The Sticks Awards are given to the best strips of all times, chosen by the polls here in the Playground.
This thread is a compilation of links for the other voting threads.
Previously, the voting format was like this: for each 10 comics, chronologically chosen, OotS fans selected one to qualify to the Best of the Hundred poll. Then they elected, with another poll featuring the 10 winners, the best for that hundred comics.
However, after the #111-120 poll, the board imposed a 5-option limit on the polls created for the threads. So we had to stick with this bizarre format of two simultaneous 5-option polls, with open voting to take double-voters away. We even had to do a runoff for the #161-170 batch, because there was a triple tie on that, and the Best of the Hundred poll could not have more than 10 options because of this limit.
But after the first 200 comics, the format changed again, and now we have only one poll with 5 options. After all the hundred strips were voted ("the regular season"), then we'll have 4 polls with 5 of the winners ("the playoffs"), which will yield 4 big winners for the last poll of that hundred ("the finals"). That's the reason that "The Best of the Quarter" award was just introduced in the third season.
If you have any suggestions, comments or questions, feel free to post on this thread.
Just to tell you guys that I am still around. I just went on a little vacation (it's carnival here in Brasil) and now I'm back, but now I'm in a hurry. So, I'll post the polls today or tomorrow.
I had to discard like 59 votes from the last poll, people. Double votes were all discarded, except those whose owners asked to consider just one of them in the poll's thread. I think it was 3 people, which makes 28 voters whose votes were disregarded.
Well, I'll go to lunch now and post the new poll later today.
Well, I was bored. So, I thought I'd work out the expected point at which we overtake Rich with rated comics.
For the purposes of the model, assume we rate a set of 10 comics in one week and then immediately start the next one (yeah, I know this isn't reality, but just live with the guess being optimistic)
Also assume that for this period Rich continues to post comics at the rate of 3/week.
At the end of this week, we will have rated 170 comics and there will be 430 comics in existence.
Using this model, in 38 weeks we will have rated (38*10) + 170 = 550 rated comics. Actually, if we take a week out to vote on best of a hundred, that will be in 42 weeks (4 hundreds will have passed)
In 42 weeks, Rich will have posted a total of 430 + 3*42 = 556 comics made.
So, a rough date for us catching up would be... somewhere in the second week of January 2008
Bear in mind that will fluctuate based on time between polls (including Nazzo going somewhere without internet again :) ), Rich deciding to post more/less comics and anything else that interferes with that schedule.

Alright, people, I've been thinking about the current format of the Awards, and I don't like it. Two simultaneous polls are not good, definitely. So I came up with this.
Regular season: 20 5-comic polls, 5 days each.
Playoffs: 4 5-comic polls with the regular season winners, 5 days each.
Finals: One 4-comic poll with the playoffs winners, 7 days.
It will take more time to complete the hundred, but we now have a brand new award: The Best of The Quarter. That is, for those who didn't catch, the winners of the playoffs.
I think I'll start with this format from comic #200 on.
What do you guys think? I like it. No more double votes, no more confusing double polls. Just one each time.
An announcement: next week's poll will not be The Best of the Hundred. Because of the 5-option limit in polls, we have to make a run-off for #161-170.
I was also thinking in making a series of quick polls, like 4 days only, instead of 2 simultaneous polls. Since people tend to forget the poll in the end of the week (the threads are have been going to page 2), I think it'll be better. So, The Best of the Hundred #100-200 will be a fantastic 3-poll contest, featuring a 4-day poll for the first 5, then another 4-day poll for the next 5, and then we'll have a lightning 2-day poll for the clash between the two big winners.
Ok, no polls. I'll stick with the current format (20 regular; 4 BotQ; 1 BotH) because the polls can come back at anytime. For now, just post the voted on the relevant thread.
I really like the new format of votiing in 5s, with best of quarter and 4-way final. THink I prefer this to the original 10x10, and much better than the parallel votes tried recently.
What I think would be a helpful final touch would be to pick a regular day for 'new polls' e.g. Monday and Thursday. Moday gets 3 weekdays for the poll, Thursday sees two weekdays and the w/end.
I won't push you to tally votes to the same schedule, so long as we know when to log in and look for votes <g>
You know, just a thought, but since the polls are gone anyways, why not go back to 10 choices?
Might be a little easier.
Could be, but I'm sticking with this format in case the polls come back from the undead. This way we do not have to change the voting format again if ot does.

Ah, tiny but valuable correction. Thank you. Lavoisier was a really smart guy after all. "Nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is CTRL+C, CTRL+V".
So, what do you guys think of the the new 5-day lifespan of the polls?
I like it. There were more votes than usual. The 536-540 poll also showed that the number of voters is more when a new comic comes out. But I had to cast Raise Dead on that poll because it had fallen over halfway down the first page. Otherwise, 5-day polls are great!
As I said, there is just no reason to rush, not at the rate new comics are being posted. The extra time may not get us many more votes, but even a few are worth having when it doesn't cost us anything.
I'd prefer a longer time to vote. When I go on vacation, I can expect to be out of town for 6-10 days, and usually don't have internet access then. Plus I my be out for a few days at a time for other reasons.
Great artist, I'm assuming clinically insane as hes willing to draw for me. Also, *cracks whip* WHAT ARE YOU DOING OUT OF YOUR BOX, I TOLD YOU TO DRAW FASTER!
