Final Fantasy Advent Children: The Return of Sephiroth (Game Underway)
Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children: The Return of Sephiroth
Two years ago, the world was near death. Shinra Corporation harnessed the very essence of the world, the Life Stream, to power its energy stations and push its plans for ultimate domination. Then Jenova came, a calamity from a far away world, hurtling to earth on the remnant of a dead planet. Shinra saw an opportunity in this cosmic power, taking control of Jenova for their own means.
Shinra took Jenova to Nibelheim, where they perfected a process of infusing cloned humans with a portion of Jenova’s energy, creating super-humans of massive strength. These humans formed SOLDIER, the military wing of Shinra, with a man called Sephiroth undoubtedly the best among them. But soon Sephiroth would become the bane of Shinra, and a bigger threat to the world itself. Sephiroth found out how he was created, that he and his comrades were nothing more than cloned freaks created by Jenova. He swore to destroy Shinra for their actions, and soon came to hate the world, eventually he sought Jenova’s power for his own to bring an end to the planet itself.
Sephiroth was unsuccessful, due to the efforts of a rebel group called Avalanche and their allies, Cloud Strife at their head. Sephiroth disappeared, and Jenova was nearly destroyed, only her head remaining whole. The planet survived, and the people of the world set about rebuilding their shattered cities and broken lives.
Now, two years later, the city of Midgar has been rebuilt amongst the ruins of the last, as have many other places wrecked during Sephiroths rampage. Avalanche has split to pursue their own lives, the Shinra Corporation is no longer powerful, and Cloud Strife has become lost within himself after the death of Aerith at Sephiroths hands. But things are far from well in Midgar. Monsters not seen in the areas for centuries beat at the towns defences, baying for the blood of innocents. A disfiguring disease called GeoStigma has taken hold of many people in the city; it saps them of energy and gives them thoughts that aren’t their own. But that is by no means the worst of it.
Kadaj, Yazoo and Loz have suddenly become known in and around Midgar, killing innocents and combing the ruins of the old city. They’re searching for something, and yesterday it became clear what. Hijacking the giant view screen in the centre of Midgar, the three addressed the whole city.
”People of Midgar…you fall ill from the Stigma, you grow weak from its curse. Do you know why? Jenova. Mother. Her cold dead soul is up there in the Life Stream, poisoning its energy and attacking your very souls. Do you know what it will take to stop her?”
”Give us back Mother’s head!”
”Don’t cry Loz. Yes, we need Mother’s head, without it we can never be complete! He won’t be able to return.”
”Mother will be upset!”
”Yes Yazoo. Rufus Shinra, we know you have Mother. Give her to us, then her Darkangel Sephiroth will be able to return through us, and the world will bathe in the flames of his retribution. Your suffering will be over, and we will ride this dead planet across the stars to new worlds, laying waste to everything…it's Jenova’s will!”
So, the stakes have been set. If Kadaj finds Rufus Shinra, Sephiroth will return and lay waste to the planet once more. But only Reno & Rude know where Rufus Shinra is hiding, and they alone are no match for Kadaj and his gang. The peril has bought Avalanche back together again, and they too search for Rufus Shinra, hoping to stop Jenova’s head from falling into Kadaj’s hands. Cloud Strife stalks the streets of ruined Midgar, unsure of what to do. Shinra used to be mortal enemies of the planet, can Rufus Shinra be trusted to do what’s right for the world? Cloud also harbours concerns for himself. He is afflicted by the GeoStigma, it’s hard to tell how long he has left. And finally, Aerith, killed by Sephiroth two years ago, remains in Midgar, exerting her will through the Life Stream to protect her old comrades.
The stage is set, time for the battle for Midgar to begin in earnest!
Narrators – Banjo1985 & Pwenet
The Roles
Avalanche (Villager) Roles
Spoiler
Cloud Strife – You are Cloud, the troubled soul charged with taking Sephieroth down and protecting the rest of Avalanche, all the time fighting the GeoStigma disease that attacks your body.. Your point counts as double in nominations. You scan as an Avalanche member. You can kill four types of random encounters if nominated to face them.
Aerith Gainsborough (Baner) – Despite having been killed by Sephiroth 2 years ago, you can still affect events in Midgar through manipulating the Life Stream. Your power granted to you by the Ancients allows you to protect someone overnight, preventing them from being killed. You scan as an Avalanche member. You can kill two types of random encounters if nominated to face them.
Tifa Lockhart (Seer) – You are Tifa, an astute judge of character and able Avalanche member. Your power lets you scan one person each evening to discern their role by PM’ing the narrators. The person you scan will come up as either Avalanche Member, Yuffie, Cait Sith, Remnant of Jenova, Reno/Rude, Rufus Shinra or Avalanche Command. You scan as an Avalanche member. You can kill two types of random encounters if nominated to face them.
Reno & Rude (The Lovers) – You are two former members of the Turks, who have stuck together despite all the changes that have happened in Midgar. You are also still loyal to Rufus Shinra. Your are the only characters to know who Rufus Shinra is, and must protect him at all costs. If one of you is nominated to take on a random encounter, you can kill anything off either of your lists. If one of you is killed during the night, the other will counterattack, killing a Child of Mako but dying themselves in the process. You scan as Reno or Rude. Reno and Rude can each kill two types of random encounters if nominated to face them.
