Mrs. Greenhilt was away, and Eugene was performing an experiment. Roy tried to warn him not to do that around his little brother, but the old man blew him off. Sure enough, there's an explosion, and Roy's the only survivor of the three. Eugene gets brought back, but there's no reply from baby bro.

In the comic where Xykon broke Roy's Sword, one of the flashbacks had a little child behind his mother's chair. People suspected it was a third Greenhilt child, since if Julia was born back then, Roy, a 12 year old at that moment, would be going 'twack twack' with a toy sword.

Crikey, all these dead relatives explain a lot about the Greenhilts' personalities and family dynamics. It also places Roy in danger of overtaking Haley in the angst department.
