Lightbulb [Template] Now thats one spirited animal!

Untamed

Within the deepest jungles, the depths of the sea and across forgotten plains there are beasts who've never known man. They have lived with their fellow beasts since time immemorable so that not even ancestral memories can be brought up. Thus when they meet intelligent creatures who think to lord over them they are confused and frightened.

Those that come within 10 feet of fire however act Confused as the spell for as long as they are in range and 1d6 rounds thereafter except that on a roll that would have them babble incoherently they instead rush at the fire, potentially being set aflame. Wildfires do not affect untamed horses in this manner.

Feral Mind (Ex): An untamed horse gains a +4 bonus to resist mind-affecting effects.

Hide in Plain Sight (Ex): Untamed horses do not take a size penalty to hide checks while in plains enviroment.

Unafraid of Man (Ex): Though wary of man-like creatures, an untamed horse does not know to fear them. Intimidate checks made by a creature with the humanoid type do not affect untamed horses unless they wield some sort of flame, such as a burning branch. Intimidate then functions as normal.

Uncooperative (Ex): An untamed horse cannot easily relate with man and the DC of all Handle Animal and Ride checks directed at it are doubled. Those that attempt these skills and fail have a 50% of inciting it to attack. Creating an Untamed Creature

"Untamed" is an inherited template that can be added to any animal or magical beast of an intelligence of 3 or less without the fire subtype, hereafter referred to as the base creature.

An untamed creature uses all the base creature's statistics and special abilities except as noted here. Do not recalculate the creature’s Hit Dice, base attack bonus, saves, or skill points if its type changes.
Size and Type: Size and type is unchanged.
Speed: An untamed creature's speed is increased by 5 feet.
Attack: An untamed creature retain all the natural attacks of the base creature.

Special Qualities: An untamed creature retains all qualities of the base creature plus the following qualities.

Fear of the Red Flower (Ex)
: Untamed animals have an odd reaction to fire. Those within 60 feet of it act as if Fascinated. Those that come within 10 feet of fire however act Confused as the spell for as long as they are in range and 1d6 rounds thereafter except that on a roll that would have them babble incoherently they instead rush at the fire, potentially being set aflame. Wildfires do not affect untamed creatures in this fashion.

Feral Mind (Ex):
An untamed creature gains a +4 bonus to resist mind-affecting effects.

Hide in Plain Sight (Ex): While in any sort of natural terrain the creature is native to, an untamed creature of medium or smaller size can use the Hide skill even while being observed. Large and larger untamed creatures however do not take a size penalty to hide checks.

Unafraid of Man (Ex):
Though wary of man-like creatures, an untamed creature does not know to fear them. Intimidate checks made by a creature with the humanoid type do not affect untamed creatures unless they wield some sort of flame, such as a burning branch. Intimidate then functions as normal.

Uncooperative (Ex): An untamed creature cannot easily relate with man and the DC of all Diplomacy, Handle Animal and Ride checks directed at an untamed creature are doubled. Those that attempt these skills and fail have a 50% chance of either scaring away the creature if small or smaller, or a 50% of inciting them to attack if medium or larger.

In addition an untamed creature is considered one size category larger for the purpose of escaping a grapple and gain a +4 bonus to Strength checks to break bonds.

Abilities: Increase from the base creature as follows: Wis +2.
Skills: An untamed creatures gains a +4 bonus to Escape Artist and Move Silently checks.
Skill Trick: Untamed animals gain the Quick Escape and Slipping Past skill tricks even if they do not meet the prerequisites.
Feats: An untamed gains Steadfast Determination as a bonus feat. Otherwise same as base creature.
Challenge Rating: Same as the base creature.

This is good. And eventually, after continued constant contact, does the template go away as the animal gets used to them?

I'd say perhaps their Fear of Man bit, but if anything man would just tick them off more if it treated them badly.

True, but after longer they would get used to fire as well. I think everything except there feral mind and there hide in plain site would go. But it would take a long time. A REALLY long time.

Aye, though I'd just leave that bit up to the DM.

Also just gave them Steadfast Determination as a bonus feat. Fits in just too well.

Never quite understood the links from this place. I can click on them and it works for me, but not others, but if I go and rewrite it word for word it begins to work for everyone. Brlrlblblbl....

This is cool.
This will most definitely come in handy to add to the flavour of untamed wilderness.
Perhaps adding a rage (or rage-like) ability to demonstrate their heightened sense of fight-or-flight would be good.
That would probably make this a CR+1 Template though.
