Default Alchemists - GAME ENDED

Alchemists

“People cannot gain anything without sacrificing something. You must present something of equal value to gain something. That is the Law of Equivalent Exchange in Alchemy. Back then, we believed that to be the world’s only truth.”

It’s that time of year again, when the Alchemists from all over the country head off to Central to take the Alchemy Test, hoping to be one of the few lucky ones to become the State Alchemists, the Alchemists of the Greatest Prestige.

Everyone arrives early at the Academy on that day. Without hesitation, you are all led into a great room and sit, with the judges in front of you. The papers are handed out and the Alchemists begin the written test. You take the easy questions you know first and leave the harder ones for later. “What is the basic principle of Alchemy?” says the Exam. “What is the Law of Equivalent Exchange?” Piece of Cake.

As you turn the page to the long answer questions, you see a question you did not expect to find.

What is a Homunculus? Give a brief explanation on the life and nature of Homunculi.

Homunculi. Human beings created through Alchemy, possessing supernatural powers. But Homunculi… they are just a myth, aren’t they? Then why is the exam asking about them? Maybe a trick question?

You answer the question as best you can and continue. The rest of the exam is easy to someone as prepared as you. In a matter of minutes, you hand in your examination and leave the room, awaiting your results.

While the exam was easy for someone as skilled as you, only 40 out of about two hundred applicants passed the written exam. You rejoice as you see your name on the list of those who passed. Your hard work has paid off.

The practical exam begins right away, and you are all led through several areas of the Academy, being tested on your skills. But little did you know that the true test was only about to begin.

The director of the Academy steps up to speak. “To all of you here, congratulations on making it this far. Few have made it to the practical test. Usually our exams consist of testing the skills of our Alchemists and passing those worthy of the title. But today is a different day.

We’re not alone. I have just received word from our informants that this year, several people have infiltrated the Academy disguised as applicants. And these people… are not Human. We suspect they are, in fact, Homunculi.

Everyone looks around wildly, murmuring to each other. Some people even shout out things like, “That’s impossible!” or “Homunculi don’t even exist!

We do not know what they are planning to do, but we are sure it is nothing good. Therefore, we have made a decision. In order to capture the Homunculi, no one shall be allowed to leave the Academy. You will all be provided sleeping quarters and food under the condition that you do not leave until it is all over. Those Alchemists who are skilled enough to ferret out the imposters will, from this day forth, be known as State Alchemists!

A small boy about 13 years old steps forward. His specs are almost bigger than his head, and he has a bad case of acne. He looks around at his quarters for the near future in frank bemusement.

Homunculi?! Pah, mere superstitions. I'm expected to stay in this damp hole of a room while we route out these evil beings that don't even exist? I'd laugh if it wasn't so sad. My name is Strum by the way...Strum la Banjo....what...why are you laughing at me?

"Alas! for faire Fortune hath turned her wheele and 'tis us! The true seekers of immortalilty and wealth or art being drenched with Fortune's dross and maladies.
Mayhap the Gods themselves doth also look upon us with visage dour for dipping our delicate and unsure hands into the powers of the Gods themselves. Fore doth not Minerva beqeath knowledge and wealth; and Dionysus endow his favourites with the supremest ability of all? That which is the truest talent of all.- To transmute the lesser metals into that richest of all:-gold!
Methinketh that this uncouth homunculi do be led by by EvilElitest for does he not proclaim by his own name that he be evil? And is't not said that Honuculii art false and evil in all their make-up?"

proclaimed Curly Wobbledagger as she struck a dramatic pose and spake her thoughts out to the gathered Alchemists. Finisheing her monologue she gathers up her quill and parchment and proceeded to make her way to the library in search of knowledge and true literature.

From the back of the room a derisve sound can be heard. "Pha, Homunculi. No creature made by unnatural means can pose any serious threat to the combined might of the Alchemists. What we can do without however, is the prescence of weaklings, like the self proclaimed Fleeing Coward!

Artemis leans against a pillar of the Academy building, surveying her fellow applicants and trying to make sense of it all. So few passed, the entry requirements must have been particularly strict this year. But with such careful standards, how could imposters have slipped in? Homunculi or not, I need to keep an eye out. These fakes are bad news for the State, that much is certain. I cannot let them pass. Of course, passing myself wouldn't be a bad idea. She glances at Elanya and replies. "If they were smart enough to get through the examination process, they do pose a serious threat. Throwing around accusations and alienating possible allies is a dangerous tactic when we have so little information." The dark haired woman warns.

Just after the speech about homunculi, a small boy with black clothes and lighty designs in blue, red and yellow comes walking...
that's right, an otaku..
or that's what people think

he suddenly feels a chill coming down his spine, and turning around, he sees Freshmeat talking.
his eyes widen and after looking more and more at the guy with "sombrero", and after while he suddenly crashes to the floor, in a sudden attack of madness, for he recognises that this guy could be a homunculi...

A masked alchemist steps out of the shadows, thinking. Her mask shifts to a plain white face, devoid of emotion, before shifting once again to a red, fiery, angry mask.

How dare these pathetic Homunculi try and stop me on my way to Alchemist fame and glory?!

She turns to thecrimsonmage

You there. What do you know of Homunculi?

From a shadowy corner, a lonely student, about 16 years old, wearing common clothes and letting his green hair breath, silently observes the other applicants, already taking notes and studying the behaviors.

He pays close attention to the guy with the big hat, Freshmeat, thinking:

"What the hell's up with that guy's way of speaking?... freakin' weirdo..."

A man looking to be in his early twenties looks around. I dislike making accusations with such little evidence, but it seems to me that those who seek to discount the threat posed by creatures such as Homunculi would most likely be those with the most interest in seeing them go about their business unhindered. Forgive me, madam... I point at Elanya.

Err... can you all give me a break here?
I've been killed in Hogwarts Havoc, Zombies, Werewolf Classic, Mafia and Rockstar already... and I'm not exactly up to add a sixth one to that list.

I think it's better to focus on people whom we suspect will be autolynched anyway. That way, we can cut our losses somewhat until we can actually make a strong case against someone.

I don't have any evidence as of now to who may be these Homunculi. So I'll wait around.
