As you may have seen by now, alternate accounts are no longer allowed in the newly updated rules.

If you have alts that you would prefer to have closed, rather than merged. Please state that as well.
And I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, especially in the town.

Whereas I don't have any alts, I do sometimes use the same computer as Jesthik/Tantolian. I'd hate to get him banned because my computer wouldn't connect to the network or something.

How do you know if someone has another account? Can you look at a specific IP address and see how many accounts are registered on it? Or do you only know it's an alt if it's explicitly stated by the poster?

No, you misunderstand. I'm not planning on creating any new accounts after this rule goes into affect. Im just stating that any alternate accounts that I may have right now (which I don't want to identify) you can feel free to ban or whatever. I do not want their PM boxes merged with my main account.

Well I don't meant to be disrespectful or anything but the rules actually say:

That seems to mean that if one chooses not to publicly admit to any alts then all alts will be "closed" and the account with the most posts will be left open as the main (assuming that not enough infractions transfer to ban the main).
And Tormsskull, If you don't want to publicly admit an alt just PM the info to a mod or admin.
Edit: I think it was called The Spin Doctor. (note that the word "The" is part of the name.)
Ban it in the cruelest way possible. Lynch it with an RB thread, use a Ready Aim Fire! weapon, etc.

One question... how does this take into account the roving playgrounders, or the playgrounders who get together sometimes? I'm guessing this will have something to do with IPs, since you're asking who may be on your comptuer or in your household... Do I need to approve it by the board mods before I check my PM's at El J's place (for example) to keep from causing red flags?

I sometimes post from public computers (eg, the local library). Do I need to worry about someone else logging into a different account on a computer I have used? Should I avoid those computers entirely?
I wouldn't worry about the 'checking your accounts on other people's computers' issues. It's pretty understandable that periodically people share a computer, and we wouldn't be banning accounts for that. And I'll refer the public computers question to Rawhide, as really, I don't know enough about this.

I had Anonymous as an alternate account. No need to merge, just ban.

I no longer actively read the forums, and probably won't respond to any PMs. I'm fine with people using my homebrew in anything, including fan-compilations and wikis, as long as you credit me.
I have an alternate account named "pquekadl" that I would like merged into this one. Also, most of the time I spend on this account is at Augsburg College meaning that there are potentially several other people with accounts on the school's network.
Lastly, if at some point in the future I (or anyone else for that matter) decide that I want a different user name would it be possible to ban or merge this existing account or would I be out of luck?
Edit: one more thing, if my two accounts are merged while my posts per day recalculate from the creation of my alt (which is several months older than this one)?

The Dread Pyrite (alt) - Made that one for use on TLAP day. No PMs so no need to merge it.
Strange... I just logged into that account to check it. It's still there but doesn't appear on the member list.
There was one other alt I made just after the forum change-over so that I could ask for help when my main account would not reactivate. I don't remember the name. I thought it was "Temporary" but that doesn't appear on the member list so I'm not sure. It doesn't need to be merged, whatever it was.
