Hmm...I'm not really sure that I have one motto. Still, I have a general one like this.
"Life is like a fortune cookie: If you eat the cookie first, you may regret it once you find wisdom. If you find wisdom first, you may miss out on a great cookie."
Don't take life too seriously, you'll never make it out alive.

Mine involves the use of my last name, which, considering you know my location and first name. I'm not comfortable giving out with stalkers like Alarra on these boards.
Well, that one, and my nice simple one: "Don't be stupid."
Seriously folks, just don't.

The Sith motto for me. "Power denied is power wasted!"

I either use the one in my sig (the one with all the v's) or this one:
"Live as if there will always be a tomorrow, but if there wasn't, you'd be fine with that."
Acknowledge the past, live the present, plan for the future.
Granted, I have a terrible memory and I'm a pretty aloof fellow, so I more often than not don't actually follow the above.
Sun Tzu's The Art of War is a great repository for wisdom. The whole thing's great, really, but my favorite saying comes from a commentator speaking of Zhang Liang's Ruse of the Empty City and its hallmark quote: "If I do not wish to engage, I can hold my ground with nothing more than a line drawn around it." While the original intent of the full saying refers to deception, to me (especially as I have not read Romance of the Three Kingdoms), refers to being being able to survive regardless of an enemy's assault and my own defenses; "a line drawn around it."
Highly recommend John Minford's translation of The Art of War. It has the English translation in the first half, and the second half has the text, in addition to commentators both ancient and modern, and gives context to some of the sayings in the text.
Art of War so should have been declared a Classic...
When life gives you lemons, squeeze out the juice and throw in the moron's eyes. Stupid jerk giving me lemons...
Or,
Nothing but a Nobody.
Got it memorised?
The way I heard it was:
When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Then, track down life, pin his ass to the ground, and pour the lemonade in the bastard's eyes and scream "THAT'S FOR THROWING CRAP AT ME YOU ASS!"
Or, an alternate version is:
When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Then, find someone whose life is giving them vodka and have a party.
"The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones."
Damn Civ 4.

No, no, no. The proper ending is "hurts like <boop>".
Oh, my motto?
"Common sense saves you many a trouble." or something along those lines.
At times, I'd go with Monty Python: "Life's full of <boop>, when you look at it..."