Rufus Shinra – You are the former head of Shinra Industries, and you have Jenova’s head in your possession. The Remnants of Jenova want it, and will do anything to find you. You begin the game knowing who Reno & Rude are, and they know you. If you are killed before Kadaj is, Sephiroth will return. If you are nominated to face a random encounter, and Reno or Rude can kill it, they will be secretly sent out in your place. On your own you cannot kill any type of encounter.
Avalanche Command (Barret, Vincent, Red XIII, Cid)(Masons) – You are a veteran Avalanche member from the events of the original FF7. While you have carried on with your own lives, you have joined together again to try and prevent the return of Sephiroth. You know who the other Avalanche Command are and which random encounters they can kill. You scan as Avalanche Command. Each of you can kill 3 of the 8 types of random encounters if nominated to face them.
Cait Sith (Fool) – You are a well meaning but bumbling Avalanche Member. You will be told you are Tifa Lockhart, but you’re scanning ability will result in a random role being PM’d to you. If you scan Tifa Lockhart she will scan as Cait Sith, and vice versa. You can kill two types of random encounters if nominated to face them.
Avalanche Members (Villagers) – You are an enthusiastic but inexperienced member of Avalanche. You try to survive while routing out the Remnants of Jenova. You scan as an Avalanche Member. Each of you can kill 2 of the 8 types of random encounters if nominated to face them.
Remnants of Jenova (Werewolf) Roles
Spoiler
Kadaj/Sephiroth (Alpha) – You begin the game as Kadaj, a powerful Remnant of Jenova, you are searching for Rufus Shinra to take Jenova’s head in order to return her to her former glory. Little do you know that mother will chose Sephiroth over you. You can recruit up to two people in the game, by bathing them in the stream at the Forgotten City, PM the narrators and we will make contact with your target. If they agree, they will join you as a Remnant of Jenova. Your point counts double in nominations. You scan as an Avalanche Member.
You can kill four types of random encounters if nominated to face them.
But if Rufus Shinra is killed before you are, you gain control of Jenova’s head and become Sephiroth. The Remnants of Jenova can then make two kills per night, and you can kill 6 types of random encounter. However, you now scan as a Remnant of Jenova, making you a little easier to identify.
Yazoo (Devil) – You are Yazoo, Remnant of Jenova and diviner of intent. You have the same abilities as Tifa Lockhart, except that you scan at night, and you scan as a Remnant of Jenova. You can kill three types of random encounters if nominated to face them. You start off in contact with the other Remnants of Jenova at the beginning of the game.
Loz (Werewolf) – You are Loz, a Remnant of Jenova with amazing physical power, but not a lot of sense. You start the game in contact with Yazoo and Kadaj. You scan as a Remnant of Jenova. You can kill four types of random encounters if nominated to face them.
Remnants of Jenova (Recruits) – You are those bathed in the stream in the Forgotten city, recruited by the Remnants of Jenova to join their ranks. You retain your own abilities, but now scan as Remnants of Jenova. A maximum of two people can be recruited during the game.
Special Role – Yuffie
Spoiler
Yuffie Kisaragi (Thief) - Yuffie is an opportunistic thief, who aligns herself to whoever has the best offer. Yuffie may make a steal attempt once per round, targeting an encounter during the day, or another player during the night. Targeting an encounter, she can try and steal an item from it at a 25% success rate, but doesn’t affect the combat in any other way. Targeting a player, she can try and steal an item if they have one, at a 50% success rate. However, you can only have one item at any time, if you steal a second, you must give one of them to another player or choose to discard it. Giving items should be done through PM to the narrators. Yuffie can choose to remain on her own, or try and align herself with either the Remnants of Jenova, or any of the villager groups. Yuffie could be a powerful ally, but she may be targeted early to stop her power falling into opposition hands. You can kill two types of random encounters, and you scan as Yuffie.
Special Rules
The game follows the normal WW rules, which can be found here, except for the following changes:
Encounters (pointing)
Spoiler
- At the beginning of each day at least one random encounter will attack the city of Midgar. The encounter will be decided randomly from the following list:
- Rather than voting to lynch someone, people point during the day to nominate someone to go outside the city and face the encounter. If they can kill that type of encounter then they survive and stay in the game, if not they die and their role is made public knowledge.
- A player that survives an encounter may receive an item from the defeated foe (a set % chance). Details about items and their use can be found below.
- On days where there are two or more random encounters, people must point at two or more people.
Items
Spoiler
Gaining Items
Items are gained by defeating random encounters, at a set probability. Items are ranked by their rarity, which is based on their power. Yuffie can also steal items from other players or encounters without facing them in combat.
Item Holding & Transfers
Each player may only have one item at any time. If they gain a second they must either immediately use an item, discard an item, or transfer one to another player. Items can be transferred at any time through a PM to the narrators. When transferring items, make it clear whether you want to make yourself known to the recipient. If not, the item will be transferred anonymously.

