No, the proper term is Open Suse 10.2 with a KDE set-up.

I also say "Window XP" without the Microsoft.

Do you think KDE is better than Gnome? I like Gnome a lot, but sometimes I'm curious about KDE...

The problem is, everyone knows windows is by Microsuck, people generally don't know Linux is mostly the work of the people of GNU (IIRC a typical distribution had 8% Linux and 26% GNU, with the rest the work of the individual distribution)

You're posting on RB you have a lot of time to waste. We all do here. I'm mixing RB with The melancholy of Haruhi Suzuma.

It's just 4 beeping characters, that's not wasting time, that's just spending a split of a second to use a correct name.

I do, but there's more honor in fighting a losing battle than there is to give up, especially when there is no real consequence for not giving up.

If it wasn't a losing battle, it wouldn't be worth fighting! And I pretty much only use windows. *waits to be beaten up and looted*

At least it's better than suckdows, it is an Unix based system (while suckdows is a DOS based system)

Ah, DOS. I remember my old compy. If you wanted to run something as fancy as Windows 3.1, you had to start it up special. Most of the time, just
/cd
was good enough. (Hmm...I think I still have those Commander Keen discs around the place somewhere... )

I remember dos as wel, I even remember my old compy which had no HD and had to boot from those 5 inch something disks, not too mention it had a black and green monitor.

You mean the original floppy disks? Yeah, those were fun.

I use windows, and I really don't care what you say. Everyone else who uses it agrees with me. Face it, it isn't as popular as it is for no reason.

To think that I was there in the earliest moments of PC-mouse driven GUI...

My first PC had two floppy drives and you could use GEM in it :) It was such fun, with all the disk-swapping that finally got you to the drawing program. O, what fun I had with it.

So was I, I remember using windows 2 on my second PC, after that windows 3.1, then 3.11, then 95, then 98, then XP, yeah I've been with microsoft for a long time.

@Vonriel: It's so popular because people don't know better, that's the complete and honest truth.

Does anyone remember Acorn computers? They were awful. My primary school had loads of them.

So, I suppose it doesn't matter that my uncle, who worked in network security, and who has tried other operating systems, doesn't know any better for choosing windows? Or my brother, who currently does work in that field?

I prefer to use it, just because everyone who doesn't use windows is so elitist about their own pet operating system. Not to mention that I'll never have to dual boot my computer to play games. *shrug* I suppose I'll just have to learn to cope with my oh-so-terrible operating system that has yet to cause me any problems after a year of use.

It isn't terrible, and I understand some people prefer to use it. But most people have never even bothered to try other OS's, I like GNU/Linux because of the inherent security of Unix based systems and because of the ideals behind it.

GEM: As usual, Wiki knows it all.

And yeah, I had an Amstrad PC1640 computer (I lived in Europe).

But my first computer was a ZX Spectrum.
Who can beat that?

Edit: Um...Does the Acorn already beat it?

And yet.. "suckdows"..

Actually, I really should stop. Sorry. I tend to get very annoyed by people who try to push another operating system onto someone because their choice is inferior. Note that that's the arrogant attitude taken by some people towards Windows, not necessarily the way I perceived yours.

A good reason why people stick with Windows may be because of cost, too. You know it's at least useable, and that it'll do what you need it to, so why buy another operating system when you're not even sure how it'll work for you? Barring free demos of them, most people won't go out of their way to try them. It's a complacency thing - no need to fix what ain't broke, y'see?

Aw, that's a trick answer ;) Why would someone give a 3 year old any kind of computer?

@Vonriel: the big fact for any computer user is that if they change to another OS, they have to "relearn the computer". Familiarity should not be underestimated as a reason for choice. But certainly is a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" situation.

Also, using windows requires me to do very little work. If I wanted to switch to something else, I would have to figure how to get it, how to install it, and how to use it. Windows is a lot easier, and I haven't had any problems with it, so I see no reason to switch.
