of, and she taught Pinkie 'Giggle at the Ghosties.' Was Pinkie's grandmother some sort of badass adventurer in her day?
New episode
Spoiler
I enjoy the headcanon about Pinkie's grandmother/grandmothers. Maybe they were both crazy-awesome adventurers, and their children were so tired of adventure that they simply had to go do the most boring thing they could think of: farming rocks.
All of my other thoughts about the episode, however, have been repeated ad nauseum.
My pony destiny is:
King Bumpkin, the pink magician destined to study Canterlot.
Twilight Tiara the Girly Blank-Flank, destined to OVERTHROW THE WONDERBOLTS!
Episode 3 related headcanonings tangentishly related to Deadly's own spoiler stuff
Spoiler
So, Granny and/or Nanny Pie laugh in the face of danger, have clearly explored the Everfree Forest and consider tales of vaguely fae magical legends the kind of thing you tell your fillies.
And we're surprised that Pinkie is not quite normal? Any family line that has spent that much time wandering round the Everfree and discovering hidden lore that pony was not meant to know is going to have some...metaphysical quirks, I reckon.
i was trying to think what might beat Gak Gak Gak as next thread title and came up with

I'd like to point out that this could be a perfectly good concept, it should just be CALLED a period drama, and not a sci-fi. (And it shouldn't be a reboot of a sci-fi.)

Yeah, because Pinkie is well known for self doubt.

I am Twilight Luna, the Pink Pegasus, and I am destined to Curse the Princess.
Since I am fond of both Celestia and Luna, I take this to mean that Cadance is going to get it at some point. You should probably keep her away from me.

I am not, however, impressed with the Civ 5 locking up so completely I had to do a hard reboot. (I've noticed that for a game that's a couple of years old, it is REALLY resource hungry; it loads more slowly than freakin' Witcher 2.)

Well, quite. Had it not been mutilating BSG, I would have had no problems with it. (I wouldn't have cared, mind, but I wouldn't have had problems.)

Its better than it was. Mine also used to crash all the time as well after a certain point. They seem to have improved it at some point (maybe it was the expansion, I didn't really pay attention).
As for the episode
Spoiler
That cloud ride has me intrigued. Maybe Twilight casts the cloudwalking spell on all of them? If so, what happens if Dash decides to be *funny* and leaves them in the sky?
As for the Pinkie defying laws of physics thing, it seems to be something every pony in the show just accepts and ignores, and therefore needs no explanation. New people, like Twilight, might have to go through some frustration before giving up and accepting. A very bad analogy might be something like the frontiers of physics theory, which pretty much no one understands, but the universe still works. Except if the theories were wrong and there really was no explanation. ... Yeah, really bad analogy.
Also: You are Prince Fritter, the manly manchild, destined to shove the princess.
or Queen Pie the baby alicorn, destined to sing to stallions (that one is better fanfiction fuel there)

But seriously, episodes giving Pinkie some depth and limits are a-ok in my book. It started out rather predictable (the good sort, where you're rubbing your hands together and cackling in anticipation), and then took it in an interesting direction with Pinkie feeling glum and regretful about all the trouble she'd caused her friends. I laughed out loud at "Watching Paint Dry!", and there were a lot of other great moments too.
There were a few random coincidences, like the random finding of the Book that Solves Everything, but overall, very enjoyable.
Also, sweet pony princesses the test scene is Fridge Horror-iffic. Or at least as horroriffic as this show is going to go.

Given how Granny pie laughs in the face of danger, knows all this lore that even Twilight doesn't know and may have spent time wandering Everfree.
I'm starting to think Granny Pie was a retired adventurer.

I'll have to give 4 a try sometime. I got it ages ago in the steam sales but never got around to it.

Which pony mod is this? Is it the same one that was posted in the thread before? I didn't realise it had it's own music :o

I'm liking this idea of Granny Pie being some sort of crazy awesome pony. Maybe Pinkie's mom/dad was the black sheep of the family for wanting to be normal, unlike Pinkie's crazy Aunt Surprise from the same side.

These are both winners, especially with all the 'Twilight gets corrupted' speculation that flew around after the premiere. Season four spoilers: Rarity becomes a stripper by virtue of being the only pony who ever puts on clothes in the first place.
Also this generator is a fanfic contest just waiting to happen. Post an image of a randomly generated destiny (no cheating and making one up) and someone else writes something 2500 words or less based off of it. Maybe roll three destinies and then pick the best one?