Victory Conditions
Spoiler
Avalanche win when there are no Remnants of Jenova left. They win an absolute victory if they do this without Sephiroth entering the game.
Remnants of Jenova win when there are as many of them remaining as there are Avalanche Members (Yuffie is not included in this calculation). They win an absolute victory if Kadaj, Yazoo & Loz are all still alive when the game ends.
Yuffie wins by surviving until the end of the game, no matter what side she allies herself with.
Autolynches
If you don't point for two day periods, you will be sent out to face the encounter that day, along with those voted to go out. You will be the one to die if no-one can kill the encounter, however, if you can defeat it you will survive, but you won't get any items for your troubles. This is a one-shot save, after that you will be autolynched.
Pointing at Yourself
Unlike any other WW game, here pointing at yourself is a viable strategy. If you know you can kill something threatening the town you can volunteer to take it on, it might gain peoples trust. On the other hand, you could also find yourself in over your head...either way don't shy away at pointing at yourselves!
So those are the special rules for this game. Anyone unfamiliar with the basics of WW games should read the rules in the link just after the roles section above.
Day 13 is now underway.

Re: Final Fantasy Advent Children: The Return of Sephiroth (Recruiting)
This is a statement implying that the member of the forum known as Curly, CKG or CurlyKitGirl similarly woould be interested in joining this advantageous venture.
Re: Final Fantasy Advent Children: The Return of Sephiroth (Recruiting)
I'm in but since I never played Final Fantasy I will abstain from roleplay! Just point and be done with it (or maybe as lumberjack, or piano man, must think about this)

Re: Final Fantasy Advent Children: The Return of Sephiroth (Recruiting)
It doesn't really matter that you've never played the game, all the story you need will be in the updates etc. Play whoever you want to! I kind of like the idea of an urban lumberjack...he could cut down lamposts!
Re: Final Fantasy Advent Children: The Return of Sephiroth (Recruiting)
I'm In, of course!

We did think about that point, and we have put things in the rules to balance it back out again, unfortunately I can't say how because it would damage the wolves chances, but if we get at least 25 players it should be balanced.
I fought The Mysterious Circle of Shadowy Chairs in Discworld I (Dei in Machina) till the end, won the game and survived and all I got is this lousy signature line.
Re: Final Fantasy Advent Children: The Return of Sephiroth (Recruiting)
Here I am, Banjo...
Also, Special Rules, Random Encounters: Can you explain what you mean by "more than one"? So, you could have a A Bomb and a Tonberry at your doorstep? What if you can defeat the bomb, but not the Tonberry?

Basically, when there are two encounters, players vote for two people to face them, designating which person should face which. That way you can test out players abilities etc.
