Default Anyone know how to use GIMP for avatars?

Can anyone give me some pointers on how to make avatars with GIMP? I'm new to this program and would appreciate any advice to use it...

Actually I have found that avatars should be made on Inkscape then opened up in GIMP. Can anyone help me create avatars with Inkscape instead?

Here is the guide for Inkscape. You need to scroll down a little. If you've got any other questions I, or someone else, can probably answer them.

Actually, I've been doing all my OotS-style work in the GIMP (how I hate that name...) with pretty good results, if I do say so myself. If there's still anyone wanting to know this, I might try to write something up.
