I hope we wonīt know Vīs gender for a long time, since this means the strip will be continued for some more years (it will very likely be revealed in the last strip)
The inability of many members of this forum to observe, as demonstrated by these threads, is overwhelming.
It's a joke, people. A long-running gag that will likely never end. It has nothing to do with gender or lack thereof, it is funny. Or it was, til threads like this made it tiring and painful. I love every single character in OOTS, but I think I might rather see V leave the comic than see this debate anymore.

I would mostly agree with that. While I like V more than I hate these debates, I do think that V's gender debates are taking a joke far too seriously.
V's gender is a running gag. It's not a 'find whatever minuscule evidence you can and use it to support a theory' topic.

The point is, no one should know.
It doesn't matter what we think, what s/he looks like, or what s/he says or does.
It's just a running gag, that's meant to be funny.
V is supposed to be androgynous!

You're right. Above all, that is the finall porpuse of V's secret gender.
It is possible that V is a hermaphrodite. Neither male or female. Or V could be a unic. Y'know...*snip snip*

Like I said, no boobs. Plus, look at comic 9, panel 1. Roy says "V-Man", not "V-Babe".
Rich has already said that V started out with a specific gender, and he only added the androgenous joke when people started becoming confused about it.
I dont know V's gender i'd wager an educated guess at male (tho i originaly thought she was female) all i care is eventuly the giant may tell us because it's driveing me CRAZY!!!

I'd like to elaborate with my thoughts: I kind of think of Vaarsuvius as male but doesn't care one way or another about gender. He considers love and even sexuality as an almost exclusively emotional thing, rather than a physical thing, and therefore finds it not at all odd for the same gender to like the same gender, etc. He doesn't find gender to be a deciding factor in emotional attraction.
Long story short: Bisexual male.

This might be late..

But I think V is a man. Why, you may ask?
Look back to the New Years countdown.
Look at who Belkar kissed.
I think V is a man. Because it's funnier that way :)
because... you know guys( and girls ) ... this is the Internet...
It is not as if you can rely on a person to be female (or male ) on the Internet even if s(he) tells you...
so even if at a specific date in the future V's gender would be revealed... i wouldn't buy it.
While obviously Haley is a girl... definitely... I would send her money if she asked for it
Well rethinking the last sentence... No i wouldn't...

I'm of the opinion that V is female. I don't have any instances or whatnot to back up my opinion. I just get that feeling. I always did. I didn't even realize there WAS a gender debate for awhile reading the comics.
The fact that Vaarsivvus has a square body means one of the following
I. V's a he
II. V's a she with VERY VERY UN_ELF_LIKE heavy build and flat chest
III. V is somehow even more ambigouos.
Is probably not gay or feminine-masculine.
at least how I view myself am very similar to what Vaasivus would be if male

My favorite theory about V's gender that I've heard thus far (and I'll have to scour the boards to find the person I need to offer credit to), is that there are two elves called Vaarsuvius. They're one chromosome away from being identical twins, and they trade places off-panel using incredible elf-ninja powers.
Now, I've almost always perceived V as male. Occasionally, the character will read as female to me, but that's generally the exception.
Of course, even if V were to flash the readers, in full frontal, un-blurred glory, it wouldn't settle the debate. There'd no doubt still be people claiming that the event was non-canonical, or that V used illusion magic to confuse the issue, or something.
male, don't know if this has been said before but with rich burlew's style females generally have eyes lower positions on the head, and V's eyes seem pretty high, particularly in the early strips
V? He is definitely female. She has clear & convincing evidence of being male. We have the united testimony of each and every character in both directions.
Clearly V had an magical accident with a Belt of Gender Changing - V has been in a state of quantum gender flux ever since.
I didn't realise there was such a debate over this really. I'm fairly sure V was meant to be male to begin with, but the ambiguity was quickly retconned into the backstory only a few strips in. People keep referring to V by both genders to add to the joke. I consider V to be gender neutral, although I'd probably use pronouns like he/him if I were forced (maleness seems to be the neutral position for iconic cartoons; just look at the smiley face - it looks more male to me than female).
I'd be surprised if this was ever resolved one way or the other - I'd find it much more satisfying if it was kept a secret. Or if V turned out to be a hermaphrodite. Dun dun dunnnnnnn.....
