[3.5, Greyhawk] Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil [Closed]
In the fifteen years since the great temple near Hommlet, built by followers of Iuz and Zuggtmoy in an uneasy cooperation, was cast down and the cultists slain or driven off, the village has grown and prospered. Indeed, despite continued activity in the area by hobgoblins and the occasional undead infestation, their militia has defended them well, and it is said that adventurers no longer visit the area. Nonetheless, in a world like this, you take your work where you can find it, and it's been three months since your last job. One member of your band just received a letter asking you to deliver a shipment of Velunan wine to Hommlet with all speed, as the usual provider is weeks late. It wouldn't seem like much, but read between the lines, and it sounds like this is only a pretext for a more intriguing offer...
System: D&D 3.5 Player Count: 3-4. One spot reserved, as this was a request. Style of Play: Traditional adventuring, combat and investigation. This is an old module (well, relatively speaking) and I'll probably be running it in a fairly old-fashioned manner. Allowed Content: Official content (Dragon does not count as official) is generally ok until I say otherwise, but use common sense, and ask if you're unsure. Homebrew is not until I say otherwise, so always ask first. The module is set in Greyhawk, so avoid Realms- or Eberron-specific material. No flaws.
Character Creation:
Backstory: At least enough to give me a good idea of the character. I don't mind length as long as it's well-written. Work with the assumption that you have worked together with the other characters before, but it needn't have been as a fellow adventurer. That said, have motivation! If your current occupation is not 'adventurer,' you should have some reason to leave it behind and pursue the nebulous benefits of that profession, even if said reason is no more than attachment to another character.
Experience: 4th level + 100xp spare.
Wealth: 5400g.
Ability Scores: 4d6b3 or 30pt buy
Hitpoints/Health: Max first level, average afterward.
Partial BAB/saves.
Alignment: Any.
Other Notes:
Try to keep overall power levels in the low to moderate range, but versatility is a good thing. Don't devote yourself to one trick.
Please be able and willing to post regularly. (A familiar refrain, I'm sure.) If you can't manage every day or two, prior notice excepting, you're likely to be NPC'd and eventually replaced.
Recruitment will probably be open for a week or two, depending on interest.
Re: [3.5, Greyhawk] Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil
Mighty RNG, hear my plea and grant me good rolls and I will deduct money for an ox and a halfton of firewood from the starting wealth of my character in offering to you.
Re: [3.5, Greyhawk] Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil
If I get in Bard wielding wands (can bufff with inpire courage and have own spells so not big issue if run out of charges). Maybe with a multiclass into Crusader.
Do you use multiclass penalty? This important if I will do Bard 4/1 Crusader or Bard 3/Crusader 2.
Can I take the feat Song of the Heart (+1 bonus to inspire courage, Greatnes, etc) from Ebberon campaign setting book? The book allows a bard to give up a song like Inspire Competence for it as Alternate class feature exchange.
If not that is fine.
I rolled 22 Pb I think? Oh well (going with Point buy I think).
Re: [3.5, Greyhawk] Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil
Posting interest... I've never played in an "official" module before. I've a hankering to try out a Psychic Warrior, and level 3 is a good place to start.
Re: [3.5, Greyhawk] Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil
Lemme see if I can turn the thread's dice-luck around
Dice - (4d6b3)[12] For - (4d6b3)[9] The - (4d6b3)[14] Dice - (4d6b3)[15] Gods - (4d6b3)[13] Amirite - (4d6b3)[11]
Gave it my best shot

Aw. This looks full. Pity.

DM: Okay so with your ridiculously high search score you find some Elven Chainmail.
Player: I attack.
DM: What? What are you attacking?
Player: The kobold wearing the chainmail.
DM: You have been sitting here this entire time, how do you not know what's going on?
Player: I heard someone say something about Kobolds...
DM: Well yea like an hour ago... okay, so you set on fire. 1dGrape damage.
Most of the way done... will add name, adventuring gear (food, caltrops, etc) and backstory (ie how he got a Goliath hammer in his size) tomorrow. The dwarven ability to carry a lot of weight without any penalties is coming in handy for this guy.

Don't worry about it. I've basically signed up for 2 other games in the past two days, I'm trying to see if those actually play out well. I'll keep my eye on this thread

Re: [3.5, Greyhawk] Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil
Hm, no, they wouldn't stack; I'd call them effectively the same class feature. However, add your monk and swordsage levels together for the bonus AC monks get. (Unless unarmed swordsages get that too. I can't remember. <<;;)

Re: [3.5, Greyhawk] Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil
Posting interest for a spirit shaman since it seems that it would be appropriate in this case.... by the way I plan on playing as a lesser aasimar because I could make some lovely fluff with it!
Well lately I have been rolling poorly but the die hard roller in me tells me to give it a crack!
Re: [3.5, Greyhawk] Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil
Hmmm...... I have an idea! Actually it's an older one of mine.
A factotum 3/Warblade 1, who makes heavy use of UMD and UPD to convince others he's a mage/psionic. Warblade dip is for versatility/conserving charges. Would probably take a few more later. Perhaps an Incarnate 1 dip for soulmelds too........ Maybe Factotum 2/Incarnate 1/Warblade 1?
Most likely going for Factotum 3/Warblade 1.
Would you mind if I bound a bunch of scrolls in leather and called it my "spellbook?"
I'm planning to play him like a wandering bodyguard, guarding caravans or wealthy merchants, he'd be a hopeless romantic trying to find true love so he can settle down and raise a family as he is sick of all the bloodshed.
I have some time now so I'll start working on him and his backstory. Hope to get accepted.
Re: [3.5, Greyhawk] Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil
Oh mighty DM... I was wondering if we could use a flaw, this isn't for power mongering or anything it's just so I can take Education so I can take spontaneous healing as a level 3 feat since Spirit shaman's don't get knowledge religion.... This choice is so I can be more versatile, I will be able to summon spontaneously and heal spontaneously to help out the group if need be.

Re: [3.5, Greyhawk] Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil
Morbis, 'lesser' Aasimar are a bit too good for LA0. Pick either Wis or Cha for your stat boost and halve the elemental resistances.
Edit: Spirit Shamans don't get Religion? I can sort of see why that might be, but it still seems silly. Just swap one of your other Knowledge class skills for it. Bloody Avoidance Kata.
garoth, that would work to some degree, but scrolls are generally larger than the page of a book. Write tiny, and don't expect that any you pick up along the way will fit in.

Hmmm... thanks for the knowledge boon but lesser assimar is less attractive now since spirit shamans are a rather MAD class and lesser aasimar really do not get a lot of abilities also how do you have resistance 5, do you want it 2 or 3, it just seems weird to me. I think I will just go with human since most of their abilities are being nerfed... getting +2 to a stat, daylight 1/day and nerfed resistances is nothing compared to what humans get
